General :: Write Shell Script To Check The Modified Date Of A File ?
Jun 17, 2011I have two linux servers, they are backup together.
1. Server 1 have 3 files with name: file1, file2, file3 in the path: /etc/sysconfig/network-script/.
2. Server 2 have 3 files with name and path are the same as server 1.
- How to make a script to copy 3 files at server1 to overwrite on server2. But before overwrite, this script will check and compare the last modified date of these 3 files(on server1 and server2). if the modified date of file1, file2 or file3 on server1 is newer than 3 files on server2 then overwrite process will do, if not, will do nothing.
- see my script as below: it works find now but just overwrite. not check last modified date.

so, I shrunk my recovery in Windows 7 successfully, and booted into my Fedora 12 live cd to run Gparted, and move the partitions so that the free space could go towards fedora, I did such, and then I couldn't expand the partition to my dismay. Next, I woke up this morning, tried to boot to fedora to run SSH, grub loaded, but when I tried to boot fedora, I got the "File system check failed" error, and when I tried 7, it just went to a blank screen with a single "_" in the top left-hand corner.

Browsing through the programs installed on it, i found smbclient. Am I able to copy files directly from my old NAS to my new one using smbclient?It would sure beat transfering 950GB from my old NAS through a computer then onto my new NAS.

If I had to do it only for the current dir, it would be easy...I'd probably use "ls -lt" and then show only the first line...

Every time I save the files, I'm prompted with this window that says: File has been modified by another process. It gives me the option to cancel or overwrite. It's the only program that does this. I can click on overwrite and that works, but it's pretty annoying.

General :: Connecting To Windows 7 Share Via SMBClient
Apr 4, 2010I am trying to allow my mother's Acer Aspire One (OS: Linpus Linnux Lite) to print on the WIFI Canon Pixma MP620 printer. The rest of the computers connected in the house run some variant of Windows. The printer has been set up to print wirelessly from the Windows computer. Having searched the internet for hours, I have determined that there aren't any drivers for that particular printer.
My potential solutions are:
1. Buy a new printer
2. Install Windows on the Aspire One (Last resort!)
3. Use this piece of software (http://www.printeranywhere.com/), which is installed on my Windows 7 computer which is on 90% of the time, and find some way to install it on Linux. (I tried Wine, and it opened up the installation .exe but when it came to actually installing, returned an error saying it needed to be installed on the same drive. :S)
4. Follow this tutorial (http://justin.yackoski.name/winp/) to print via my computer.
I think I will manage to follow the tutorial fine (as a complete Linux novice!), but I am having some problem with simply connecting to my Windows share folder, which I came across on this line of the tutorial: Test that you can access the share from the linux PC via smbclient. I.e., run: smbclient //windows_pc/spool -U print and make sure you can put a file into that shared directory. After I enter the password, as prompted, is returns:
session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0
When I try: "smbclient -L //WILL-PC -U Will", and then enter my password as prompted, it returns the same error. However if I try: "smbclient -L //WILL-PC -N", it returns: Anonymous login successful. Then my correct Domain, OS and server details. Then the titles: Sharename, Type and Comment
And then the following:
cli_rpc_pipe_open: cli_nt_create failed on pipe srvsvc to machine WILL-PC. Error was NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Anonymous login successful
Then the same correct Domain, OS and server details
Then two headings: Server and Comment, each of which have a different entry below them to do with my printer.
Then the two headings: Workgroup and Master, below which there are two different workgroups that we have, and my computer and my sisters laptop.

Jul 6, 2011Prior to making a fresh install of 10.04, I made a back up of all my documents by copying them to a NTFS partition. I did this my selecting files in File Browser, then right clicking and selecting the Copy command.
When I came to move the files back after the fresh install, I was mortified to find that all the file modification dates had changed to the date I copied them! I've lost all the original file dates, which was the principal way I sorted my files. I guess there's no way of getting it back? It seems that Linux does not store File Creation dates either so I'm stuffed.

The reason I ask is that my system wouldn't boot last week and after several attempts to reboot, the automatic file check came into play and corrected whatever was wrong. This process of rebooting my system several times before Ubuntu fixed itself was very time consuming and frustrating. I dare say that there is a command line to trigger this file check.
