Software :: Running Programs On Acer Aspire One ?

Aug 17, 2010

I have successfully created a dual boot system on my Aspire One net book computer with Windows XP and Ubuntu for net books. When I use the software installer the program icon shows up but when I click on the icon nothing happens. All of the software that was installed when I installed Ubuntu works fine. The software in question is a flight simulator named Saber.

General :: Using Wine / Acer Aspire One Linpus Lite - Add / Remove Programs?

Jan 4, 2010

I'm trying to use iTunes and poker sites on my acer aspire one with linux linpus lite. I've followed previous threads and learned how to add/remove programs and I've downloaded wine. My wine programs show up under 'other' and I have: wine configuration; wine file; wine boot; wine software ininstaller and winhelp (not sure if the last is wine or not) Just can't navigate my way through any of these to find how to actually RUN wine. Also, if you think this is not the best way to fully use poker websites (I'm not happy with the iphone style no download play) or iTunes.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ralink Usb 3070 On Acer Aspire One Running 10.04?

Jul 22, 2010

I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5, which is running (Desktop Version) 10.04. I've been happily using the built in wifi adapter, but now I've got a new wireless hub that supports 802.11n and I want to exploit the higher connection speed. I've bought a wireless usb that has no external markings, however, using 'lsusb' I've managed to establish it contains ralink 3070. Any ideas how I get this to work? When I plug in the wireless dongle from another laptop I get two connections available for use in network manager, but when I plug this one in nothing seems to happen.

Fedora :: Install 12 On An Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 With 1 GB Of Memory?

Jan 9, 2010

I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.

I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.

When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.

Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.

I've googled around and found various forum posts where I'm told that I must write various things in Terminal, which have not yet worked. I have also visited this site, where this is the first step: Open System → Administration → Networking. But the problem is that I can not find the "Networking" under "Administration". I have no experience with Linux what so ever, Ninja-edit: I tried reading through this, but I fell off at Make the .ko file

Ubuntu :: Maverick Installer On Acer Aspire One

Sep 10, 2010

I tried to install the beta version of maverick with no luck. I used usb creator to put maverick on a memory stick. When I went into live mode everything worked perfectly so I thought why not install it. I then tried to do this but after filling out all the required info it wouldn't install. I clicked the install button and the installer froze up. I currently have ubuntu netbook remix (9.04) installed on it in desktop mode. I also, awhile ago, try installing lucid (both desktop and netbook remixes) and had a similar problem with them. They both stalled installing at the 15% mark. Now with this problem with maverick I am wondering why this could be happening. I have used different memory sticks so I have ruled that out as a problem. They all have worked flawlessly and speedily in live mode.

Ubuntu :: Acer Aspire One Wrong Resolution?

Jan 14, 2011

My Acer AspireOne netbook has a native resolution of 1024x600. Most times I start up, the image is 800x480 against the left edge, black bar on the right side, and a repeated image at the bottom. (I can attach a picture if needed.)I've been seeing this problem since Ubuntu 9.10, but it's more common recently with 10.10. If I keep shutting down and powering back on, eventually it will come up in 1024x600 as I desire. If that happens, then I avoid shutting down and only use Suspend instead. However, anytime I need to reboot (for updates, etc.) the 800x480 comes back.

The Acer logo / BIOS splash screen is also in 800x480, but I only see it switch back to 1024x600 after Ubuntu loads and is shut down. (Repeatedly clicking on/off/on/off never results in the resolution changing to 1024x600.) So, I'm still suspicious that Ubuntu is causing this (no hardware). WinXP used to be on this machine, and the problem was never seen.I don't think any proprietary drivers are needed (but I am still a Ubuntu noob.) When the problem is occurring, I see this result for xrandr:

Code:
swope@netbook:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 800 x 480, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)[code]....

I haven't been able to find xorg.conf ... but I've read that recent versions of Ubuntu create the content dynamically. Not sure what other details I should be including, at the risk of making this post too long.

Ubuntu Networking :: Acer Aspire 1 533-13Dww LAN?

May 16, 2011

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.4 as a dual boot on my Acer Aspire 0ne 533. I have to keep the Windows partition for work, or I'd have just installed Ubuntu. I'm used to plugging in an ethernet cable for the first round of updates until I get the WiFi working, but it just isn't working for me this time. I have a horrid feeling that Windows has a way of hogging the Ethernet card.

I had a look in the forums, and could not find anything referring to this specifically, which is unusual because as far as I can tell the AA1 is a popular machine and lots of people dual boot it. Perhaps it is an easy fix that's been buried in the archives?

Ubuntu :: 10.10 On Acer Aspire One - Really Slow And Freezing

Dec 9, 2010

I recently installed Ubunto 10.10 (the netbook version) onto my Acer Aspire One Netbook. The OS it came with was a very old Red Hat, so I got rid of it. I am a complete Linux newbie, and not having the best experiences so far. Basically, the netbook is completely clean with Ubuntu just installed. It's not got any files on it or any extra software. But it runs REALLY slow.

Boots up pretty quickly, but it takes ages to do anything. It'll either just run ridiculously slowly, or it will run okay for 10 seconds and then not do ANYTHING for the next 10. I have never been able to play an MP3 track without the whole thing freezing, let alone a video. Why is it so bad? The machine's not that old (maybe a year and a half) and the OS is brand new. There's no files or added software on it. What's the problem? Is there anything I can do? It's so frustrating! And it's the the only computer I've got at the moment.

Debian Hardware :: Internal SD Reader On Acer Aspire One?

Jun 7, 2011

I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.

/var/log/messages says this:usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf2, idProduct=6250
usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=4
usb 1-5: Product: UB6250
usb 1-5: Manufacturer: ENE FlashBut no device is created and nothing can be mounted.

Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?

Fedora :: Acer Aspire One (AOA110) F15 Reboot Stalls

May 30, 2011

When rebooting a fresh Fedora 15 install or even after the end stage of the actual installation itself, my Acer Aspire One (AOA110) with 16GB SSD and 3309 BIOS just stalls.

I have tried installing to the SSD and also to an external USB connected HDD.
In all cases the actual reboot process stalls when shutting down and I have to power cycle the netbook to reboot it. The boot process works perfectly and F15 starts up fine.

If I use a "poweroff" command instead of a "reboot" command, the netbook powers off correctly. It's just the reboot that doesn't work. All updates have been applied to F15.

I should mention that it works correctly under F14...

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Get X To Start On Acer Aspire 5100

Dec 21, 2009

Had the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.

Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.
