General :: Ubuntu 64bit - How To Install Python 32bit

Aug 6, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 64bit, and I would like to run python 32bit.The current Python version used is the 64bit one. What can be some good ways for installing the python 32bit version without compromising the OS. I'm kind of new to this, so I don't really know if I could substitute the python version, or know how to make it available by using short commands such as python or easy_install.

General :: Specifying The Install Path Of A Python Package On Server?

Jun 23, 2010

I have been trying to install the NumPy package for Python on to my home directory, as I run as part of a server and do not have permissions to install new packages in the Linux server.

I have set up Python in my home directory, and have configured ~/.bash_profile to find my local Python (which works, confirmed by testing).

However, when I attempt to install the NumPy package, I get the message error: could not create '/usr/local/lib/python2.6': Permission denied Which I find strange because I do not see why it would need to install files anywhere except my local Python directory.

how I might be able to specify the directory in which files are installed?

Code:

General :: Python Package Deployment Tool (Executable)

Jul 6, 2010

I am writing a python package deployment tool for linux based platforms. I have tried various existing tool sets but none of them is up to the mark and they have their own issues. Initially I'll start with simple approach.
1. Find all the modules/packages and copy to "lib" directory.
2. Find python's *.so dependencies (system libs) and copy them to "syslib"
3. Copy python (executable) and libpython2.6.so.1.0 into "dist" directory.
4. Set up temp environment
5. Run main script using "python <main script>.py"

The idea is to produce a cleaner directory structure. Neither I am creating a boot loader nor I am converting main script file into executable. It's plain vanilla stuff. Using above steps I have pulled down a package using wxPython's demo example "pySketch.py". You can download the archive from here: [URL]. After extracting the contents, run the executable file using "./run". This file sets temporary environment variables and execute "pySketch.py". This is eventually not working. I think I am not able to set up temporary environment properly or may be missing some other stuff.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Remove / Install Package Via Yum - Invalid Mode

Since the Fedoraplus site is down, I alternatively downloaded the FC14 version in hopes that it would work. Instead, I now receive the following error any time I try to remove or install a package via yum:
Code:
[Errno 22] invalid mode ('w') or filename: '//var/lib/yum/rpmdb-indexes/conflicts.tmp'
I'm pretty sure the issue here is a typo in a file (the extra "/" in the path to "conflicts.tmp").

Software :: Unable To Create An RPM That Will Install Python 2.7.1 Along With Sqlite 3.7.3?

Mar 8, 2011

I want to be able to create an RPM that will install python 2.7.1 along with sqlite 3.7.3, MySQL-Python-1.2.3 on a CentOS 5.5 x86_64 host(s) in a directory (e.g. /opt/python2.7). Once that's done, I want to be able to alias the new python binary in .bash_profile so that my developers can begin using it.

I understand 2.7.1 can't be installed on a CentOS host but I've done the above using a shell script successfully. If you search hard enough, I posted my script on line . However, I need to create the RPM for political reasons. Besides placing the source file(s) in the SOURCES directory, what do I need to do in the spec to be able to successfully create an RPM installer?

Please be gentle with me. I've been drinking the Windows cool-aid for most of my IT career so, this is one of my first attempts of becoming a better DevOps Admin.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 64bit - Unable To Install Truecrypt

May 16, 2011

I'm running Natty 64 bit and cannot install Truecrypt 7.0. I downloaded the tar.gz from [URL] and have tried to install it several times, all without success. I've tried to install it via terminal by running

[Code]...

Each time it goes through the normal steps of having me accept the user agreement and the popup which tells you to run the "truecrypt.uninstall.sh" script to uninstall. The problem is that each time when I click 'ok' at the last step, my desktop environment freezes. I'm running unity 3d. The terminal I started the install process in doesn't produce any output.

Sometimes when the freeze occurs I can still move my mouse, but none of the menus or windows will respond. Other times the mouse will be frozen as well or it will just log me off. I haven't found anyone else talking about this issue and I honestly don't know where to start looking for a way to fix it.

When I try to install any package in ubuntu (10.04),it gives the error message. Suppose I am installing vlc it gives:

vlc: Depends: vlc-nox (= 1.0.6-1ubuntu1.8) but it is not going to be installed

Is there a formal documented way? I have found a method of doing it, but I find it difficult to believe the ability to uninstall is not formally supported. [URL]

Essentially:
When you install - python setup.py install --record files.txt
When you uninstall - cat files.txt | xargs rm -rf

This will, however, require the user to look through files.txt like a hawk. It is really not an ideal situation I would think.
