Fedora :: SELinux Turn Off For Specific Program?
Jul 19, 2010One thing I have had to do to launch Maya every time is disable SELinux.
echo 0 >/selinux/enforce
I type that each time before I launch maya. If I don't it wont start.
Not sure why. Essentially it makes it so I need to be su to run maya.
If I was setting up the workstation to be used by others as well how would I disable SELinux just for starting Maya but nothing else? Or how to do I tell SELinux maya is ok for regular users to run?
Ubuntu :: Set So New Program Doesn't Become Active Window?
Feb 5, 2011It drives me craxzy, and I can't find anything I can do about it.When I start a new app--say FireFox, and I return to the window I was in, as soon as each window loads it insists that IT should become the active window.This is a general issue with me--all window type OS's seem to do this, but what I want (and THAT is supposed to be what the computer will do 4 me--what I want!No matter what, I want the active window to remain the active window regardless of what other windows are doing--including newly opening windows. If I want to do something with a new window, I'll go there on my own.I'm often writing and want to research something so will open a browser window, but it takes time for the programs to load & during that time I usually want to continue with whatever I was doing until I finish the thought. As is, I'm reading or typing along, and suddenly the machine pops me into the newly opened window--a real pain,
Of course, if I could tell it to either become active or not depending upon how I call the program, or which program or which program is active, that would be perfect.I'm not sure where the fix might be, but since it's a desktop intee problem, I'm posting it hereBaring a solution, any suggestions as to where that kind of action originates
Fedora Security :: Mouse Pointer Locks In SELinux Sandbox Window?
May 29, 2011Running firefox in a SELinux sandbox - periodically the mouse refuses to leave the sandbox (i.e., gets stuck in the browser, refusing to traverse across the window border onto the desktop). This usually happens once in a while, though periodically once every 15 mins or so - no particular pattern, no pattern in the websites visited either.
The setup is as follows:
- Fedora 15 with a bare metal X install (TWM, desktop locked down ala a kiosk install - I will try a different wm to see if that makes any difference at some point)
- VPN (having been through a few VPN providers not all are equal, and this is a pretty good one, running OpenVPN at the mo. - I will try L2TP when I get round to it)
- Firewall locked down to the max.
- As far as reasonably can be done, no direct access to the machine - the install at least in theory is untainted
Does anyone know of a SELinux forum? Can't see anything myself or at least in the first instance.
I'm assuming this is a MITM problem - largely 'cos I have crime sitting on my (Internet) ass. Same problem with SL6 also, so not Fedora specific. I shall put the security spin into a VM and develop my network engineer skills at some point!

When I launch it from console as normal user i don get any clue, but as root user i got this:

Jul 25, 2011I suppose this is a Gnome 3-specific question as with Ubuntu 10.04 I had a way of getting the word processor AbiWord to open larger than it does in Fedora 15. True enough it's not a great loss, the extra two seconds it takes to manually maximise the window, but as other programs open how you last had them I'm wondering if I can alter things for Abiword.

Jan 16, 2011If you don't know, users are able to quickly resize windows using the "ALT+MiddleClick" key shortcut/combo. Basically, hold the ALT key, and mouse middle click and hold on a window. Move the mouse around, and it will resize the window for you.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Open a single Window.
2) Near the bottom-right-hand corner of the window, ALT+MiddleClick and drag. It should resize. Great. It works.
What Doesn't Work:
Now, the problem arises when you have multiple windows open on the desktop, they are "layered". i.e. you might have several windows open "behind" the one currently "up front". Example:
If I try to ALT+MiddleClick the "foreground window", it rarely actually resizes THAT window, and instead jumps one of the windows from behind to the front, and resizes that one instead!
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Open 3x gnome-terminal windows and say some nautilus window. Place them overtop one another. (like the above image)
2) Try to ALT+MiddleClick the foreground window.
3) Repeat this always trying to grab the foreground window.
For me, the window manager seems to bring some window from the background to the front! Desktop Recording of the Problem: [URL]

CentOS 5 :: Why The Selinux Module For Nagios Doesn't Work
Dec 8, 2009Is there a reason why the selinux module for nagios just doesn't work? I'm running CentOS release 5.4 (Final) and did "yum install nagios" and now have nagios-3.2.0-1.el5.rf installed. I'm having to create policy after policy after policy, and still haven't reached the end of the rainbow.
I suppose after I run out of selinux violations, I could figure out how to combine all of these modules and post the result, but it seems really, really weird to think that I'm the only person who has ever installed nagios from the repo with SELinux enabled.
Fedora :: Graphics In The Program Maple Doesn't Work Properly With The Default Drivers
Nov 1, 2009I had originally followed the advice at Mauriat Miranda's Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide [URL] for installing nvidia's display driver on my HP Pavilion system 64 bit running Fedora 11. I had used his first method which just installs the relevant kernel module kmod-nvidia from RPMFusion. He also suggested an alternate method: obtaining Nvidia's installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run and using that. I downloaded it from Nvidia, but I didn't run it.
I recently lost X. This had happened previously after a kernel upgrade, and I just used grub to boot an earlier kernel to recover X, and then installed the upgraded kernel module to fix the problem. But this time, being deeply involved in something else, I panicked slightly, and, using dumb terminal mode I ran the Nvidia installer. It asked me to make various choices and in response to my answers, it decided to compile a new kernel module. This recovered X, but I then compounded things by installing the updated kmod-nvidia.
I realized afterwards that using both methods might create some conflicts, but X seemed to run properly. (I can tell because graphics in the program Maple doesn't work properly with the default drivers provided by Fedora 11.) Since then, when I restart nvidia, I get.

Fedora :: How To Permanently Disable Selinux
Jul 14, 2009I came across the following method of how to permanently disabling selinux and it's notifications. Although changing enforcement from the gui into permissive mode does most of the job, the notifications still pop-up when some applications are started.
So to disable it do the following:
open terminal as root and execute:

If you are not a Fedora user and you are using this forum just because we are cooler here then you will not find the /etc/selinux/config as in the fedora releases. What you need to do is to edit the kernel boot line and add selinux=0 at the end:

Fedora :: Selinux On Encrypted Root?
Oct 2, 2009After my cloning problems this morning were resolved, I have been able to complete conversion of the clone to run from an encrypted root partition. However, I have been unable to enable selinux when running from the encrypted root. /etc/selinux/config contains the settings that work on my unencrypted system
SELINUX=enforcing
SELINUXTYPE=targeted
and it is not disabled from the grub bootline, but the encrypted system always comes up with selinux disabled. Attempting to enable it with the command setenforce 1 fails, and to add insult to injury, the selinux administration-gui shows that it is enabled and enforcing. The cloned, now encrypted, system was cloned via rsync -aHXv, so the selinux contexts/attributes have been maintained as near as I can tell. I did have to disable selinux while performing the rsync of the /selinux directory in order to get it to copy and I am wondering if there was still some issue with this method.
I know some of you are running from encrypted root fs's and was wondering: Do you have selinux enabled and is it functioning properly? Any suggestions as to how I might jumpstart it or force it to run? Maybe I should boot into the system and uninstalling/reinstalling selinux?
