Nov 18, 2010Also I have all files it asks for installed including dostools..Btw I used usb creator, then went to gparted and did something. The system is fat 32 now but with same message, not including ext4 part. Just the mount point message, and something about dosftools and mtools, wihich also are installed.

May 5, 2011How do I configure my Debian installation to mount external USB drives to mount points based on the volume names of the drives? For instance, if I have a thumb drive with the volume name of "SWORDFISH," how do I have Linux mount it at /media/SWORDFISH? I'm aware that this can be setup in FSTAB, but that requires that I know the UUID of the device beforehand and that I take the time to set each external device up in FSTAB first. That does nothing for me when I have a thumb drive that has never been plugged into my computer before.
This seems to be setup by default in Ubuntu/Kubuntu, but is not working for me with a fresh installation of Debian Squeeze and KDE4. I've spent the past 2 hours Googling for a solution and have turned up nothing. UPDATE: My results are inconsistent. Sometimes Debian mounts devices to mount points based on the volume names, and other times it gives them generic mount points (e.g. /media/usb1).
Server :: Auto Mount USB Drive To Specified Mount Point After Reboot
Jul 19, 2010I have servers installed with RHEL 4 2.6.9-89.0.9 ELsmp. I tried using uuid and label in /etc/fstab to automount usb drives to mountpoints that I specify after reboot. Unfortunately, it just does not work in all my RHEL4 servers. After every reboot, /etc/fstab will be automatically modified and all configurations related to my USB drives will be changed. Irregardless of whether i use UUID or LABEL in my /etc/fstab.However, it works on RHEL5. But, upgrading is not an option in my environment. I have been googling around looking for alternatives but everything seems to point back to using UUID or LABEL in /etc/fstab. Anyone has tried something that works? Please help me, thank you.

May 23, 2010I just removed ubuntu and installed kubuntu, just for something different. i had my home and / folders partitioned separately for ease of upgrade, now during the update process i forgot to make sure the home directory would mount the right partition. for fear of loosing data, so my question is, is there any way of changing the mount point of the drive one the OS is installed.

Sep 17, 2010Its annoying to unmount my flash drive twice.. its not a major problem actually but its kinda annoying , its whenever i plug-in my flash drive.. everything works well except when i need to un-mount it.. I usually unmount it twice using right-click of the mouse, then it mounts itself back, so i have to unmount it again.. Is there any way to control this? How do i setup the auto-mount option for USB flash drives?

The question I have is about where would be the typical location to auto mount this partition? Which would it be normal to go for:

Apr 15, 2010My Fedora does not auto detect a flash drive if I get to attach it with the OS already running. I still have to make a reboot and attached the drive right from the start in order for it to be detected/mounted.
Unlike In Mint 7, Ubuntu and XP, it automatically detects the flash drive as soon as it is attached.
make my Fedora detect the flash drive so that I would not have to reboot everytime I would use it.

Feb 18, 2010I am not well versed in using Ubuntu. I was using Win XP Pro SP3 on my old machine. I decided to make the move to Ubuntu. No problem since all files on the primary drive of the old machine were just OS related. I kept all of the important stuff (music, documents, reg codes, etc.) The computer had no problem importing the songs on the external drive to the music library. I am playing songs and loving it. Now the problem... when I am starting with ubuntu I don't find the drive and I can't mount it.
I get a box stating:

I get no desktop icons and I have checked the box in "config-whatever", The Flash Drive will appear in HardDrake but the MP3 player will not. The MP3 player will appear in the "Computer File" but will not manually mount.

I have everything setup so that when the machine boots up it starts that logging process. The problem I am having is that sometimes (not always) ubuntu creates a directory with the same path that I expect my flash drive to mount to i.e., /media/data/ then my flash drive instead mounts to /media/data_/. I need to know the path of the flash drive so I can store my data on it.

I want to automatically mount my flash drive encrypted by Truecrypt using a keyfile whenever I plug the drive. How can I do this? I use Ubuntu 10.10.
Second question:
As I do not know the answer of my first question, I currently use following command in a startup script to mount my encrypted flash drive automatically at every system start-up.

My problem with this method is, Truecrypt always search for the drive in the same path saved in favorite drives list, e.g. /dev/sdb1. However sometimes there are more than one flash drive plugged to my computer and my encrypted drive's path changes. In such cases Truecrypt cannot mount my encrypted drive because it cannot find the drive in its path.
As a workaround I tried "auto-mount=devices" parameter. It is slow because it checks every mounted drive, and some of them external hard disk big in size. Moreover it does not recognize any mount point parameter. I'd like to mount the drive to the same mount point every time.

