Hardware :: KVM Switch: Toggling Using Hotkeys Doesn't Work?

Jun 7, 2010

I've bought a Avocent SwitchView MM1 KVM switch, og and connected my two Ubuntu boxes to it. Toggling the keyboard and mouse between them work only when pressing the buttons on the kvm switch itself, but not when using the hotkey combination ("Scr Lk" x 2, then key 1 or 2). Does anyone knows how to debug this

not sure exactly when this broke, but for some reason I'm not able to use CTRL-ALT-F1 anymore to fall back to the first virtual console.I can kill X with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE just fine, but I'd like to be able to get a normal shell to kill things when I've messed too much with graphical stuff.

Ubuntu Networking :: Hardware Switch Doesn't Work For Atheros WiFi

Mar 10, 2011

i'm running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with an Atheros AR5BMB5 WiFi card.

The problem i'm having is that the hardware switch to turn the WiFi on and off isn't working right. When I hit the switch to turn it off, the light doesn't turn off, and Ubuntu just disconnects from the network and searches for more WiFi networks - it doesn't say that the WiFi has been deactivated, and I don't think it is. When I hit the switch again, it finds my network and connects to it.

The lspci -v | less command gives me the following information for the WiFi:

Code:
08:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: AMBIT Microsystem Corp. Device 0418
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 168, IRQ 21

[Code]....

It lists a different model of card, but it's using what I assume is the correct driver, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've checked the card itself and it is a AR5BMB5.

I would like to fix it so the switch actually turns the WiFi off instead of just making it search for more networks (I assume it's not actually turning off), and perhaps make the light turn off as it should as well.

Ubuntu :: Flash Doesn't Load And The Light At My Webcam Doesn't Switch On At All

Jun 4, 2011

I've used this video conferencing web app on Windows 7 and it works perfectly. [URL] But I'm having flash problems. Flash doesn't load and the light at my webcam doesn't switch on at all. Things to note:Cheese works so I know my webcam in Ubuntu is functional. I've tried purging the flash plugin and reinstalling it. It doesn't work on Chrome and Firefox so it's definitely only a flash problem. I'm not using any medication so I know it isn't me just imagining it. EDIT: I checked out [URL] Here's a screenshot: [URL] I'll check back later, Charlie the Unicorn just rang my doorbell and invited me to tea on the magic hot air balloon. Definitely not hallucinating. Ubuntu :: Global Hotkeys On Audacious Don't Respond Unless Open Preferences, Open Settings For Global Hotkeys, Then Close Down The Settings?

Feb 19, 2010

I have two major issues, and one minor one, after I started using Ubuntu, I tried searching the forum for them, but couldn't find anything relevant to my problems.First issue: Screenshots and the cursor.This is probably a very easily fixed issue, but none-the-less, I can not figure it out.How do I NOT include the cursor in my screenshots on Ubuntu 9.10?What I do is, I press the Prt Scrn button, and my cursor is always there in the image, and I don't want that.Second is pidgin.I love it, but every time I boot it up, my friendly name is reverted back to firefoxfag.I think it has something to do with me using gmail for msn, but I'm not sure...Also, as a last very small issue, the global hotkeys on audacious don't respond unless i open preferences, open settings for global hotkeys, then close down the settings..

General :: Customizing Toggling Between Different Languages?

Oct 19, 2010

I have a Linux system, RH Enterpise 5, that I must toggle between two different languages, one being English, but when I am in English mode I only want to get capital letters for my user programs. I can't use the Caps-lock key, because then the default key to toggle between the languages no longer works when Caps-lock is on and I need to be able to switch back and forth languages with a single key stroke. So, I need capital English letters but mixed case second language characters and a single key to toggle between the two. I can't figure out a solution for this. I have tried different mods to xmodmap, but can't solve it for both languages.Oh, slight correction, the default keys for toggling languages Alt-R and Alt-L are fine, just need upper case in English mode.

Programming :: RTS Toggling In Serial Port From Kernel Space?

Jan 29, 2010

Driven by my needs , i need to toggle only the flow control (RTS, CTS) bits and have nothing to do with the rest of the functionality (e.g. normaltx , rx operation). I am presuming that there exists a line discipline from user space for toggling RTS as ioctl (*file, cmd, *unsigned long ) can be used easily to toggle RTS. However, the use of IOCTL in kernel space for the same purpose brings about no change on RTS (oscilloscope shows no change). google led me to this [URL] and according to that i should make changes directly in the driver.

Code:

int x=0;
int actual_module()
{ int k;

Ubuntu :: Sound Doesn't Switch To Headphones?

Oct 7, 2010

I have a laptop computer running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When headphones are inserted into the headphones port, sound continues to come out the internal speakers, and not through the headphones.

This works fine in Windows 7, so the hardware appears to be good. This did work properly when we first installed Ubuntu - it spontaneously stopped working one night, so I'm not sure what we did to make it stop acting normally.

I have run "alsamixer" in the terminal, and toggled every mute and volume bar there is (there are only 4). The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1324.

General information:
uname -a:

General :: Tshark Gzipped Traffic Doesn't Decode With -V Switch

Apr 18, 2010

I attempted this afternoon to do something I believe I did in the past using tshark, to no avail.

Code:
sudo tshark -V > dumpfile

That is the code, and from what I recall of times since past when this was done, gzipped packets were subsequently decoded under a section "Uncompressed Entity Body". However, today, nothing was decoded. I can grep the output and see that the gzipped traffic is being identified, but the subsequent decoding of it isn't there.

Might anyone have a solution that I am unaware of? As I said, I am almost certain I have done this in the past. The fact that it doesn't work now is very confusing to me.

If the specifics are of interest, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, and the traffic I was looking to decode involved the html content of Google search results. Specifically, the gzipped encoding should be able to be processed with tshark to output html with tshark's -V switch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Switch Won't Work With Machine

Dec 23, 2010

I got a Ubuntu machine running a local web server. It is connected to an archaic 10mbit hub, and I'd like a little bit faster network. I got a new 100/1000mbit switch connected to my router. I have 3 other PC's running off it, no problems at all. No configuration was necessary, and all existing cables worked fine.

Since the router and hub are located at the opposite end of the house, and the switch is in my PC room, I made up a new cable to connect it to my Ubuntu machine. It's just a straight-through cable, just like the other cables connecting the switch to other PC's. Okay so, when I plug the cable in to the machine I get no ethernet lights on either the machine nor the switch. But here's the kicker: I plug the cable into my laptop (running Windows 7), and it works perfectly. I restart the machine with the cable in, and get a green light. As soon as Ubuntu loads up, no lights, no connectivity. It shouldn't matter, but I'm running a static IP on the machine. I also have static IP's on the other PC's connected to the switch and nothing had to be changed.
