I'm running Sabayon on an Intel X4500-equipped laptop (the x4500 is based on the g43 chipset btw). The video card works, but I get low framerates in games and compiz. I had this working in Ubuntu after upgrading my video driver, but I have been unable to find the driver for Sabayon (or even for ubuntu, I didn't bookmark the link :P). I have the xf86-video-intel-2.9.0 driver installed. Does anyone know how I can speed things up?
i just install ubuntu 10.4 linux 32.bit on my Pc and it's was running fine beside the video card (intel x4500 ) not supported in ubuntu anyway after i update about 251 package in ubuntu ,i restarted the pc after in the grub ...they show me 4 Ubuntu ! 2 for boot ubuntu and 2 for ubuntu recovery and 1 for windows 7 loader !
I have a Lenovo G550. I has a Intel GMA x4500. I use Debian Lenny 5.0.0. Changing resolution is not supported. Actually Graphic card is not installed. I have searched in packages but there is not anything in repos. I have asked my question in a forum, they told me add backports and installed the latest driver. I did, but it didn't work too. I asked abrotman and he told me : Lenny >> squeeze. But I don't want to upgrade my debian to squeeze because squeeze is unstable and I don't want to see crashing! I have googled, but I couldn't find any useful thing.

I've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results.The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.
I have connected a PC running Ubuntu 10.10 to an LG TV through HDMI. I get an image, but the borders are out of the screen. At the screen dialogue of Ubuntu, the monitor isn't listed correctly. Ubuntu recognise the monitor as Goldstar Company Ltd. 52" whereas it is LG 47". I suppose it produces an image for 52", and for this reason I cannot see the borders. I have not a video card. The job is done by the i3 cpu, so I suppose it is not a problem of the card.
How can I solve it? LG doesn't provide a driver for Linux. Is there any other site where I can find the proper driver? Or is there anything else I can do to fix this? It is vital for me, as I cannot work at all with this setup.
I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.

I've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.
I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:

Recently i have installed centos 5.3 from a 'CentOS-5.3-i386-bin-DVD.iso' which was downloaded about an year ago.It was conflicting with my graphics card(Intel� Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 integrated graphics subsystem) from the very beginning as i was unable to install it in graphical mode.So i did a text based installation and selected the 'Gnome' mode.But whenever i type 'startx' or Ctrl-alt-F7 ,Linux is unable to open the x-window and show a huge error regarding its inability to detect monitor resolution or graphics card.My hardware's are Intel quad core 2.33Ghz processor,1.96 GB ram,Intel Dg41 rq motherboard and on-board graphics card(X4500).

I have a Asus 54G43-Pro mobo with Intel GMA G43 video chip on it. It works fine in Ubuntu and using the same display with the same settings, under Maverick in comparison with Lucid, the video is a little more sharp and with more contrast. I have dual boot with Windows and in Windows it is even less sharp and contrast.
In Windows I can tune the sharpness, contrast, etc but I was not able to find a simlar features in Ubuntu. I have checked the Synaptic and even installed some Intel GMA files but I still have no access on tuning the video driver. Is this possible in Ubuntu and possible to be hidden somewhere or I can just forget about it?

what all graphics functionality does Intel's i915 graphics driver support?( blending,blitting ).By looking at the source code it appears to me that it support just 'fill rectangle' and 'image blitting'.Is that all?
I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Xubuntu 11.04. It has an Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) chipset. The driver I'm using is a vesa driver. I ran a check from compiz-check.com to see if my computer could run compiz and it said that I don't have the right driver to run it.It asked if I wanted to check for any proprietary drivers, I ran the check and it came back with nothing. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 on this same laptop and it ran compiz no problem so I'm a little confused why it won't work with the newer version. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe another driver out there I can try? And if there's really nothing I can do, is there anything out there comparable to compiz that my computer could run? I've been hesitant to upgrade from 9.10 because I ran into this problem with 10.04 so I went back to Karmic and stuck with it until they weren't updating it anymore.

I want to downgrade my Intel driver to version 2.11.0. I don't know what version I have at the moment but I have installed Fedora 15 (Lovelock). The reason is that Office 2007 has graphical bugs with Intel drivers that are newer than 2.11. So, will my gnome shell work fine after the downgrade and how to downgrade? I have searched a lot from google but didn't find any solutions.
Short story: Correct driver for 10.1 for the raid on the Intel S3000AH board? Long story: This system crashed due (I think) to a bad memory module, had been running fine for 2 years, had been an upgrade from Suse9. The hardware is fixed but I get "GRUB" repeating on the screen when booting and that is all. I can't seem to find opensuse drivers for 10.1 (that is what I believe is on the system, I believe the data is still intact and don't want to compromise it if possible) It will not load the 10.1 drivers from the intel site, presumably (?) because they are for SLES, not opensuse. I can boot from a 9.3 CD with the drivers from the intel site, and can see the original partitions.
My system occasionally, not often, but enough to bring me to do something about it, keeps freezing. Hard lock-ups. This is a known bug for openSUSE 11.3 and intel video cards. So, I tried some suggestions and updated my kernel to 2.6.35. Nope. Same prob. I updated Xorg, mesa, drm, cairo (had to go to Factory for that one). I finally got all the requirements met as listed on Intel Linux Graphics: 2010Q2 and I download the intel 2d driver, since it's newer than what comes with openSUSE, even in Factory (xorg-x11-driver-video-intel-legacy 2.9.1).Now, when I go to compile the driver, it errors out on ./configure.how do I let this intel driver package know where xorg-server is?
I've been using Mandriva (and predecessors) for ten years or so, but that distro really seems to be dying at the moment. Consequently, I am trying to move over my various PCs to SUSE. I've started with my EEEPC 901 which has a 945GME integrated graphics chip. Using Mandriva 2010.2 it works fine and I can have desktop effects (built into KDE) running with no problems. However, with KDE on openSUSE 11.4 I get irregular freezes, although I can still work within the focussed window. Moving around though, clicking on other parts of the desktop etc. doesn't work, then after a few seconds they all happen at once. I am getting the following error multiple times in the X log, which I suspect is associated:

I note this supposedly fixed bug report that may be relevant:[URL].. Secondly, I am getting hopeless 3D speed (glxinfo reports SGI and has all expected output). Desktop effects won't work at all, on boot it pops up a message saying they are disabled as too slow. I know it isn't a benchmark, but glxgears gives about 50, it used to give over 500. I remember a few X versions back having to enable UXA mode instead of EXA in the 'intel' driver, but presumably that is no longer needed and I cannot see any effect of doing that now (in the xorg.conf.d device file). According to the X log, X is definitely using 'intel' driver, not fb etc.
I am running Opensuse 11.4 on a file server, based on an Intel Atom motherboard with 945G graphics chipset.I recently shut down and then rebooted the server (because I needed to switch off the power for a few minutes) after it had had been running quite happily for several weeks since the last boot.
