I installed Gnome 3 on my openSUSE 11.4 install.The cursor goes from white to black like it did in Gnome 2 before I edited etc/sysconfig in Yast.Well I have gotten gnome-tweak-tool and edited sysconfig to use Adwaita and the cursor is still black on firefox white in other areas.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a cosmetic problem with KDE applications, like Kile, K3b and Okular, under gnome, they do not conform to the gtk theme set for gnome - which I would like them to do. I'm running 11.4 with gnome 2.32.1 and qt 4.7.1
In 'qt configuration', when I set the GUI style (in the 'Appearance' tab) to 'desktop settings' or 'gtk+' the KDE applications look an unnactractive mix of the gtk theme and the default theme for the applications (which looks like cleanlooks). Some buttons and menus conform to the gtk look and others do not. If I select 'cleanlooks' instead, for instance, the KDE applications have a consistent 'cleanlooks' appearance that has no resemblance to my desktop appearance (e.g. I use a dark window background with white font, and the KDE applications have white window backgrounds with black font, they have different window colors.)
Now, if I have 'desktop theme' selected in 'qt configuration' and I have one of these applications open and I then change my appearance preferences, say to another theme (through 'Control Center > Appearance'), the theme is applied consistently, and the KDE application looks like I would like it to. However, once the application is quit and restarted, the ugly theme mixing recurs, that is the theme selection does not get saved to the KDE applications.
As far as I can tell this is a KDE 4 problem not a qt problem, as other qt applications (like VLC) look fine when set to 'desktop theme' or 'gtk+', while KDE 3 applications (like Quanta plus) seem to completely ignore the 'gui style' settings in 'qt configuration'.
Note this is not specific to 11.4 or gnome 2.32.1, I had the same problem with previous versions of gnome in 11.3, and Fedora 14 when I still used it.
I run Debian squeeze 64 bits, minimal install ( I started with Xorg, kdebase and kdm using netinstall ).In KDE settings I can change the mouse cursor theme, and so I changed the default theme ( which is Oxygen Black ) into KDe Classic. But everytime I logout or restart I,m back to the default theme?

All KDE/Qt apps are fine, but if I use Firefox, as an example, which is a GTK app, the cursor theme returns to the default as long as it's inside the Firefox window. Back when I was using GNOME, I noticed the same thing when I had my cursor over a Qt app.

Something similar to this is what I am shooting for: I have figured out how to do the shell themes (top bar, dock, etc) but I am having problems with the window manager themes (window title bars, window backgrounds, etc). Using the Gnome-Tweak_Tool, I can apply the pre-installed ones, but I am at a loss as to how I add new ones. I have tried adding themes to ~/.themes, and /usr/share/gnome-shell/themes, but I am unable to get them to show up to be usable in the tweak tool. I am comfortable using the command line and/or editing configuration files if that is the only way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have official Compiz Fusion running on my Fedora 13 64-bit. I also installed some custom cursor themes and I'm seeing some strange behaviour. When mouse is on my Desktop the custom cursor theme is replaced by the default one. When I launch Firefox, for example, and move cursor inside Firefox window, then my custom cursor is being shown. Also, if I go to resize some window the custom "resize cursor" is being shown, or if system is processing something then custom hourglass cursor is shown again.
Basically while on Desktop or Gnome panels the custom cursor is being replaced by the default Fedora cursor.
This only happens when I choose Compiz as my window manager. With metacity my custom cursor theme is behaving properly. Is it possible to make Compiz Fusion not to mess with my cursor theme? Or maybe it is a Compiz bug?
Ok, this indeed is a bug, but I'm not sure if it's a Gnome or Compiz bug. Here is a fix (a bad one for now) which might save someone time. The credit for this does not belong to me, I got it form this link. So, here it goes:
1. Install gconf-editor by running "yum -y install gconf-editor"
2. Change your windows manager to metacity temporarily
3. Change your cursor theme to the desired custom one
4. Run gconf-editor and go to "desktop->gnome->peripherals->mouse" and remember the value of "cursor theme" option this gconf-editor branch.
5. Create directory with name "default" in "/home/yourUserName/.icons/" directory.
6. Inside newly created "default" directory create file with name "index.theme" with the following content:

Inherits = <THEME NAME YOU FOUND IN STEP 4>
7. After saving the file re-enable Compiz as your window manager and logout/login to your account. The problem with this fix is that you will have to modify "index.theme" file every time you will want to change your icon theme, but it works nevertheless.
Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit installed in laptop hp compaq 6720s, gnome desktop. Personalized inverted theme with cursor whiteglass bigger size. Everything okay in apps except in kde apps I have installed as k3b, ktorrent, when I pass pointer over their windows, the size of cursor is not the bigger but the normal one. Can I do something to fix it?. I used tips in this thread [URL] to make kde apps look like gnome ones.

This apparently causes gnome to use the Gnome icon theme on boot, instead of the Humanity theme I selected in Preferences->Appearance. I just have to go to Preferences-Appearance again to get the Humanity theme back to work (I don't even have to change any settings, just going there is enough.) When I remove awn from my startup applications, this problem doesn't occur.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an ancient text editor - Jove - that I maintain and update myself. It has worked fine on Fedora 6, 7 and 8 under gnome-terminal (known to the Jove editor as xterm). I just installed Fedora 12. When moving around a file being edited, the cursor often 'replicates' itself into a series of blocks (or underlines, depending on the cursor type setting) that seem to correspond to tab-stops. I initially thought it was stumbling on TABs, but it does this weirdness on long strings of blanks, as well. Clearing and redrawing the screen cleans things up until the next movement command.
I _intensively_ checked the code for anything that might be sensitive to the new termcap strings that have come with F12, but nothing. I could live with this if the underline cursor blinked so that I could SEE it in text, but alas, there ain't a blinking cursor. Just found out how to get the cursor blinking on another thread. But, I'd _still_ like go get the 'block' to work right. I compared the termcaps used by Jove in LF8 and LF9 and they were identical. Since the "7-block-wide" cursor bug happens in LF9, 10, 11, and 12 but not in LF8, I can confidently conclude that support for termcap/terminfo has been broken as of Fedora 9. And people ask me why I have four computers. (So I can run F8 F9 and F12 and compare their performance!).
I'm using Fedora 14 x86 64-bit, Gnome DE, on a Phenom 9750 computer, with a Radeon XT1900 video card and 8GB RAM. Recently, my cursor (normally a black arrow) suddenly changes into a vertical line of small white dots, about an inch long. It's essentially unusable, unless it happens to roll over a hyperlink, since it's invisible on a white background. Logging off and on has no effect. Rebooting sometimes "fixes" it, sometimes not. It has yet to correct without a reboot.Except for regular updates as noticed, the only change in the system in the past month or so was to add nano as a text editor.

Ive installed it into /usr/share/themes and the window border and close, minimise maximise buttons show up right but the other controls (buttons, scrollbars, progress bars etc) dont and default to the generic ones.
I know nothing about how themes work really but I assumed as long as both distros were using Metacity it would work?