Aug 22, 2010I always have a problem in simple user mode when I insert a USB key. Can't mount, can't open with file manager. I'm obliged to open a simultaneous root session, to do what I want to manage the usb key.
In my user manager, I don't know wich group I have to add to this simple user (it's me) so I am allowed to manage the usb key.
OpenSUSE :: CD / DVD Mount Adds Trailing Blanks To Mount Point?
Feb 16, 2010On SUSE 11.2 when a CD or DVD is automounted (in the /media directory) it appears that the mount point chosen for the disk always has extra blanks at the end of the mount.
For example, if the label on the CD was DISK-001, the mount point chosen by SUSE is
/media/DISK-001 /
In 11.1 (and earlier) the mount point would have been
/media/DISK-001/
I'm assuming that the trailing blanks are filling in unused or blank chars at the end of the CD label.
Is there any way to change this annoying behavior? I much prefer NOT to have trailing blanks in the mount point.
Software :: Installing Debian From USB Flash Drive - Cannot Mount "CD-ROM"
Jul 29, 2010Due to the lack of a CD burner (at least one that works properly) I've been trying to install Debian on my laptop from a USB drive. I extracted the ISO contents onto my drive, made an entry in GRUB (on the flash drive - I'm booting from it) and can successfully begin the installation, but when it tries to mount the CD-ROM, obviously it can't, as there isn't one. I tried mounting the flash drive partition with the ISO contents to /cdrom manually, but I don't seem to be able to do so. I either get "No such device" or "Invalid argument". I CAN, however, mount the FAT32 partition of that flash drive (which oddly enough I cannot mount in Windows - go figure). The partition I need to mount is ext2. All of the partitions show up in /dev as well as /proc/filesystems.
Also, I'm using the netinstall to save space on my flash drive. ( http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...86-netinst.iso )

Ubuntu :: Mount Point 0 Does Not Exist?
Feb 26, 2010I am dual-bootng Ubuntu 9.10 and Mint 8, both of which use GRUB2. The Mint 8 GRUB sets the initial menu since Mint was loaded after Ubuuntu 9.10. Since both use GRUB2 I was not concerned about this.
Both before the installation of Mint and afterward I see a series of messages fly by on the screen when Ubuntu is booted. These come right after the initial presentation of the Ubuntu logo.
By restarting several times I can read the first several lines. They are:
Mount: Mount Point 0 does not exist
Mount 0 terminated with status 32
Mountall: Filesystem could not be mounted
Further lines follow but I would have to reboot umpteen times to have any chance of copying those.
I have looked in the various Ubuntu GRUB2 files for "Mount Point 0". I do not see any reference to it.
GParted, BKID and etc/fstab all agree on the UUIDs set for my Ubuntu/, Ubuntu Home and Ubuntu swap file.
I see nothing like this when I boot Mint 8.
My questions:
What is the point to error messages (I assume that is what they are) that fly by too quickly to be read? Are they saved to a logfile somewhere?
What is "Mount Point 0"?
What does it mean in this context to say "Filesystem could not be mounted"?
This is all very curious because Ubuntu proceeds to mount and run just fine.
What is Ubuntu trying to do as it starts up that it cannot do?
How do I repair whatever has to be repaired in order to turn off these messages?
I have looked through such GRUB2 dcumentation as I can find without seeing any reference to this.
Ubuntu :: Accessing Mount Point Over NFS
May 22, 2010I have a folder shared over NFS that contains three sub folders:
(Machine A)
/usr/nfsshare/a
/usr/nfsshare/b
/usr/nfsshare/c
I can see these three folders just fine on machine B via nfs.
sudo mount machineA:/usr/nfsshare /mnt/ShareMountOnB
Now I want to mount a second drive in machine A, and mount it as a fourth shared folder:
mkdir /usr/nfsshare/d
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /usr/nfsshare/d
I can see and access all four folders on machine A just fine. I can see all four folders on machine B in /mnt/ShareMountOnB, but when I descend into folder d, it is empty! Bizarrely I can create files in this empty folder d on machine B, but I have no idea where they are being held. They are certainly not in machine A. What I have to do to access the real contents of folder d. I have already changed all permissions and owners to be identical to the other folders.Sharing it over samba to a Windows PC works fine.

The problem happens when you try to install and use ntfs-config and run it. Here is the description from the article:

Ubuntu :: Mount Point Disappearing / What's Going On?
Apr 15, 2011I've just formatted a new USB drive to ext4. After creating a mountpoint (/media/Vids) and mounting it I changed permissions so my user owned the filesystem. I added the filesystem to /etc/fstab.
However, when unmounting the drive the mountpoint directory disappeared and I have to manually recreate the mountpoint everytime I want to remount the drive. What's going on?
