Ubuntu Installation :: Ndiswrapper - Ethernet Port Doesn't Work

Jul 27, 2010

installing ndiswrapper. I've used Windows all my life and I just made the jump to Ubuntu a couple days ago, install native drivers for my card, but at the end of the list of like 25 packages there are 4 packages that won't install because they all say they have dependencies upon each other. Now, I'm trying ndiswrapper and I don't understand it in the least little bit... I know I'm an utter noob, but the OS seems amazing, I'd just like to connect to the internet with it. Even the ethernet port doesn't work! :/

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype - Pulseaudio - Sound Output Or Input Does Not Work At All Doesn't Work

Sep 11, 2010

When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:

Ubuntu :: Compiz Doesn't Work - How To Make It Work

Jul 29, 2010

I'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?

Ubuntu :: Unity Doesn't Work - How To Make It Work

Feb 16, 2011

I just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?

P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000

Fedora Networking :: Port Forwarding Does Not Work

Mar 22, 2009

I have a question regarding port forwarding. I have a fedora server, with two eth cards: eth0 ---> external IP, eth1 ----> LAN IP I use SNAT for connection sharing. I also have an internet domain hosted on this server... let's call it [URL] Anyway, one of our computers in the LAN has some kind of web server on it, which must be accessed from the internet on the port 23700.

So, using iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 23700 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.25 (the IP of the network computer) Everything works perfectly fine from outside the lan. When I type [URL], I connect to that computer. My problem is that inside the lan, typing [URL] does not work! It only works if I enter it by IP 192.168.1.25:23700 Is there any way to make the server forward my request to that specific computer even if I'm inside the LAN?

Networking :: Port Forwarding (DNAT) Won't Work

Jun 3, 2011

I'm trying to understand and set up port forwarding with iptables. So far I've read a lengthy tutorial on iptables, and I've Googled for hours, searched this forum, but I've been unable to come up with a solution that works for me.The situation I would like to achieve is the following: on one machine, there is a TCP server running bound to its external IP, port 9999. I would like to let another machine connect to this TCP server on port 9000 by forwarding port 9000 to 9999.All the policies of the iptables chains are set to ACCEPT; and I have set net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1. I have no problems using SNAT/MASQUERADE on the same server machine.I have tried the following:

Code:

iptables -F
iptables -t nat -F
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 -d ${SERVER_IP} --dport 9000 --sport 1024:65535 -j DNAT --to ${SERVER_IP}:9999

In order to test this rule, I started a TCP echo server on port 9999. I can connect to it on port 9999, but not on port 9000- this gives me 'connection timed out'. When I do 'iptables -t nat -L -v', I can see that the rule does get matched once per connection attempt.

Programming :: PHP Serial Port No Longer Work

Aug 24, 2010

I had a web server running from a Windows 7 computer and recently moved everything to an Ubuntu server. All is set up and running smoothly. I do have one page that actually interfaces with the serial port. The only thing I do with it is to set the DTR pin to "true" which applies +12v to the pin. This activates a relay. It is very basic and simple. After moving everything to Linux, this page will no longer work. I knew this would happen. I know the page had code in it to call out "Com1" which would change to "ttyS0". It also had "set_serDTR(True);" in the code. I can't figure out how to get PHP to control the DTR pin on a Linux serial port.

Also, I would like to ask if it is possible to port forward using the virtual machine itself and not the host.

Ubuntu Networking :: Iptables And Cannot Get Port Forwarding To Work?

Mar 8, 2011

I've been beating myself over the head with iptables and CANNOT get port forwarding to work. Here's my situation: Static LAN IP on eth0 Static internet IP on eth1 ip_forward is turned on by uncommenting in sysctl.conf Here's the output of iptables-save:

Code:
# Generated by iptables-save v1.4.4 on Tue Mar 8 10:34:12 2011
*nat
:PREROUTING ACCEPT [2443:347058]

[Code]...

Edit: by the way, the intended purpose of this machine is to server as a gateway and firewall. MASQUERADE is working, for whatever that is worth. And the host behind the firewall that is serving up http is definitely working too. All that is not working is getting hosts on the internet talking to hosts behind the firewall.
