The problem is that I can't write a word in bulgarian into it. When in english layout i can write, but when change to bulgarian i can't. I click in the field for the words but just can't.Can be the problem from my system locale, because some programs in bulgarian can't be translated and I see symbols.

I have a troubling issue. I log into Linux Mint 9 (fully up-to-date) on my Samsung Q320 laptop with power connected and after a few minutes it seems like the entire X session dies, I am logged out, all processes are killed and I am presented with the normal GDM login screen. When I first installed Linux Mint, this never happened. I have the NVidia closed-source driver installed and when the system logs me out, it immediately restarts X loading the NVidia driver which flashes the logo on screen. This all happens instantaneously, so it is not a reboot of the machine, just a restart of the display manager it seems.
There does not seem to be any cause for this. I have disabled all screen saver and power management settings that may lead my system to auto-logout of Gnome. The system log doesn't indicate anything unusual happening. Confused about where to to take it from here bar and fresh install of the OS. Perhaps there are some X11 logs I should be checking.
Update: Moved to Ubuntu 10.10 and its recommended NVidia driver and have not experienced this problem since.
I need to send large files from a Linux machine to another using cryptography. The sender machine knows the recipient IP but not vice-versa. I don't need strong cryptography and prefer higher-speed less-secure solutions.
There are no problems with presharing crypto keys but I'd prefer not dealing with SSH users creation.
I think to HTTP PUT over TLS, but I never had experience with it and I prefer to hear which are the possible solutions. I know that it can listen as a daemon but I don't know anything about cryptography. So pipeing with OpenSSL may be a solution.
How to patch redhat and debian securely ? I mean is there sth like in solaris live upgrade, when after upgrade sth goes wrong I can revert to previous state from before upgrade?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have installed Ubuntu (both 10.10 and 11.04 pre-release) on my laptop but my battery is not recognized and it is detected as a desktop system rather than a laptop. I have tried the cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state method but the directory doesn't exist. I have tried another guide to paste the battery info into this directory but it doesn't allow me to do that and says that the directory doesn't exist, even though I'm trying to make it. I tried it in root nautilus and even on an install of Lubuntu (with a root file manager) but it still failed to budge. I really don't know what to do as I have tried all the guides on the internet that I could find.

Thats the biggest problem I have currently.. when i do it with WinSCP, I usually backup the WHOLE entire /vhosts/ directory each and everytime. And its 2 GB's in size....takes forever when copying to desktop. I would only like changed / new files to be copied over after the first full backup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLet's say I have a program open on another virtual desktop. Is there a way I can bring that program to the current desktop through a script? The following command is the closest I can get:
wmctrl -a program This will switch to the desktop where the program is open and make it the foremost window. However, instead of going to the desktop where the program is, I want to bring the program to the current desktop. There is also this command:
wmctrl -R program The documentation says that this will do what I want, but it just does the same thing as the former command.
I'm curious, I believe that one of the ways that OSX make the GUI experience of *nix more 'snappy' was to ditch X and run the window manager more directly on the hardware.
If I'm looking to run Linux on a desktop, and have no interest in sending Windows to other machines on the network, can I run KDE or Gnome with no 'X' to eliminate that ever-so-slight lag with the window manager experience.
I guess basically what I'm asking is is there an equivalent of quartz for Linux?
I have an application originally built for Unix Solaris that opens a Ghostview window to display maps on the desktop. When we recompiled the application for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, the Ghostview window opens and displays as requested, however I find the window cannot be successfully moved from the top left corner of the desktop. This has never been a problem on Unix, which allows the window to be moved to any location. In Linux, when I attempt to move the window to any other location on the desktop, it immediately pops back to the top left corner. I sometimes need to compare two different Ghostview maps, which is tough to do when they both insist on staying in the same location.

Is there a way that I can operate my WinXP machine's desktop remotely from a Gnome window on my Debian machine? In this window I would like to be able to see and use the desktop of the WinXP installation on the other hardware platform just as if I were on the WinXP machine itself. I use Synergy already to share the keyboard and mouse. Hearing about Remote Desktops suggests to me that this might be possible. If it is possible how is it done? What software / hardware is required to accomplish it? Are there any "secrets" that I need or should know of to make this work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old old laptop and wanted to try Linux on it. I know next to nothing about Linux and slightly more than nothing about Unix. I made a pen drive with Ubuntu on it but the laptop won't boot from a USB device. So I downloaded several distros. I tried to boot a Ubuntu CD but it won't go past the splash screen. I tried DSL and it won't boot that either. So it's still running Windows 98SE at this point.
I tried several of the distro's under QEMU on my desktop and they seem to work... so the distro's are OK I think. Then I tried burning Knoppix on a DVD and booting the PC. I get the splash screen and it get to the point of saying something like "running dbus" and just hangs forever. I waited 40 minutes and still nothing. Tried booting the PC instead with a distro called "PCLinux Phoenix XFCE" that I burned onto CD. Once again splash screen and then nothing. Finally got a message saying it can't configure video and do I want to do it by hand. Really? Like I can do that. So I booted Win XP again and somehow THAT manages to run both monitors.
I was just wondering how I could remote control my desktop running windows7, I have enabled remote connections on my desktop. I also tried using the rdp program given with linux but am lost after that.

I'm logged into my Ubuntu 11.04 box using SSH, and I need to start a program - but it is a Windows GUI program which runs under WINE.
How can I start the program from the SSH terminal so that it opens on the desktop, and then stays open even after I log out of SSH.
My laptop install hangs up after clicking "forward" on the install welcome screen for selecting a language (English obviously). After 8 hours looking through the forums I have verified the download with md5sum, burned 2 cd's and 1 dvd at low speed, and checked each for defects. I also attempted the installation 6 times, eventually ticking off all the parameters like "nomodeset" etc.
There don't appear to be any hardware conflicts with the laptop (a very old HP Omnibook XE3). There is nothing on the hard drive, as I wiped it with a program called DBAN to erase a stable and functioning copy of XP just prior to this.
I have Fedora 14 on my old desktop,Thats it no other OS. Is there a way i can downlosd packages to usb on my vista laptop then install to my dasktop. you know things like mplayer and all the codes.

True enough it's not a great loss, the extra two seconds it takes to manually maximise the window, but as other programs open how you last had them I'm wondering if I can alter things for Abiword.
