General :: NVIDIA Driver - Proprietary Drivers Wont Install Properly?

Apr 17, 2010

I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Compaq Presario V3010US. My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 which appears to be running properly with some limitations (missing effects from CompizConfig). While utilizing the "Hardware Drivers" configuration a recommended driver is listed but when I attempt to activate this driver I encounter an error.

This error turns my attention to the log file :

This log file is extensive and I do not wish to post pages of code unless requested. The configuration does however list that "a different driver is in use". I have scoured threads to ensure that I have not posted a question that has been answered to no avail. Please bear in mind that I am in my Linux infancy and my grasp of this incredible operating system is cursory at best.

Ubuntu :: Install A Nvidia Driver Without Using "Hardware Drivers" Option?

Sep 27, 2010

I want to install the driver manually since its not "Hardware Drivers" list when I choose to install. Last time I tried doing it I was dual booted under Vista and I killed my Ubuntu partition somehow. I formatted today and I'm under Ubuntu so I really don't want to screw up again haha! I downloaded the drivers and its sitting in "Downloads" waiting for a reply! Oh and the reason I screwed up was cuz another forum told me I had to uninstall some other graphic driver that was there by default and I couldn't get a GUI back and didn't know how to reinstall it :S I am a Linux noob, not familiar with the command terminal.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Play Soundfonts As An Instrument?

Jun 21, 2010

I am a composer with no money whose old music computer and keyboard were destroyed in an accident. I can't afford to replace them. However, I still have 320+ gb of soundfonts that I would like to play on my 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 machine. No composing now; I just want to play them on my computer keyboard. The trouble is, I can't find any native Linux app that works.

I used wine install the demo version of FL Studio 9, and I can play my soundfonts with it, but the latency is terrible. I have to set the latency to 65 milliseconds before I get anything but a stuttering mess.

I'd really like to use Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard, but the sound doesn't work, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. The System Testing detects my sound device as "DA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xfe024000 irq 21"

since when does NVidia manufacture sound equipment? Is this a motherboard with integrated sound?

General :: Help W/ Custom Virtual Musical Instrument?

Jul 17, 2010

How would someone with very little programming experience go about creating a custom virtual musical instrument? Each key would produce a tone of a specified frequency when clicked. Instead of being limited to a piano keyboard layout, each key would be movable. Holding the Shift key would allow multiple keys to sound at once. (See attachment for what it might look like.)I know there are dozens of possibilities (Flash, Java, etc.) Which would be best?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Connecting A Musical Instrument To Computer?

Jan 17, 2010

I'm trying to get audio from a keyboard into my computer. I have a 1/8' to 1/4' adapter, and I can hear the sound from the other end when I connect my earphones to the keyboard, but if I connect it to my computer's microphone port, it doesn't even recognize something connected there. Sound preferences tell me that there are two microphones connected (two built-in microphones), and so does Jack. How do I get it to detect the keyboard? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, if that's of any relevance.

[edit] I also tried connecting this computer to another computer (i.e. Speakers are connected to computer 2, a 1/8' cable goes from the speaker's earphone socket and into computer 1's microphone in). I expected the sound produced by computer 2 to go to computer 1 like regular microphone input would, but it still didn't detect anything and persisted in telling me that there are only two sound inputs on the computer.

Networking :: Two Subnets Can't Talk To Each Other?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a firewall between two different subnets. The reason for the second subnet within the internal network is because I have a mail server that I want to protect. However, we need to make sure that the mail server can communicate with the internal network as well.

Mail server is 192.168.100.100
Firewall is 192.168.100.1 and 10.110.101.5 (and its gateway is 10.110.101.1 to the router)

I go to another workstation and ping the mail server. I can't. It times out. I do the same from the mail server. It times out as well.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Blank Screen Using Nvidia Drivers - Nv Driver Works Fine

Dec 10, 2009

I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on an Intel DQ35JO motherboard and XFX 9500GT 512MB video card. After installation the desktop looked fine on the Sony LCD TV I have connected to the 9500GT via a DVI to HDMI cable.

After the first reboot after installation I added the Nvidia repository via the add community repository function in the software sources option in YaST2. I then proceeded to install the Nvidia G02 drivers and the nvidia-settings package. At this point after a reboot I would get a blank screen. Hitting ctrl-alt-F1/F2/F3/F4/F5/F6 has no effect, I could not get any of the virtual consoles to appear. I had to SSH into the box and reboot into runlevel 3.

Once I had rebooted into runlevel 3 I logged in as root and executed "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia" and got an error message that the configuration server could not be started. I tried executing "sax2 -r -m 0=vesa" and received the same error:

Ubuntu :: Moved A VM Server Now VMs Can't Talk

Jun 18, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 with KVM and several VMs running the same OS. Everything was running fine and the VMs were using the host's network via bridging. The decision was made to move the server to completely different network. I shut it down, the system was moved and hooked up, and I got it up on the new network pretty easily--just modified /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf. No networking problems at all.

Then I fired up virt-manager, powered up one of the VMs, and made the same kinds of changes. It's not talking beyond the VM server. I can ping the host, but can't ping the gateway. "tcpdump -i eth0" shows plenty of traffic.
