Been using gv and vi to build a postscript file. Now I would like to save the output of the program to a disk file. My problem is I can't figure out how to "print to a file".
I cannot print pdf files. I click print in evince everything seems ok but nothing comes out on the printer. I receive no error. I have a HP printer (LasterJet 3005n) attached over a network. I am running 9.10 on a Dell Optiplex. I did not have this problem in 9.04. I had this problem immediately after I did a fresh install of 9.10. I can print open office documents without any problem, just not pdfs. I have the same problem with my serval laptop (also running 9.10).
I can't print pdf files from the Ubuntu PDF viweer on my printer - I get a message that 'pdftorasterfailed'. My workaround is to print to file then print the postscript file. Annoying but it works. I did some searching and this is a known bug in cups for Ubuntu 10.04. The first thing I tried was a system update, that did update cups but it still fails. I found this link:
[URL]
and have the patch files, but how do I apply them?
I want to configure file printer (print to file) on my rhel-5 machine in such a way that if users fire print command from windows xp it should create an individual computer wise txt file on my linux machine. File name should be different for each printer.
My HP Deskjet D-2660 will not print. I can print to file but not the printer. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and have no other problems. I have installed hpip and hpijs form HP and cups was made available via and upgrade. I have a lot of data from var/log/cups/error_log but don't know what it is supposed to say.
I can print to file and everything else I check seems to say that all is right. Is there any glaring faults that I should look for?? As I stated on the other post I get a message that the print job has been sent to the printer and then another message stating that the print job has completed. In system/administration/printing, the printer shows up properly and has a green check mark on it. Connected to localhost shows at the bottom of the little window. Under /printer it shows shared and enabled Then under printer/properties, it shows as the HP Deskjet D2600 series the location is given as john-desktop It defines the Device URI: hp:/usb/Deskjet_D2600_series?serial=CN9ANDF0ZT05C9 shows the Make and Model HP Deskjet d2600 Series hpijs,.. printer state: idle
Across the bottom it theoretically allows you to print a test page or clean the print heads. (won't print) On the printing-local host small page that opens under system/administration/printing there is no group under that heading only new group or new group from selection. I never named a group since I am the only user.
I have shut the printer down and disconnected the USB and rebooted. Then connect the power and plug in the USB cable I get all the same answers nothing appears to change. Here is some of the var/log/cups/error_log file. It does this over and over every minute same thing. The print que is empty from both administration and applications.
Does anyone know how to set up an print-to-file-printer with an alternative system to CUPS? The quality suck on CUPS and there's NO solution, at least i didn't found anyone
i have custom programs written in Basis pro5. Standard output to a pdf virtual printer works fine. Using pdftk to overlay on to a form is hit or miss.... There are products out there like Unform that are just too expensive for my company. i have purchased another product from a company that prints the forms to the laser perfectly but i am incapable of capturing them and saving them as pdf's for archiving/emailing/faxing and i don't much care for this company.
My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?
I have installed an HP LaserJet 4250 using the hp 4250 postscript driver. The printing works but when I click on File->Print on any application (Open Office or Document Viewer), the message "Getting printer information" is beside the printer name and the print button is disabled. After 5 or so seconds, the print button becomes enabled and I can print. This happens every time but did not when I first installed the printer. I would prefer to determine the cause rather than delete and re-install the printer.
Anyone know of any programs to convert a postscript file to a gerber file? LinkCAD can do it, but, it is very expensive and I can't get the demo to run.
I use Linux for my everyday work but lately I've been faced with a trouble when I send out file printouts from my browser from my Debian system to (normally) window$ systems, where they are not readable. Is there a way for me to convert the postscript files into pdf format? Most window$ users will have some sort of pdf reader installed but I am still to find one user that has Ghostscript and Ghostview installed. where can I find the TTF fonts that are shipped with every standard installation of Debian? I'm sometimes forced to print files through a windows system and because the fonts loaded in that system are not the ones I use in Debian (URW Gothic L, as an example) I end up having my official documents disfigured. If I can carry around with me a ready-to-install fonts package I can get over this obstacle.
I use a Dual core desktop PC with Ubuntu 10.10. A hp-laser- jet 4250 printer is connected to it. I am getting able to print all files except .ps and .eps files. When I send a .ps or .eps file for printing, no job is actually reaching to printer.
My work requires me to have a lot of postscript files. Hence i have elaborate names for easy identification. For example --- AP-1_Jul-Ctrl-noEqSA_bg25C_precip,U250-150_xy.ps. I am unable to open them using evince. I get a blank evince screen with loading written on it. The same file named as 1.ps opens in a jiffy. As of now evince quickly opens pdf files with long names. But i would not like to convert ps to pdf.
Even kghostview does not open these long-named files.
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.
file1: have DNA sequences and each sequence will begin with > symbolfile2: have protein sequence and each sequence will start with > symbolfile3: BLAST result of file2 and each result will start with query= .my problem is i have to make a report file by combining these three in such way that first sequence from file1,first sequence from 2nd file and first result from file3 should be printed in a report file
I am trying to compare a list of patterns from one file and grep them against another file and print out only the unique patterns. Unfortunately these files are so large that they have yet to run to completion. Here's the command that I used:
Code: grep -L -f file_one.txt file_two.txt > output.output Here's some example data:
My friend have a pc with only Windows. She does not want to format it for Ubuntu but wants to have a temporal partition (without deleting the original-rented Windows machine) for Ubuntu. How can incorporate the Ubuntu (no demo) without altering beyond her pc?
Second, How can she read files of Ubuntu (documents- ODT File (.odt)) in Windows? How can she print the doc's when the printer only works for Windows?
Third, how can be deleted the Ubuntu from her machine when she be able to return the pc to thye dealer?
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:
Just installed drivers for Lexmark pro200 - S500 series. However although it is recognised by the system and has a tick by its name, And tells me it is connected via usb file goes to print que but will not print. Also tells me it is Printing - localhost! is this correct?.
So I use the following to rip audio from one .mp4 file and then generate one .mp3 file.
Code: caleb@linux-vmp1:~> ffmpeg -i a -ab 128000 -ar 44100 01.mp3
Obviously, this takes a file named a and makes a file named 01 that is an mp3. It works great and I have used it many times. The problem is, I would like to rip the audio from several files all at once. I am sure there is a way to do it but I haven't stumbled upon the way to do it.
I'd like to use a keymap not present in slackware "fr-dvorak-bepo" with mkinitrd because my root partition is encrypted by luks. So how can I generate a .bmap file from a classic .map file for mkinitrd ?
I have 2 desktop PC's both running 10.4, both connect to internet thro a wireless router. One PC has a printer attached and I would like to be able to print from the PC without the printer attached, what is the easiest way to achieve this?
I've tried lpr [FILE] didn't work I've tried cat [FILE] > /dev/lp0 couldn't figure out how to get to the root prompt and I googled until my googler was sore. All I got was lengthy and confusing user manuals for cat. besides going through the trouble of loading GIMP everytime I want to print something?
I've looked at all the threads that I can find on the HP Deskjet D1660. I am unable to print. I've also tried to manually install the hplip files with no help. The only thing that I can find says to use a driver 3.10.2 but all I can find is 3.10.6 and 3.10.6.15. But non of this is working. XP prints fine but I want Ubuntu to work fine too. This is why I bought this printer in the first place.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on an emachine with a celeron micro processor and it has 2 gig memory. I have tried the usb cable in every usb slot available and ever thing else. When I go go print a job the hp panel shows that job is sent to printer and that the printer is printing it. Unfortunately it never get printed. I have tried even removing cups and hplip using synaptic and reinstalling them but no help.
