I've 2 linux PCs and i would like to share a folder between them. The 2 linux PCs are Debian derivatives (one knoppix, the other linux mint debian).Can someone explain how to setup the knoppix machine to share a folder with the other.

Unfortunately, there is not enough space for the home folder, so can I share the home folder with two systems. And how about swap area and /tmp folder?
I wanted to enable file sharing in for one of my folders under the home directory. I noticed that the 'not shared' and 'shared' always defaulted back to 'not shared'. And now I see what looks like an electrical plug icon symbol over the folder icon symbol like I might see used for some of the root folders. What does the new icon indicate about the folder attributes and why does file sharing default to 'not shared'?

When I'm in the office, I can directly mount my directory to edit documents, and at home/wherever I can use VPN to connect to the box so it's no problem again.
However: I'd like to know if there is a way to set up a directory on my laptop, that I can use even when offline, and then when I'm connected to the office computer, it automatically syncs with it.
This my scenery:
1 pc windows 7.
1 pc linux debian jessie.
From jessie, mount a share folder in windows 7, in this way: mount -t cifs //windows7/sharefolder /mnt/windows7 -o user=pychi,password=mypass,uid=pychi,gid=pychi
And work fine, the user pychi and root, copy to windows share folder perfect and fast, but the big problem is:
when i copy a big folder, example 40 gb, after 30% or similar, stop the copy, and this is a list of different errors:
- It's not possible change file proprietary on destiny.
- not enough space
- can't fix attributes, date, time, proprietary, group.
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and Samba 3.4. I've shared a folder and have accessed the share from a Windows 7 client. However, I've struggled to configure the share and folder so that the Win7 client can create files and/or folders in the share. Kept getting Permission Denied errors. Finally, (using Webmin) I set the permissions on the file folder so that "Other" had write access. I don't understand why this was necessary (and how unsecure this is). I already had the write access checkbox ticked for "User" but it wasn't enough.

It is wanting to lock the drive or various programs after being left unused for a few minutes, I have not found where I can disable this. I do not need passwords, really. I am the only user. I reinstalled it once, on top of itself (Ubuntu) and it worked fine briefly, then started doing it all again.
I use to sometimes install Ubuntu as a windows app. on a previous version, maybe 9.04 - 9.10, but think I can not do it on this version?
So, Can I install as WIndows app on this version of Ubuntu? CAn I install Ubuntu on one drive alone, and windows on the other drive alone, install both in same computer and get dual booting? I think before, to do that I had to reset boot drives in BIOS to whichever I had the OS I wanted to use?
Or MUST they be installed on same drive for dual booting to be available?
I am attaching screen shots of the messages I get, etc. I have tried to share files and folders, but it does not allow me to select Share this folder as some security thing is not installed, And the time I am required to enter password to use comp[iter after being idle a few minutes, seems to be tied to my folder, which is JOHN. I may have to think about removing Ubuntu from this drive, add a SATA drive and use two, one for Windows and one for Ubuntu.

I'm working on sharing a user's home folder using the username and password of the user's lLnux account. I noticed that home folder sharing is quite easy as I just need to change the smb.conf file to enable it. However I can't seem to login anyway. It seems that Samba keeps its own records of username and passwords. Is there a way that I can map/sync the Linux users' usernames and passwords automatically to Samba? The end result should be that whenever I add a new user or a user changes his/her Linux login password,Samba automatically changes its password as well.

After label the mount folder as httpd_sys_content_t the Apache web server working in correct way (duno much but at least it can index files and excute some php code so) then the troll come in : if some file was created by my ubuntu (personal comp) then the file would be listed in Apache virtualhost correctly.
But if I'm ssh to CentOS server goto /media/www which was mounted to my unbuntu computer. Then type command like $mkdir something Suprising that folder ./something could not be accessed by Apache anymore except I remount by umount and mount it again or "setenforce 0" What is wrong with my system can anyone point me out of this headache

Since i like Debian now a lot (in past days it was a very hard system to handle, but there has been some progress i noticed), i have to change some things (want Debian as main system now) For Ubuntu i have: (was meant to be main system on Notebook) "/", "/home" and a "swap" partition, but since i am now going to use mainly Debian, i wanted to store my files all in the "/home"-folder of my extended Ubuntu partition (has much more space available) not in the "/home" folder of the Debian system. In Ubuntu, with Nautilus, there is an easy GUI method of making folder to be shared and visible over the network.
I can't seem to find the means of doing this in Xubuntu, either in Thunar or Gigolo.
I can use either of these to browse folders on other networked machines I have shared using Nautilus.
I had Nautilus for a while on my XFCE machine and used that to share some folders, but I removed it as it was conflicting with Thunar at times.

I am unable to share a folder on my Ubuntu 9.10 desktop machine. Networking is working, I can see and be seen by windows machines and also my Ubuntu 9.10 laptop. The laptop is able to share folders with no problem. The error message I get when I try to set sharing on a folder is "'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. Memory allocation error."
I know there has been a thread relating to this in the past, but the solution there did not work for me, and I have been beating my head against the wall for a couple of weeks on this problem, and have spent a bit of time with smb.conf. I would hate to have to do a new install to fix this, after all this is not MS windows!Can anyone point me in the right direction?
/usr/share/doc/conky/ has no examples folder... so I am wondering if I messed up the install (I used sudo apt-get install conky) or if this was removed recently and where to get it from if that is the case.
