I did check KMIX and the default sound is the X-FI. I'm not using any special ATI drivers, just whatever Kubuntu decided to choose for me at install/boot.
After I upgrade to 10.10 my sound went missing. No device on the hardware. Ive been working with this for almost 5 hours already to be exact. Tried all the links and tried all the solutions all is not working. Im pretty sure reinstalling the whole ubuntu will work but i find it very stupid to install the whole system just for a sound issue.I hate windows as much as ubuntu but it seem like its turning its way around

since I'm new to the the forum and this is my first post I'd like to discuss a quite weird issue. Specifically, after upgrading my Debian system to Squeeze a few days ago, sound is completely lost. This means that I cannot hear any sound from anywhere (mp3, streming videos or anything else) except the system bell . I've done a research on the Internet, looking in other forums and discussions but still, nothing works for me. To begin with, I'm running Squeeze in an HP laptop with HDA Intel soundcard and chipset ALC268. When I'm running aplay -l I get this message:

flash sound problems after upgrading to 10.04 i found i had problems with flash and sound. this was caused by having two versions of flash plugin installed in firefox one of which wasn't appearing in package manager to check how many versions are installed in firefox address bar type about:plugins if there are more than one entry for flash player enter the following into a terminal rm ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so more details and other possible fixes can be found here: [URL]
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10 and there's now a strange high-pitched crackling distortion sound whenever I play any kind of sound with any program, which seems to stop and start at random. My sound card is an SiS SI7012, and the sound was working perfectly before I upgraded.I'm not sure whether this is a problem with Pulseaudio or ALSA or what. I tried removing all of the Pulseaudio packages, but that didn't help, and I also tried doing 'remove completely' on all of the Pulseaudio and ALSA packages and then reinstalling, but that didn't work either

I upgraded my system from Wheezy to Jessie and now the audio is tinny. It sounds like a lot of the bass is being chopped off. This happens in YouTube's HTML5 video player, VLC and whatever player it is that Thunar launches for avi files.I'm using Xfce as my desktop, if that matters.I looked around for an equalizer app for pulseaudio but was surprised to find that the there isn't one, or at least not one which is still maintained.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI had a broken URL in my /etc/apt/sources.list file, apparently because the debian-multimedia.org site had some kind of server issue and they had to rebuild the site from the ground up. They must have changed their directory structure, because I began getting 404 Errors when upgrading packages. I eventually fixed the URL last week after it had been broken for three months, then I upgraded and rebooted. After that, sound stopped working, even system sounds. My speakers work, because I plugged them into another machine and they worked. I eventually discovered that the master volume was set to "mute", and so was the master volume in the alsamixer. However, even after changing it to 100% for both, sound still doesn't work. I even made sure to issue a "alsactl -store" command toeep the settings there after a reboot. I removed and reinstalled all the alsa and pulse audio packages, made sure that the emu10k1 driver was installed for my Soundblaster Audigy card, and made sure everything was unmuted. I have also tried a million other things that I've found on Google, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used alsa driver/utils/lib 1.0.23 from alsa-project.org So it fixed it...but now I don't have sound in Flash (youtybe videos, etc.). System sound works perfectly (ev en Skype is working) I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64bit and Google Chrome browser. flash -> flashplugin-nonfree
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my Debian jessie system (for the first time in a few months). It broke my video driver (fortunately a dpkg-reconfigure fixed that) and my wireless driver (forget how I fixed that...), and my sound. ALSA still thinks I have an output device, I've set volumes all the way up in alsamixer.
In vlc and firefox, I can't hear anything using the default audio out (which I think is pulseaudio), nor can I hear anything if I ask them to use ALSA output directly. I've tried rebooting, killing/manually starting pulseaudio, etc to no avail.
I think it was either the kernel upgrade (went from 3.10 to 3.13) or a configuration option in some sound subsystem that broke. To be clear, sound was working perfectly before the upgrade. My machine is an Ivy Bridge-era Zenbook.
I have upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. The upgrading process went fine but i have some problems now. Firstly, in the tray icon space i don't have sound tray icon and the Ubuntu One icon neither. Moreover, the Firestarter doesn't works and says that probably i don't have internet connection though the internet works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I bought a Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1 sound card because I had read online that this card was a good choice with Linux and came with universal driver software. I installed the hardware correctly (as it works with WinXP) but I'm not able to get it working with Ubuntu.

Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server

also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.
Running Compiz as a standalone WM.Managed to get Slim working, will post how later, but have no sound. If I boot using gdm3 the sound works. Obviously gdm3 loads something Slim doesn't, but can't workout what!Tried adding /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog & to my script - no dice, still no sound
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. (lol) My Sound card is according to sound configuration SBx00 Azalia(Intel HDA) - Driver snd-hda-intel.Opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5
