Are you able to provide me tutorial how to compile from source new php or some working repositories for this. I couldn't find anything decent and working...

I'm a bit new to installing/upgrading on Linux/Centos so apologies if I've made a basic mistake here.I've searched around for the answer to this question but not found it - but apologies if this has been discussed in the forum before. The issue is that I want to upgrade Apache to version 2.2.12 or higher, because I want to install a second SSL domain on the same IP address. According to this page [URL].. you can do that from version 2.2.12.
Incidentally I've got Centos 5.4 installed. So I've had a little browse around with yum and did a "yum list *httpd* with gave me the following

Installing this on an old Pent II 350 MHz machine. Ethernet card has a RTL8029 chip on it.
Install went well. During boot the statement "Determining IP information...fails" No IP is assigned to the NIC. I have DHCP running on my linksys router. Should not be an issue.
In a default install, will Cent OS 4.7 normally get the NIC setup with connectivity or is there further config work to do on setting up routes and iptables(firewall) ?

I'd like a distribution with KDE.
I've tried Kubuntu, but I don't get any higher screen resolution than 640*480. The graphics adapter that seems to get me in trouble is an Intel based one.
I'm open to other OS'es that uses KDE -I just need to be able to use Kdenlive.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 as a virtual machine under my Win7 windows. Everything is OK except that I can not get resolution higher than 800*600. Actually there are two options in Display Settings Menu 800*600 and 640*480. But my laptop has 15.4 inch monitor so its normal resolution is 1280*800.

i got a RHEL 5.2 machine.and i noticed that the total used memory(as shown in "free" command) is 3GB higher thanthe sum of RSS size of all processes(collected using "ps aux").i know that its not suppose to be exact because RSS counts ultiple times shared memory (so actually it suppose to be higher than the used memory).the server runs apache which runs a pretty heavy php program.my suspicion is that its memory leak?

Many here know I distribute alot of live stuff and thus many say I should try to putout as high a kernel version as possible for wireless, netbooks, etc.my questions are about using a much higher kernel version than the installed headers for instance; I use kernel 2.6.34-ZEN in my arch/slackware builds but the slackware version contains headers 2.6.33.4 from slackware and so is that a problem or no?I built the kernel from source using headers 2.6.33.4 in slackware and headers 2.6.34 in arch...now, I may be upgrading those kernels to meerkats 2.6.35-r5 and need to know if having headers 2.6.33.4 is an issue?also, after compiling kernel does it install a new set of headers when you do make modules_install?

If anyone can help me with this problem it would be awesome.Any additional information needed please include you terminal commands because I am still just so terrible with those.

There is no shortage of questions about increasing the VirtualBox resolution to more than 800x600 with a Linux guest OS, but every time the proposed solution was "install Guest additions".I want the VM to be as simple and as portable as possible, so I would prefer not to install "Guest additions" which seem to fail after each kernel upgrade, which have to be uninstalled before a VBox upgrade etc.Is there a way to increase the resolution to something greater than 800x600 without Guest additions? Why can WinXP set 1024x768 without guest additions?

I think I need to upgrade my libfaac libraries due to some problems I am having with ffmpeg (the libraries are in the package 'libfaac0'). However, it won't install it because my version of libc6 is really out of date, supposedly (but it is actually the most up-to-date version).Do I need to manually upgrade libc6 or is something else messed up? I don't want to do anything that would put me at risk of screwing up a lot of dependencies.

This is my first posting as a Linux Newbie. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 inside of a MS Virtual PC on my Vista machine. Everything seems to work beautifully and is stable. However, I would like to use a resolution higher than the current maximum of 800x600. I've poked around on the web and have tried various tips. I tried using the xrandr options which added a higher resolution mode, but when I would try to set the output to that resolution, I would get an error message to the effect that I could not exceed the current maximum of 800x600.
I tried to cobble parameter values together and create an xorg.conf file, but every iteration seems to produce a bunch of colorful vertical bars within my Virtual PC window, and I would have to blow away that virtual PC setup and rebuild it (along with reinstalling Ubuntu). As I said, 800x600 is not a show stopper, but I would like to take advantage of the real estate I have with my display. These "fifty-five year old" eyes could benefit from the larger size. FYI, I did take a stab at installing Virtual Box, but got the infamous "blue screen", so I would rather stick with what appears to be a stable virtual PC base.

We recently went from quad dual core AMD chips to quad quad core chips (16 cores total) After upgrading the CPUs Cent 4.7 only shows 8 cpu in /proc/cpuinfo it should show 16. Has any one run in to this issue before? It's not hardware related. I had this issue on another box and it was resolved by reinstalling the OS which I can not do on this box. Also I have verified that the CPUs were installed correctly, during POST the box shows all 16 CPU.

I have read in the release notes that there is no SuSe Linux (SLES 10) support in Cent OS 5.x KVM or even for that matter in Xen.
Does that mean SUSE will not run at all or will there be nobody to support me? A complete YOYO scenario!
Does anyone have experience with running SuSe on CentOS KVM?

I'd like to download Cent 5.6, but I'm a bit confused on which ISO I need to download. I can't use any of the torrent files since my company FW won't allow it through. So, should I download the Live CD or ISO 1 through 8? Can I install the Cent from the LiveCD? If I decide to download ISO 1 through 8, how do I then combine them?
