Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ati Radeon 9000 + 10.10 = Brightness?

Jan 23, 2011

I have been just pretty much having fun with Ubuntu and a couple other distros for a couple years and have not yet ran into a problem like this. I'm pretty good in a command line environment although I end up googling syntax a lot b/c of that wonderful memory I have! Anyways..

I am running an older machine: P4P800 ASUS Mobo, P4 2 Ghz, 3G RAM and an ATI Radeon 9000.OS: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat Issues: Seems that anything that Compiz has to render the brightness is really low. CairoDock (w/ OpenGL) does not render like it does on other machines that I have, looks like garbage. I've come to the conclusion that I need to get a better video driver (Hope I'm correct here otherwise I've been going the wrong direction for awhile now).

Things I've tried through research around the net: I've attempted installing fglrx(command line style) from several tutorials I've found here and there. Most of them for older versions of Ubuntu and if I'm remembering right there have been a few significant changes lately, which may be causing my issues? Of course I've tried the easy ways: Installed all fglrx/ati/radeon related packages in Synaptics Package Manager
Checked System > Admin. > Additional Drivers before and after package installations
Ati Website - the drivers that they have are for XFree86. I don't think they can run on XOrg - it's a completely different setup? Again, I don't have a great understanding on how the back end of all this works, so bear with em.

I ran: echo options radeon modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf To disable KMS.
Rebooted - Video was much worse I then ran: echo options radeon modeset=1 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf To re-enable KMS Rebooted again. Everything ran fine but I didn't have my Cairo Dock > which I can deal with, that's not why I'm posting.. Well, that's a good chunk of it - there's more but I don't remember most of it as I've been working at this on and off for weeks. Again, a lot of this was tried upon researching anything and everything I could find on the net - so some of it might sound ridiculous, I was just trying anything that would work!!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9000 TV Tuner No Sound

Mar 14, 2010

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 AGP4x video card with TV tuner function. I following the description on [URL] where I found a how-to for enabling TV tuner. The tuner works in xawtv and avview but without sound. I plugged the cable in from tuner to my sound card and try to increase volume and/or enable mute on/off but nothing to hear. The sound card line-in input works correctly, because when I attaching my MP3 player I hear sound over the sound card. I think maybe have a register accessing/writing error which handle the TV Tuner sound chips to turn on/off. (the tuner works correctly in Windows XP). I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS with x86_64 (amd64) actually. The lspci output for Video Card:

After having problems with an onboard graphics chipset I've just installed an ATI Radeon 128Mb 9000 Pro AGP graphics card into my old computer... The problem is that I can't get it to use 1440x900 resolution that my LG L194WT (Ubuntu won't detect it) requires and the highest I can select is 1360x768 and that looks all wrong

lspci gives:

Ubuntu Installation :: 8.04 Vs 9.10 - ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics Card Doesn't Recognize

Jan 20, 2010

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics card that Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't seem to recognize no matter what I do. Knowing that its an older card and that ATI stopped support for it a while ago, I was wondering if anyone knows if I would have better luck on Ubuntu 8.04. I can't get 3d or opengl to work, or install the correct ATI Driver.

Fedora Hardware :: Replacing Radeon 9550 With Radeon X1300/X1550 - Low FPS

Apr 4, 2010

I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.

My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.

Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.

What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:

1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...

I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...

I am posting my Xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and Glxinfo through links to pastebin.com

POST UPDATE:

When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!

Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...

Hardware :: S-video VGA Compatible Controller - ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW - Radeon

May 24, 2009

I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.

This is how I got it to work.

I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop

added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.

Ubuntu Installation :: 3D Graphics With Lucid & ATI 9000?

May 6, 2010

I've tried various searches and haven't found anything quite matching this. Please forgive me if I am repeating though. I upgraded my Dell D600 (ATI Mobility Radeon 9000) from Karmic to Lucid. On Karmic, all 3D effects (Expo, Rotating Cube, etc.) worked fine. On Lucid, all still work but, once once enabled, the 3D effect is very dim - almost as if the backlight on the effect itself is turned off (i.e., when rotating the cube, the cube is dark but the background Skydome is illuminated). Once the effect is over, normal illumination returns. Running Karmic from the live disk and the effects are fine again. A buddy upgraded his D610 (next ATI in the line) and does not have the same issue.

Ubuntu :: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Webcam?

Aug 3, 2010

I have two computers--a Zareason machine (no details yet) running 8.04. I also have a Dell 1525N laptop running 9.10. I purchased recently a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Webcam. The video works on both systems with Ekiga and Cheese. I can also see the video in Flash applications (but *not* in Meebo even with the other person logged into Meebo). (Both computers are running the latest Flash plugins).

