View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Jolicloud/Ubuntu with Gnome. I noticed the "Save Screenshot" program launches when hitting "PrintScreen". There is just one problem, I am currently waiting for an old Mac keyboard (and Mighty Mouse) to arrive from eBay. The Mac keyboard DOES NOT have a PrintScr button, is there any way I can use one of the dead key's (eg: F13 etc.) and assign that to the program, or can I use one of the button's on the side of the Mighty Mouse (I would prefer that)

Logging out and in doesn't work. Over the weeks I've played around with this machine a bit, installing and uninstalling various DEs such as Kubuntu and LXDE; I have a feeling something messed up my cursor config while I was changing stuff, but I don't know what or where. View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an ancient text editor - Jove - that I maintain and update myself. It has worked fine on Fedora 6, 7 and 8 under gnome-terminal (known to the Jove editor as xterm). I just installed Fedora 12. When moving around a file being edited, the cursor often 'replicates' itself into a series of blocks (or underlines, depending on the cursor type setting) that seem to correspond to tab-stops. I initially thought it was stumbling on TABs, but it does this weirdness on long strings of blanks, as well. Clearing and redrawing the screen cleans things up until the next movement command.
I _intensively_ checked the code for anything that might be sensitive to the new termcap strings that have come with F12, but nothing. I could live with this if the underline cursor blinked so that I could SEE it in text, but alas, there ain't a blinking cursor. Just found out how to get the cursor blinking on another thread. But, I'd _still_ like go get the 'block' to work right. I compared the termcaps used by Jove in LF8 and LF9 and they were identical. Since the "7-block-wide" cursor bug happens in LF9, 10, 11, and 12 but not in LF8, I can confidently conclude that support for termcap/terminfo has been broken as of Fedora 9. And people ask me why I have four computers. (So I can run F8 F9 and F12 and compare their performance!).
I'm using Fedora 14 x86 64-bit, Gnome DE, on a Phenom 9750 computer, with a Radeon XT1900 video card and 8GB RAM. Recently, my cursor (normally a black arrow) suddenly changes into a vertical line of small white dots, about an inch long. It's essentially unusable, unless it happens to roll over a hyperlink, since it's invisible on a white background. Logging off and on has no effect. Rebooting sometimes "fixes" it, sometimes not. It has yet to correct without a reboot.Except for regular updates as noticed, the only change in the system in the past month or so was to add nano as a text editor.

Naturally, I'd like my bash history instead of this. For root and my main user I have no problems. I have a few system users (who don't have a standard home directory) and this seems to occur with those users. For example, my amandabackups user has a home directory of /var/lib/amanda.
How do I take a screenshot when e.g. the wrench menu in Chrome is open? Or perhaps the File menu in Firefox?

If I run this from display :0 then all is fine, but if I run it from display :1, then I get an image that is almost all black (a few icons in the upper right shows up - namely the volume, laptop battery status, and wireless connection status - but that's it).
If I'm in tty1, is it possible to take a screenshot of tty2? If I'm in tty1, can I take a screenshot of tty7 (which has xorg running in it)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having the weirdest problem with some aspect of my operating system: This is a screenshot of Google Chrome 11.0.696.57 running in Linux 2.6.37.6 with Xorg server 1.9.5 with the FGLRX display drivers 8.841 on a Radeon HD 4870. The display drivers, kernel and X server were not upgraded before this started happening. I have also not modified my xorg.conf.
As you can see, the red pixels show up just about anywhere a bitmap is changed. It has been happening in every program and not just the browser. Sometimes they flicker, always appearing at random.As far as I can tell, the Linux TTY (outside of X) is not affected. The fact that this is capturable in a screenshot rather than just appearing as pixels on the screen is what puzzles me. If you have any information as to what might be causing this, and hopefully how to solve it, (or even a theory) please post below.

Edit:Switching TTYs (via ctrl-alt-F[1-9]) and back seems to dissipate the effect, at least temporarily.
i somehow screwed my xserver (I guess it is the xserver). I got the following problem:
1) When i have 2 monitors connected, the cursor stays at the left one even though i select text on the right one.
2)(i plugged the left one out)As soon as i open a window and click on something in the window the window cannot be moved anymore, and the desktop cannot be selected anymore either (though u still can do something inside the window), as soon as you close the window (if you are lucky and there is a "close" button) the desktop can be used again.
This all started when i played a flash game which froze like everything but the game, and i had to restart the computer. I guess it somehow screwed the .conf file or the xserver. I already tried the xorg.conf.backup but it didn't help!
The last time I used linux (long long time ago) I had a nifty little widget the showed what was going on on all the desktops. Is there a way to add or configure this to the current gnome desktop? All I currently get is an outline to tell me if something is there, but I don't get to see what it is. Sorry for such a noob question.Running Lucid netbook on a system 76 starling. Seeing as it's due for release soon (September), can we expect some updates in the near future? I had been using Gnome Shell in Ubuntu with much success, including compiling my own. These days, I cannot afford the bandwidth, and have encountered an unknown problem [URL] under Debian Squeeze. Currently, I'm experiencing a very annoying flickering issue using the repo version which I know does not exist anymore in the current gnome development. To have at least one update now before the release date would be nice to see.

Is there a program that takes the "PrtScr" keyboard key in charge and just stores every screenshot without asking? The standard Ubuntu tool pops up a dialog to ask where I want to save the file, I would like a tool that doesn't ask and just saves on the Desktop or wherever as 00001.png 00002.png etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
