Hardware :: Switching Acer Aspire One Ssd To 1.8" Hdd - Cables Are Different Sizes ?
Jul 24, 2010
I have a broken ssd in my acer aspire one. I bought a Toshiba MK3006GAL 30 GB 1.8" iPod laptop HDD, and planned to make a switch. however, the zif or tif cables are different sizes. the ssd has a way smalled cable it looks like. I know nothing about switching these...i thought i could just plug it in and be ready to go. I also ordered a ZIF/LIF Ribbon Cable FFC for Toshiba 1.8"HDD Drive 56mm, i dont have it yet.
i tried to install ubuntu 9.10 in my acer aspire lap. i got the ubuntu CD by parcel.i was able to select the language, then second option -install ubuntu also went rite, after that nothing is happening. how can i correct it?
now the thing is im bit of a dumb girl when it comes to computers. Apparently I need to install some Java software just to get my pictures on my facebook. I have tried following the instructions at Java but i am a total newbie lol
I was hoping some of the boys here could help me , I did try look at some other threads but I just get even more confused. Please dont be mad if this is a dumb question coz some of us are not as smart as you guys here. I am also looking forward to making new friends here if you on facebook xx xx lol
i bought an Acer aspire one through an official acer website and i got it for cheaper than a XP one, i got it with Linux on it. As i am someone that looks for a great deal. i took it, I then realized that Linux is pretty hard to operate.can i replace linux with window?
I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.
I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.
I recently installed openSuSE 11.2 on an Acer Aspire One, but when the installer try to start the new kernel with kexec it hang up, and if I reboot the system it hang up always, also says that the Acer BIOS is unknown.
in compliance with bonekracker's advice, i have reposted my SOS. i have the result of the outputs of the commands for ifconfig, iwconfig, and etc i have uploaded it in the file output.doc. i hope this would be helpful in debugging my problem.but before that, i do notice that if i click on the icon for the Network Manager, the Wireless networks is set to 'wireless disabled'. maybe if i can make it turn on, my wireless problem will be solved.. its just that i even if i move the switch for the wifi, it still wouldn't turn on.
The problem now is that I cant get online. I have an Acer Aspire 5720. My network card is called Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b / g WLAN. What do I do? I've googled around and found various forum posts where I'm told that I must write various things in Terminal, which have not yet worked. I have also visited this site, where this is the first step: Open System → Administration → Networking. But the problem is that I can not find the "Networking" under "Administration". I have no experience with Linux what so ever, Ninja-edit: I tried reading through this, but I fell off at Make the .ko file
For long I've had problems with a slow Windows Xp-laptop, so today I decided to install Ubuntu on it.The problem now is that I cant get online. I have an Acer Aspire 5720. I tried to install the beta version of maverick with no luck. I used usb creator to put maverick on a memory stick. When I went into live mode everything worked perfectly so I thought why not install it. I then tried to do this but after filling out all the required info it wouldn't install. I clicked the install button and the installer froze up. I currently have ubuntu netbook remix (9.04) installed on it in desktop mode. I also, awhile ago, try installing lucid (both desktop and netbook remixes) and had a similar problem with them. They both stalled installing at the 15% mark. Now with this problem with maverick I am wondering why this could be happening. I have used different memory sticks so I have ruled that out as a problem. They all have worked flawlessly and speedily in live mode.
I have just installed Meerkat on an Acer Aspire laptop, it can see various wireless networks but for some reason can't connect to them. However when I turn my HTC Desire into a hotspot it connects to that fine. Why can it connect to my phone yet not any routers?
My Acer AspireOne netbook has a native resolution of 1024x600. Most times I start up, the image is 800x480 against the left edge, black bar on the right side, and a repeated image at the bottom. (I can attach a picture if needed.)I've been seeing this problem since Ubuntu 9.10, but it's more common recently with 10.10. If I keep shutting down and powering back on, eventually it will come up in 1024x600 as I desire. If that happens, then I avoid shutting down and only use Suspend instead. However, anytime I need to reboot (for updates, etc.) the 800x480 comes back.
The Acer logo / BIOS splash screen is also in 800x480, but I only see it switch back to 1024x600 after Ubuntu loads and is shut down. (Repeatedly clicking on/off/on/off never results in the resolution changing to 1024x600.) So, I'm still suspicious that Ubuntu is causing this (no hardware). WinXP used to be on this machine, and the problem was never seen.I don't think any proprietary drivers are needed (but I am still a Ubuntu noob.) When the problem is occurring, I see this result for xrandr:
Code: swope@netbook:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 800 x 480, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)[code]....
I haven't been able to find xorg.conf ... but I've read that recent versions of Ubuntu create the content dynamically. Not sure what other details I should be including, at the risk of making this post too long.
