I tryed to download the pics from my canon rebel xti but it doesnt work. I tipe /usr/sbin/lsusb on terminal, and it doen't shows up. Other USB stuff works fine. I tried with digikam, digital camera, and nautilus, and nothing works.
View 4 RepliesI have a Canon Powershot A470 digital camera and can't get to transfer the pictures from it on Ubuntu 10.04. When I had Ubuntu 9.04 I imported pictures from the same camera without any problems. I considered that the problem could be the camera itself or the USB cable, but I have just accessed my pictures from that camera using Windows Vista.
Basically, what I have tried is 1) connecting the USB cable to the camera and the computer; 2) set the command button to the playback position; 3) turn on the camera. Using Windows Vista, this series of procedures opens the camera folder (as a flash drive) on Windows Explorer and this is what used to happen when I was using Ubuntu 9.04. I expected this to happen using the Lucid Lynx, but I didn't get even close. I even opened the Home Folder to see if something new showed up there when I hooked up the camera and turned it on.
Since I'm new with Ubuntu (especially the Lucid Lynx), I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have read that sometimes we have to mount devices in order to get them to communicate with the computer. Is this one of those cases? If so, how do I do it? Does anyone else have the same model of digital camera? How do you guys transfer the pictures to your Ubuntu-based system?
I'm trying to get photos off my Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS but while Device Notifier pops up telling me I've attached a canon, and I can see it when I run lsusb, It's not actually being mounted anywhere, or creating a device for itself to be mounted with..I plug the camera in to the computer while it's still off, and I turn it off again before disconnecting (As I've heard this is the proper way to do this.) but I am still not getting a device. View 9 Replies View RelatedFrom time to time I do a bit of astrophotography and time lapse using a canon 350d. To do it properly I have to use a remote capture program on the laptop. This was never a problem on windows or the mac. Does anyone know of a way to control my camera on ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition?
I have installed gphoto2 and this allows a command line method but I dont like command lines for this kind of stuff, plus id like to see the image straight away. I have tried a couple of GUIs for gphoto but the only one which seems to have a capture option is digikam.... but the button is shaded out so I cant use it.
I am a Ubuntu newbie (installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS last week) with a camera problem. My Canon SD300 won't automount when I attach it by usb cable. It is visible to F-Spot and I can import pictures, it just doesn't automount. I saw other posts where no usb automounts were occurring. Not my problem. Memory sticks and external hard drives automount just fine. Only the camera is a problem child.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get some photos off a Canon Powershot SX110IS that uses an SD card (right now there is a Gigaware 4GB one in it) but this computer does not have an SD card input, so I am trying to mount the device through USB. This has worked with a handful of other cameras I've used in the past.
When I connect the camera to the computer and power it on, I get

So the kernel is at least aware of it. I tried letting thunar mount it, but it complains

I also tried letting dolphin automount it (yuck), but didn't get any messages about it. I checked the fdisk output and there was no ~4GB device, so I'm not sure that I can mount it manually.

I have a Canon S95 digital camera that used to work just fine. I plugged it in, the device notifier showed a couple of actions for it, I chose digiKam and downloaded the photos. Now I tried to get new photos out of the device, but it's not showing in the device notifier any more. DigiKam shows "Canon Inc. Canon Digital Camera (auto-detected)" but doesn't do anything when selecting it.
In dmesg I see:

So it works but KDE doesn't seem to be able to notice it. I'm using openSuse 11.3 with KDE 4.6 RC1, and it might be that 4.6 betas/rc broke the functionality though I'm not sure.
I'm currently running 10:04 and I'm looking for some sort of program to read my Canon DVD Camera to get the videos off the DVD's. Even in MS Windows I haven't been able to use it since I lost the included software.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhilst in fedora i deleted files off my second hard drive to free up some space, i deleted over 10gb worth of data. When booting back in to my windows partition it doesnt recognize the free space instead it thinks the hard drive is still full even though i deleted the data.Not to sure as to why this has happened, as im sure i have deleted stuff of this hard drive before from my linux partition.Any help would be greatly appreciated as my 70gb hard drive is full with only 20gb of data to show for it

