View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to using a BIND DNS server. I currently have one set as a master zone on my LAN. My question is how can I add a record for my local lan that will resolve without typing in the FQDN? For example I want to be able to type "server" instead of "server.domain.com".

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt it possible to setup a bind server for my internal network at home? Currently, all clients DNS requests go to my Verizon FIOS router, which also acts as a DHCP server. I would like to setup a another DNS server using BIND for studing.
Current setup:
Client --> Router (DNS Server) --> Internet
New BIND server setup:
Client --> BIND Server (2nd DNS) --> Router (Primary DNS) --> Internet
How would I go ab this? Would I have to configure a cache naming DNS server?
I don't understand this error nor do I know how to solve the issue that is causing the error. Anyone care to comment?

I know JohnVV. "Install a supported version of Fedora, like Fedora 11". This is on a box that has all 11 releases of Fedora installed. It's a toy and I like to play around with it.
I was laughing about klackenfus's post with the ancient RH install, and then work has me dig up an old server that has been out of use for some time. It has some proprietary binaries installed that intentionally tries to hide files to prevent copying (and we are no longer paying for support or have install binaries), so a clean install is not preferable.
Basically it has been out of commission for so long, that the apt-get upgrade DL is larger than the /var partition (apt caches to /var/cache/apt/archives).
I can upgrade the bigger packages manually until I get under the threshold, but then I learn nothing new. So I'm curious if I can redirect the cache of apt to a specified folder either on the command line or via a config setting?
RHEL 5 is my proxy server. i want to remove temp files and cache . How do i remove cache and temp files.

Webmin - Check, ftps-fileZilla - Check, Apache -It Works BUT I cant seam to set up Apache as a named server using Bind DSN. Tried most of the help in the fourms and ..... I think my problems is in the master server selection, do i have to use [URL]... or can i just use myservername. I have tryed both with no luck. First time with the server addition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a BIND server that I'm setting up with different views. There is another server out on the public Internet that currently handles all inquiries for this domain. I had installed the Yum packages, chroot, etc. and edited the config files by hand. When that didn't work, I erased the server and started over using Webmin to build everything for me. Same result. I want to setup and verify everything is working on this new server before I take it into production. This is in /var/log/messagesQuote:

I am still quite new to all this but I guess we were all beginners once, this forum seems very helpful. Here is my situation, I will give as much detail as I can.I have a dedicated server which is running CentOS release 5.5.Initially I had Plesk installed, but when I upgraded PHP I damaged the Plesk configuration, and so I installed Webmin instead.
All seems to be fine with this, apart from the DNS configuration / BIND server.I know this because I have one site which uses an external DNS server and this works fine (i.e I can access it from a browser). All the others don't resolve - i.e the ones I set up in Plesk.I've done a bit of investigating to see what is going on, but I'm stabbing in the dark a little.
I've been looking for a good tutorial for setting up a BIND DNS server for my local network. What I want to do is..Have BIND running on my home server receiving all DNS requests.Have certain zones (my.zone.lan) pointing to custom IP addresses (I.E. server.lan points to 192.168.{server IP})Zones that don't exist should be passed on to OpenDNS for processing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dedicated server and I am having email issues etc (seemingly) because the /var directory is 97% full
I would like to know if it is safe to clear it and how to clear it (assuming it will not disrupt/kill server services to do so).
I have a 'Matrix' control panel so i can view the storage etc but it does not have an way of clearing the /Var directory.
I have Putty Access to root but do not know much about command line access.
I found a few threads but the information is not clear to me as there seems to be an assumption of (basic?) knowledge I don't yet have.
My linux support guru that usually does this kind of thing for me is away and not contactable and my server is grinding to a halt and unable to store/send email.
I have only a very basic understanding of command line but really need to get this sorted ASAP.