I have an Acer Aspire One with Linux operating system.Using Easy Peasy. No optical drive of course, but have bought an external one.The AA One recognises it and I want it primarily to install a program which is on CD. Familiar with Windows but a novice with Linux.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.4 as a dual boot on my Acer Aspire 0ne 533. I have to keep the Windows partition for work, or I'd have just installed Ubuntu. I'm used to plugging in an ethernet cable for the first round of updates until I get the WiFi working, but it just isn't working for me this time. I have a horrid feeling that Windows has a way of hogging the Ethernet card.
I had a look in the forums, and could not find anything referring to this specifically, which is unusual because as far as I can tell the AA1 is a popular machine and lots of people dual boot it. Perhaps it is an easy fix that's been buried in the archives?
I've got an Acer Aspire AM3920 (Intel Core i5) Desktop PC. I want to upgrade my Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal, but it just isn't working. I've tried to upgrade two times, both resulting in a crash while installing. When I try to install it from a Live CD, I'm getting a black screen and when I press a key in the purple screen of the Live CD and select nomodeset, it doesn't work either. So my question is: Is it possible to install/run Ubuntu 11.04 on this PC?
A friend here in Mexico recently bought an AOA150 Acer Aspire netbook with Linpus Lite. It seems to be an excellent machine, except it has the dreaded microphone problem, which seems to be fixable, a lot of solutions on Google. So, I don't want to get into that now. I happen to have a Mitzu "stereo condensor microphone" can't remember where I got it, still in the package. It warns the computer must have a sound card input for it. So, how do I find out if it does? Can a microphone hurt the computer?
I have a problem with certain web sites, mainly BBC when the page just disappears and it just reverts to my desktop.I tried installing more up to date version of Firefox but it keeps on happening- mainly it seems when BBC site has fancy graphics.
I have an aa1 with the original set up but fire fox is to old for some sites how can I instal a new vertion Sorry, its is an acer aspire 1 with linpus, I think, it comes pre installed with fire fox but an old version.
my aspire one netbook which uses linux will not start. when i press the power button, it starts booting then will just give me a blank screen. my problem is that i dont know my system user password so can go into setup.
I have successfully created a dual boot system on my Aspire One net book computer with Windows XP and Ubuntu for net books. When I use the software installer the program icon shows up but when I click on the icon nothing happens. All of the software that was installed when I installed Ubuntu works fine. The software in question is a flight simulator named Saber.
I have installed the 13.1 usbboot.img to a usb stick and tried to boot up an acer aspire one aod751 but it hangs when it come to the onboard webcam.I am guessing that there is no driver for this webcam. There is no way to disable the usb cam in the bios setup. Is there a command that can be given at boot so that there is no attempt to load the driver for this webcam?
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an acer aspire 5715Z and now I have overheating problems. Originally Vista was installed on the laptop and no overheating problem was observed. I think fans are not working now, cause I never hear them.
I recently installed Ubunto 10.10 (the netbook version) onto my Acer Aspire One Netbook. The OS it came with was a very old Red Hat, so I got rid of it. I am a complete Linux newbie, and not having the best experiences so far. Basically, the netbook is completely clean with Ubuntu just installed. It's not got any files on it or any extra software. But it runs REALLY slow.
Boots up pretty quickly, but it takes ages to do anything. It'll either just run ridiculously slowly, or it will run okay for 10 seconds and then not do ANYTHING for the next 10. I have never been able to play an MP3 track without the whole thing freezing, let alone a video. Why is it so bad? The machine's not that old (maybe a year and a half) and the OS is brand new. There's no files or added software on it. What's the problem? Is there anything I can do? It's so frustrating! And it's the the only computer I've got at the moment.
I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.
/var/log/messages says this:usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf2, idProduct=6250 usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=4 usb 1-5: Product: UB6250 usb 1-5: Manufacturer: ENE FlashBut no device is created and nothing can be mounted.
Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?
When rebooting a fresh Fedora 15 install or even after the end stage of the actual installation itself, my Acer Aspire One (AOA110) with 16GB SSD and 3309 BIOS just stalls.
I have tried installing to the SSD and also to an external USB connected HDD. In all cases the actual reboot process stalls when shutting down and I have to power cycle the netbook to reboot it. The boot process works perfectly and F15 starts up fine.
If I use a "poweroff" command instead of a "reboot" command, the netbook powers off correctly. It's just the reboot that doesn't work. All updates have been applied to F15.
I should mention that it works correctly under F14...
Had the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.
Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.
Maybe they made a change without changing the model number? I have an Acer aspire 5517 bought last Friday, and with Ubuntu 9.10 the wired network came up fine, I upgraded with latest fixes today, but it stil doesn't recognise the wireless interface at all, not "network connections" window, not "ifconfig -a".
