But when I install mod_ssl rpm httpd server does not start again
I am stumped
httpd -t shows syntax is OK

Dec 9, 2010I am facing errors while installing red hat on directory server 8.2 on red hat linux server. I have executed below written RPM command and getting following error messages:

Server :: Installing Complied Apache Using Yum In RHEL 5?
Feb 20, 2010I am using RHEL 5.4 Here is my requirement.
- The ultimate aim is to install LAMP using yum.
- The Apache Spec (httpd.spec) is customized, like the location of the apache installation is /usr/local/apache2 rather than /usr. So I need to compile apache source code using this customized apache spec.
- I need to then install this apache using YUM.
So my understanding is I need to compile apache , then add into yum repository or something like that, so that yum can be used to install apache.

Jul 23, 2010I have a vaio z ( z series) laptop.
I want to install RHEL 5 on it, but media didn't boot in graphic mode,when i was completing the installation steps( all in text mode) at the end I see only a command line ( username logine)
I tried other distributions and other RHEL versions that I have ( for checking my laptop) and the result become fallow in brief:
RHEL 5.3: only boot in text mode
RHEL 5.5: only boot in text mode
fedora 8: boot and install in graphic mode
fedora 8:doesn't boot
fedora 10: boot and install in graphic
oracle red hat enterprise 4.4:boot and install in graphic mode( but I don't like this)
I need only RHEL 5 distribution on my laptop and I check the others for checking my laptop, please answer in simple manner,I'm not an advanced user

Aug 12, 2010Just looking for some general guidance with regard to installing over the native Windows 7 (x64) installation on my new Alienware M11x with RHEL 5. I have considered other Linux OS's such as Ubuntu Desktop, Fedora, and Open SuSe. However, I am of the opinion that RHEL will - from the jump - most fluidly integrate with the Intel Core i7 architecture, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, and other components. I plan to convert my existing Windows XP installation into a VMWare image and run that as a guest on my Alienware M11x (instead of alternatively running RHEL 5 as a guest). However, I am concerned whether it will be possible for the guest (Windows) OS (or any guest OS for that matter) to recognize/use the Alienware sound/video/LAN/Bluetooth EDR/WWAN/etc. (as the drivers were designed for Windows 7).

Apr 13, 2010I had configured my php to use sendmail as its mail agent. My server which is centOS 4.6 in this case runs in a lan.
What I need is that when i fire a mail function from php page hosted on my server in LAN, mail should get delivered to gmail or whatever destination address is..
But I am facing problem...When I open my php page which fires the mail, it takes long time to load say 1-2 minute in loading. After that it says Message sent successfully, but message not get delivered.
I had checked sendmail it is running... I also checked spam folder of destination email..

Jan 7, 2011I work at a small animation studio with a server box running Cent OS. We have no IT guy... I happen to know a little bit of programming so I got assigned to look after this server box. I'm still in the process of learning basic linux using VMware at home at themoment.There are few things requested from me that are really beyond my knowledge at this time and I really need some advise or pointer to get started.Current set up- We have 2 servers. A windows server 2008 and a Cent OS. They don't work together... They are only acting like a central "hard drives" so to speak.
- Cent OS was a new addition to our team. It was recently requested by our client. They set up RSync for us to get files from over sea and they want our file structure to match theirs.- We have 15 work stations. Not set as domain yet. We boot into Windows 7 for projects stored on windows server, and boot into Fedora for projects stored on Cent OS.What I was asked to do- Centralize user accounts. My boss wants both windows and fedora to log in using the same account. What would be the best approach to do this? We want the accounts to be managed via the Cent OS box. Permission to access hard drives on the server should be controlled as well.- Maximize Rsync. This one is really beyond my knowledge. The Rsync process from our clients sometimes doesn't go through. They want to make sure the process works as smooth as possible.

Dec 7, 2010i have a dell server. its a couple of years old and has a perc 4 raid controller in it. When i do an install it shows the drives configured in the raid 5 configuration. i select the disk and do an auto partition. It goes for about 10min then errors with "error formatting drive volgoup00 the error is serious occurred press enter to reboot" or something like that can remember all the words. It doesn't give any info about the error.
i get the same error on centOs 5.5 and Ubuntu server 10.10
There is a firmware update for the raid controller that i could apply but dell's site was not letting me download it yesterday. Other than that I am not sure what to do. I could try an older version of CentOS 5.4 but i figure someone might tell me how to fix this so i can run the newest version.

Apr 30, 2010I would like to setup a qmail server for learning purposes (if you strongly feel Postfix is better, feel free to let me know). When I started setting up qmail (using Life with qmail), it suggested that having a DNS is the best approach. In the spirit of learning, I decided then to create another server for DNS only, and use that for qmail.
My problem is that, as this is a home installation, the internet is behind a Netgear DG834Gv5 router, on a DSL line that has a dynamic IP address. I am using DynDNS, but also don't mind having to update any DNS entries to keep up with the change, this is not exactly a production-grade setup.
In addition, I also have access to another DNS server where I can create authoritive entries for any domain I register. I have done that for a domain, and would like to point part of that to my home DNS so that I can learn.
So essentially, I would like to have a new zone for home.mydomain.org on my home DNS so that I can create new entries for *.home.mydomain.org such as qmail.home.mydomain.org etc. there.
I assume that this would include port forwarding on the router which is not a problem, but I truly have no clue where to start. I have a very basic install of Cent-OS 5.3 (no X and just Base a few admin and dev tools) and just installed the latest RPM of bind (9.3.x).

However I can SSH CentOS machine and portforwarded 8080 and 82 for web access, I can't access via any of the port, browsers says UNABLE TO CONNECT.. there is no firewall in CentOS machine.

Dec 9, 2009I have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

Feb 9, 2011trying to install Veritas Storage Foundation HA on RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.(64 bit)OS was fresh installed (haven't updated anything yet). I tried to start the VSF installer as stated in the documentations. Change directory to cdrom and where the files are located and typed ". ./installer" It is supposed to launch the installer but instead, the terminal window closed itself. I think I'm missing something here. Don't think it's the media problem. Either I run it from window by double-clicking or run from terminal window, it closes and nothing happens.

Sep 17, 2010I am trying to install gcc from source, but wish to install to an alternative location, ie /opt/gcc/4.4.4.
I have done so but ran into the problem that the system libs in /usr/lib64 were being located before my libs in /opt/gcc/4.4.4/lib64.
So, I set --libdir=/usr/lib and reinstalled. The libs link in correctly, but now g++ cant find includes, for instance <complex>. I think I could set CPATH to point to the locations of these includes but that doesn't seem like it should be necessary.
So my question is, what is the correct way to install gcc alongside the system versions while allowing linkage to the right libs and location of the includes? I don't want to use prefixes or suffixes because the intel compiler looks at gcc -v to get clues as to how to compile stuff.
It should be noted that I have no internet connectivity on this machine, so building from source is my only option.
