When I try playing DVD's in Media Player/Totem the video is choppy and does not sync with the audio. When I started looking at it in detail I see Totem is using up 95% of the CPU which kind of explains it doesn't it. But it still shouldn't be doing this. I then tried the same DVD's using Gnome Media Player and all is fine, perfect video/audio and normal CPU usage.
View 1 Repliesi have reinstalled my mint 7 and whenever i play downloaded/saved videos from ....., i get a choppy/scratchy audio & video in playback. this was not the case before i reinstalled. videos videos played directly and other dvds played from cdrom and mp3s played from hd are however working fine.

no sound on playing .flv files, the volume control greyout. however vlc can play them without sound problem. videos also works without problem on sound.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of .ogv and .mpg files. Most of the .ogv files won't play, and none of the .mpg files will play, in Totem. I installed VLC media player and all the files will play in it. If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.

now the totem movie player is not able to play the video files, not only video files it cannot play anything includeing mp3 songs. here are some screenshots when i tried to open the video files...

Since I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.
I recently viewed a few .mpg s from the Internet by selecting to open them in movie player. Those videos are listed in the recently opened files list under the 'Movie' menu. I was trying locate these files on my computer since I can still play them by clicking on them in the 'Movie' menu, but I can't figure out where they are. I tried using 'locate' on the command line and it isn't bringing anything up. Can anyone tell me how to find the location of these files?

gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
for the package:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
The only problem being that the package Miro requires:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
So, this makes me have to choose between Totem and Miro. I'd like to use both, fully enabled.

Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip
- FFMPEG
- Acidripper
- Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?

VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

View 4 Replies View Relatedafter totem is done playing a movie from my external harddrive ( usb 2.0 750 gb Western Digital HDD) the computer screen will go blank but the computer will not suspend or hibernate. I have gnome-power-manager to go to suspend after 30 min of inactivity. I will usually fall asleep during the movie and the laptop will remain on. I will wake up to find the laptop on for the whole night and that it didn't go to sleep or suspend power after the movie stopped. Note ** I have already tried reinstalling gnome-power-manager & totem ... Also have turned on and off Dbus plugin, and totem is not set to always on top.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to position subtitles in Totem in a bottom on the black border of the 16:9 movie when showing in the full screen of 4:3 monitor?Or not necessarely in fullscreen, but in a window where black borders are on the top and underneath the actual video frames.
Now always the subtitles covers part of the video on the bottom, which is a shame as there would be empty space underneath also.
The same question for VLC.
Subtitles, would be in the external file.
And I am not looking a solution which would need transencoding the video file.
btw, for GNOME Mplayer, the solution is to put "-vf expand=:-100::2" into Edit/Preferences/Mplayer/Extra_options_to_Mplayer

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I play H.264 / AVC videos from my new camera in totem, the sound plays fine but the video looks like a slide show. I also tried it in xine, the video plays better, but the audio does not play. (the video seems to play in slow motion. the files are saved as *.mp4, and are the same resolution as the *.mp4 files from my old camera which play fine in totem. When I look at the properties of the files, the new ones say that the codec is H.264 / AVC and the ones from my old camera say that the codec is MPEG-4 video. the frame rate is the same for both files.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu, latest version. i accepted the default media player. when i had windows installed, i was able to play videos at any level without any problems. the video player played very smooth whether it was in ..... or any other site. i took windows off, installed ubuntu, and now, the video is extremely choppy. the audio is fine, but the video is like it is playing 1 frame a second, instead of 30 frames a second. is there a better media player than the default? is there a setting i can adjust, like a buffer or something? i think the default is rhythmbox music player? for the video.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI installed VLC on F11 and it worked but after i updated F11, the video was smooth but the audio from VLC seems to have screwed up. I went to ..... and tried some vids, nothing's wrong and F11 still plays the usual system sounds. I have deleted and reinstalled VLC but to no avail. Unforunately, i did not know what i updated as there were just too many updates and i just acepted them all, maybe i shld not do that next time