However, the built-in microphone is problematic. With 8.04, I get playback when I test it under System|Preferences|Sound--but with lots of echo. But I get no sound with any Flash chat applications. I've not been able to test it with Ekiga as the testee (a Windows 7 user) can't get Ekiga to work on his machine (probable Windows firewall issues). I haven't installed Skype because Skype pulled its 8.04-compliant .deb packages and I've not tried yet to compile it from source code.

With 9.10, the webcam works with Cheese (video) and I can get both webcam and mic to work with Skype. (Again, no test result possible for Ekiga until I get a testee). However--my Win7 testee friend says that when I log into Googlechat using Pidgin on my 9.10 laptop, a webcam icon appears next to my userID telling him that I have an open webcam (even when there's NONE actually plugged in). He doesn't see the same icon when I log into my 8.04 desktop with no webcam plugged in. I have searched Pidgin and my System preferences and see no evidence that any of these applications or my system sees a webcam that's not there.

So--how to get the mic to work? (I am thinking the simplest answer will be to simply upgrade my desktop to Lucid). And also, why the webcam icon in Googlechat even when no webcam is plugged in on my 9.10 laptop??

Also every blue moon it works fine during a video call as well. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 Does Does Not Work With Adobe Flash In 10.04?

Aug 9, 2010

I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 which works with Skype, Cheese, Ekiga, and Flash on Ubuntu 9.10 with no problems. (With Ubuntu 8.04, the video worked with all of these but Skype (couldn't test Skype as it was not available) but not the audio, which was one of the reasons I upgraded). It does not work with Flash in Ubuntu 10.04. Flash does not detect the camera though it does detect the microphone (and says it works, haven't tested it yet). It works (video and audio) with Skype and Ekiga. The video works with cheese and I can record my own voice with Sound Recorder off the webcam's mic.

I have looked at the webcam community documentation [URL]..and have visited Adobe's site [URL].. to click on "always allow". But that does not work either. Flash simply does not see the camera. The version of flash on both computers is the same (10,1,53,64).

Debian Hardware :: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 - Still No Sound?

May 20, 2010

If this sounds like a repost, that's because it is. I'm reposting because the problem is still here, nothing has changed. It's been well over a year now since I bought this damn webcam (thinking it would work because I got indications that it was known to be Linux compatible) and I'm still no closer to any sort of solution.

I can start Cheese, press record, and get a perfectly functional video. But despite my webcam having a microphone and despite ALSA detecting it (refer to old topic) I get no sound. Just complete silence. I can't even confirm whether this is a hardware or software problem because I don't know any way to test it because no one even seems to want to look at the problem! I actually want to make some videos now, but I can't because of this problem. Edit: I just tried this with our second, less powerful PC running Ubuntu Karmic. It worked. I got sound out of the webcam. That's confirmation to me that this is a problem with Debian and not with the webcam. So why does it produce sound on another PC using Ubuntu Karmic and GNOME, but not on this PC using Debian testing/unstable with KDE?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Get A Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 To Work With SUSE 11.2 Installation?

Dec 6, 2010

I am trying to get a Logitech Webcam (not Quickcam) Pro 9000 to work with my SUSE 11.2 installation (specifically trying to get it to work with Skype 2.1). I am using the KDE environment. Software :: Logitech 9000 Webcam - Pretty Useless Without Apps Work?

Feb 21, 2010

So I have a Logitech 9000 web cam installed and working (again) with Skype. That's great when I want to video chat with family, but that's all I can do with it. I would like to record some movies using my web cam but I can't because of the following reasons:

1. I can't find an application for Linux that actually works. So far they all fail to work for a variety of reasons.

2. The ones that sort of work, don't allow me to do what I want, record a video with my web-cam and save the file for future use or distribution.

I just want a simple application that allows me to click on record, stop recording and save. Why isn't there anything around that can do that? Seriously, this is something I have been looking for since, 2001. And so far I have only found one application that kind of worked, but it's no longer developed and I can't find it anymore.

[Code]...

So let's recap. In another thread I am trying to get .wmv files to play (they work on one system but not another?) and none of the applications for web cams work as I want. Oh, and wine? It's a joke, not one application I have tried to run with wine works. The either just don's start OR they start but half the components never paint and it runs like a flea in frozen molasses.

I am a bit frustrated and rather tired of not being able to easily do what Windows folk can do with relative ease. Something wrong with that. And I haven't even begun to tack text to speech yet.