You plug in the camera via USB, and then the camera display is on your monitor. From there you can do everything your camera does, like taking pictures of video. Does anyone know if there is linux equivalent software that can do this?
I have found this software, but new cameras aren't supported.

i have an Acer Aspire laptop, 4GB of ram, with Vista and Kubuntu installed (dual boot). When checking my computer properties in Windows, it does say that i have 4GB, but Kubuntu's system monitor says that i have only 2.9GB.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a Toshiba Portege R700-15Q and installed kubuntu 10.04. A similar problem happens with kubuntu 10.10 booted from USB stick. I am a long-time linux user but not experienced with fixing problems. The wireless network is not enabled and it appears that linux does not know that there is a wireless capibility. This is both with and without an ethernet connection at boot. The wireless light on the computer is lit up, but when I go to Manage Connections the wireless and mobile broadband tabs are greyed out so can't be accessed.
iwconfig gives "no wireless extensions" for lo, eth0 and pan0.
lspci returns "Network controller: Broadcom Cooperation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)"
lshw -C network returns "*-network UNCLAIMED", along with a block of other information which does not indicate a problem to me.
Canon MX320, MX330, MX860 printer installation on Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 AMD64 bit. I am sure Ubuntu Lucid is similar. Once I upgraded to Lucid 10.04 AMD64 bit I found that getting a Canon Pixma MX printer installed was not going to be easy. So I thought it help others if I posted my experience here. To pull this off you will need both the Debian package, (.deb), and the source package from either
Canon Europe: [URL]... Or Canon Australia: [URL]... NOTE: The only reason to get the source is to access the ppd files. They are in the Debian package but it is a lot more work to walk newbies through unpacking the .deb. Since there are errors in the source code it makes impossible to compile a driver. Therefore, you will need to install the 32bit Debian package and force the architecture, then add the correct printer driver from the ppd file in the source package. While these instructions worked for me there are a few assumption I make which mat affect your outcome. My MX860 has a wireless network connection.
In other words I have no idea if this will or will not work on a USB attached printer. (If someone would be kind enough to post back if they get that configuration working that would be cool.) The other assumption is that the general reader is relatively new to Lunix and the command line interface. The commands were cut and pasted from my working kconsole, so they should work for anyone.Here we go:........

I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

I want to connect my OpenSuse 11.3 Distribution with the Internet via WLAN. But i can't open the KNetworkManager. It doesnt respond to my clicks. If I click on the KNetworkManager "Button" it doesen't react.
Result : I can't modify my WLAN-Connection.
I was looking to iphone and i was surprised the quality of such tiny camera.
Is there any alternative camera for my laptop to have similar or much better then the one in iphone? So that i can use it from my laptop, but have very sharp HD quality with maximum megapixel + highest frame per second.
I have two OS in my system. Windows& and Kubuntu. Both are in separate hard disks. I was using both. In between i have upgraded my system. now when i am giving priority to hard disk containing kubuntu, i can login to kubuntu, but cant get in to windows7. i have upgraded grub but not working. when i am giving priority to hard disk containig windows7 it enters and work properly. but not working in the previous.

Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?
I would like to apply KDE on my Kubuntu because the current one blew up. But each time I to sudo get-apt it seems to be fetching from the cloud. Is there a way I can make it to read from my local Kubuntu CD? I have both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Kubuntu Live CDs.
I believe the local disk read should be faster to translate than to bite the bytes across thousands of miles over the wire right?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've come to replacement my 80 yr old fathers win98 machine with lucidFirefox 3.6.3 says 'connecting to .....' when accessing a webpage (eg his home igoogle page,bbc.co.uk ) and then times out .It all works with opera and links2 and pings are the usual times and its doing DNS . I've added 4.4.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 to /etc/resolv.conf for good measure FF its configured NOT to use a proxy ( Im fed up looking and checking !) and ive tried the 'detect settings automatically'this is a 'mission critical' step. Going to linux is a big enough change , so getting FF working will be a deal-breaker
