I have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.
Code: [weaz ~]$ lspci | grep Audio

I used this option( int resize=16384; setsockopt((fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUF, &resize, sizeof(int)) ) to try to change my rcv socket buffer size. The option succeeded but the buffer size stayed at 4096. Can I actually change the buffer size with this option or is it hard coded into the kernel

I can connect to my Server from Machine1 via ssh locally (192.168.1.100) However, I failed to do so when connect from outside (210.xxxxxx) I've tried to turn off the Firewall(s) (in linux and router). But no good. My Server is in DMZ, I don't know if any related issue created from it.

I tried to install lshw to be able to list me hardware. lshw is not in synaptic. I found this page [URL] .... and from there went to [URL] .... where I read:
You should be able to use any of the listed mirrors by adding a line to your /etc/apt/sources.list like this:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian wheezy main
Replacing ftp.de.debian.org/debian with the mirror in question.

[URL]VMware Workstation 7.0.1 Release Notes has a list of supported OS:[URL]According to that, RHEL 5.4 is listed as supported for both host andguest but CentOS 5.4 is only for guest. This is quite strange and, ifit is true, that could be a serious issue.I succeed to install vmware workstaion 7.1 on centos 5.5, but have run-time error:
[root@ ~]# /etc/init.d/vmware start
Starting VMware services:
VMware USB Arbitrator [ OK ]

I have a big bash script ,its goal is to download movie one by one . But I often get into a problem: if this script is executed in cron,it often does not completely download the movie.I often find the movies it downloaded are several KB while the movie is actually 20MB.So I think it is because it did not wait for finishing one task ,and jump to download another. So I want to know ,is there a way to force the bash script to wait until one movie downloaded completely and then start to download another movie ?

Back in the days of slow machines, displaying the package description during an install provided for some reading to break up the boredom (if one was inspired to sit there and watch it do the install). Now days, the descriptions just fly by, several a second most of the time (unless doing things manually). Do we really need this anymore? It's unreadable.
I'd rather see a list of packages being installed scroll by, one package name per line (with size info). Even that might get hard to read during the buzz of small packages being installed causing rapid scrolls.

What the right place to report errors in package descriptions ? There are more than two dozens categories mentioned on the openSUSE "reporting a bug" web page but none of them seem to fit. The packager of the concerned rpm is bugs.opensuse.org, no email printed out when launching rpm -qpi <package name>.

I have a personal webserver and webpage that makes my mp3 collection available to me on the network. It's more of a learning experience than anything else. Anyway there are two issues that I have found some information on, but I haven't been able to make sense of what I've found.
1. I would like directories to appear first and individual files to appear afterwards.
2. I would like for the name column width to match the longest name appearing in that column.
I am attaching a screenshot of the page for clarification.

Added the following line to sources.list:
deb [URL] squeeze main non-free
After that I did an update and upgrade.
The following packages were kept back : ffmpeg libavcodec52 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libcairo2 libpostproc51 libswscale0 mplayer ( libcairo2 is on hold ).
To overcome this I did: apt-get install mplayer
The following extra packages will be installed:
liba52-0.7.4 libartsc0 libbs2b0 libdirac-decoder0 libfaac0 libggi2 libggiwmh0 libgii1
libmp3lame0 libopencore-amrnb0 libopencore-amrwb0 libvdpau1 libx264-104 libxvidcore4
It ends like: Unpacking replacement mplayer ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/mplayer_2%3a1.0~rc3++svn20100804-0.0_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/pixmaps/mplayer.xpm', which is also in package mplayer-gui 2:1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1

/var/cache/apt/archives/mplayer_2%3a1.0~rc3++svn20100804-0.0_amd64.deb

Next thing I tried : apt-get dist-upgrade:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
libavfilter0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libavcore0 libavfilter1 libavutil50 libva1
The following packages have been kept back:
libcairo2
The following packages will be upgraded:

How can I get Zypper to show the full description of packages rather than a truncated summary? When I use zypper to list installed packages or search for packages from the command line I would like to see the full detailed description of the packages that are returned in the results. Currently zypper only shows me a truncated summary description.
