I am using RHEL5 and in this package selection opetion is disabled in system-config-kickstart. Is there any option to enable it? if yes please tell me how?, my yum is working absolutely file , without any problem

i configure a pxe boot server and mount the RHEL iso to /bootins/tree directory
Then after i created a /kick/client.cfg kickstart file. and share both the directory /bootins/tree and /kick with nfs
below is the entry of my /etc/exports directory
/bootins/tree 192.168.10.0/24(rw,sync)
/kick 192.168.10.0/24(rw,sync)
my client machine can successfully boot from the server but after booting an error msg is come, the msg is unable to load a kickstart file , i dont know why this happens coz i can successfully mount both the above share from another linux machine but dont know why at booting time this msg is appears firewall is off
I'm unable to create a linux boot cd with a kickstart file. I have a working kickstart file and a working boot image (tested by booting using the network for the kickstart file), but I can't seem to put them both on the DVD.
Here are the steps I took
1. mount the *.iso file to /mnt/isosetups
2. Recursively copy all the files from /mnt/isosetups to /mnt/bootcd
3. removing /mnt/bootcd/isolinux/boot.cat
4. running the mkisofx command (used -c to recreate boot.cat)
5. put the new image on a windows box and burned to a dvd using roxio
The result was that I could enter the red hat boot menu but the server couldn't find the boot image on the cd. I could go into more detail about what commands I entered, my environment, what I tested, etc.
know what can be done to enable the "select text to copy" and "shift+insert to paste" features in linux.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install jdk automatically using kickstart. I have added jdk-6u13-linux-i586.rpm to Server dir (where all rpms exist) and add jdk to %packages section. It always complain jdk is missing. I tried it also with another rpms which are not in the RedHat DVD and it always complatin the the package is missing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm updating a working kickstart configuration.Got a good iso from it the last time used.I simply want to add 2 rpms to the installation. So I added the rpms (libganglia & libconfuse) into the ../Server directory. I added those two names to the %packages section in the .cfg file. And I added those two names into two new appropriate lines in the ../Server/repodata/comps.xml file.
I ran "createrepo -g repodata/comps.xml ." from the ../Server (rpms) directory. I then ran my "mkisofs" without issue, and used the resulting .iso. The message I get during installation is "You have specified the package 'libganglia' should be installed. This package does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort your installation?". I've tried several variations of the createrepo command.
I'm looking into upgrading my laptop from 9.10 to 10.04, but before I do I wanted to find out if I can limit the number of packages the system must install for this purpose. I began the process to upgrade, and the wizard informed me that on top of package upgrades, 288 packages needed to be downloaded, for a total well over 1GB of downloading. While my internet connection can support this, I don't feel the need to install 288 packages, most of which I'm certain I will not be using, nor will most of these be dependencies for things I do use.
In short: can I pick and choose what gets downloaded and installed in the upgrade? I've asked this question before, and somebody said the answer was 'yes', however I see nowhere to control this. No buttons, no config files.
How can I change the behavior of the selection buffer or a program that uses it ( I have xclip) to not send me text until the mouse button is released while clicking and dragging? This causes havok in the software I'm developing that tries to make use of the selection buffer. I need the full selection, not bits more bits more bits and then the full selection.EDIT: I cannot listen for mouse events such as button release outside of the GUI of my program.

Interestingly, attempts at doing an install from a CD and without the network connection results in this error:

I recently set up a kickstart server using Centos 5. I copied all 7 of the centos 5 install cd's to the tree. I made the install cd, it boots fine. I'm using http, when I'm prompted, I put in the web site: 1.1.1.1 and the Centos directory of /network-install/RPM
I get the following error:

I've been told the double slashes after the ip address is not a problem, and I've tested that through a browser, by browsing the same location. (not sure if
that's a valid test, but it did find the directory and display the files.)
I am following this guide to installing eclipse via terminal command-line on Linux. However, this seems to be happening lately with all the packages I try to install..I checked the Synaptic Package Manager and reloaded and rebooted the computer, but to no avail.

In Linux I will need to use an emulator/virtual machine of some sort for things like playing World of Warcraft or City of Heroes and running Photoshop. (No, Gimp is not just as good for my needs). I plan to have 4Gb, to start, of ram and my question comes to one of processor selection. I assume that running a Windows app in Linux would be one of the most system taxing things I could do. Would I be better served by more processor cores or a higher clock speed for these tasks? I will undoubtedly have an AMD proc. I have been considering the following.
Athlon II X3 440 3.0 Ghz.
Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition 2.8 Ghz
Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2 Ghz
Athlon II X4 630 2.8 Ghz
AMD Phenom II X2 545 3.0 Ghz
I am leaning towards the X3 440 (or 435) for the sake of cost so that I can squeeze a discreet video card into my budget but that it outside the scope of my question. Extra info just in case The Black Editions are very over-clockable with unlocked CPU multipliers. The Phenom II CPUs have 6Mb of L3 cache and the Phenom II CPUs do not. The question boils down to how well Linux and Wine are multi-threaded to make use of all available cores and what impact, if any, L3 cache has in a Linux environment.
I learnt that there is a way where we can automate the installation of Red Hat using a kickstart script. However, everywhere they talk about doing that from bootable floppy image. I have a single DVD of Red Hat (RHEL5). Can anyone tell how can I kickstart the installation using the kickstart script, i.e., where do I place the ks.cfg file on the disk and what command should be given at the boot prompt? (Kickstart from DVD and not from any network.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using SSH (with -X specified) from a Ubuntu box to a RHEL4 box and running GVim. It opens as expected in my local X, but the copy and paste via select doesn't work. I cannot select text in GVim and paste in a local window, nor can I select text from a local window and paste in GVim. This works, however, when I SSH (with -X specified) to a different RHEL4 box. Is there something I need to install on the remote machine? I am running Parcellite 0.9.2 on the local box, but closing it doesn't make the problem go away, and it is not interfering with the other box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do a red hat Advanced server 4 update 7 install using a kick start file on the network. The server with the kickstart file and dvd contents is on the same subnet as the server receiving the install. We have done it before in the past just fine using:linux nofb text ks=http://serverip/path at the boot/install screen. After that the ip address info is entered manually and the kickstart does its thing. When doing this with update 7, the install acts like a regular install. When i check the http access logs on the other server, it shows no access from the server receiving the install.I have tried adding an ip address to the install command. Such as:
