i want to run a stable service for downloading file in fedora 14 in a network with 800 users. i want to whole of users can connect to server and download my files.

I use fedora 14 and when I'm trying to run the network service on my system it gives me the following error -

And whenever I try to activate the device in graphical mode again it shows the above same error.
The system will also crash when booting if it is not plugged in. However, this behaviour is not consistent. The crash is not really a crash so much as a complete system freeze, where not even the numlock light on the keyboard will turn on or off. I have to do a hard reset to get it going again.The last entry before the reboot in /var/log/messeges just shows eth0 link going down.

I set eth0 with wan IP and eth1 with internal LAN IP.the reason for the internal ip on eth1 is to enable LAN pc directly access to the webserver application..is this configuration is ok. sometimes the server link down and i have to restart network to get it back to normal again.. Is there any additional configuration in order to make the network stable.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu 10.04 server as a base for my media center, with rtorrent as my download program. I've had to move into a smaller place where I don't have direct control over the network, and where we have a vanishingly poor DSL connection. When I start up rtorrent, every computer on the network starts having dramatic slowdowns of internet speed, even when both my downloads and uploads are throttled to 1KBps, which is as low as rtorrent will go. Unfortunately, as I said, I don't have direct access to the router. The IT guy says my media center "is sending requests to all the computers on the network like crazy". How he knows that, I don't know, nor do I know exactly what he means.
But it is only when I have rtorrent running, even when it's only running 1k each way. It was my intention to test whether or not running utorrent on my Windows box had the same effect, but it's telling me "an attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions" on all trackers, which I've also been unable to resolve. It may or may not be symptomatic of the same issue, but the UI of rtorrent is painfully slow. As in, I push the down arrow, go make myself a sandwich and watch some telly, and maybe when I'm done it's selected the next torrent. I used to use Transmission, but it used more resources and interfered with watching shows.
When I start downloading torrent via transmission, utorrent, deluge every time I get disconnected network which can be fixed with restarting DSL modem, I've never had the problem in Win7 an WinXP.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSamba up and running on my pc. pc runs FC12 with kde. A laptop has win vista. The pc can access the shares on the laptop but the laptop has authentication issues to access the pc. Note that windows doesnt enforce authentication forincoming network connections.Using the system-config-samba util i tried to map a windows user to the unix user "feduser". The laptop (named LAPPY) has a user (lapuser) which has on windows no password.What should I tell samba config what the windows username should be? lapuser or LAPPYlapuser doesnt work because when accessing the pc via the laptop, the authentication fails. The only auth that is successful is when choosing the same winusername as the unix username.
Secondary, id like to setup the laptop so that the user doesnt have to provide a name and password, or at least not more then once in the lifetime of the laptop. Note that you cant provide an empty password to system-config-samba. How is that possible?
Strange but not really on issue imho:the samba - KDE control module(kcmshall4) (and the smb.conf) shows 2 shares: the homedirs and the data dir the samba server configurator (system-config-samba) shows only the datadir.
I have recently installed CentOS onto an old machine to get it up and running as a basic web/mail server. Originally the Network Interface worked ok, however I have been editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to try and set the IP address to be static.Now when I run the 'service network restart' command it won't bring the eth0 interface up and comes up with the following errors;
ifcfg-eth0 Line 3 DEVICE: command not found
missing config file ifcfg-ifcfg-eth0
It doesn't seem to like any of the command words, even though most of these were in the original file that worked and the ones I added to do static I have commented out.
I have been suffering a connection problem with one of my VPSs recently and I really just can not seem to figure out what is causing the issue. First of all the issue only appears to hit my home computer/network and not other people, it might sound like a routing issue but it doesn't appear to be so. When I am hit by connection issues, I can resolve the issue by logging into Dom-0 (all other VPSs are also available) and consoling the offending VPS before running "service network restart". I personally can not think of anything that would require the network service being restarted and only hit myself (and only at home on top of that).
The VPS itself is dedicated to running minecraft server and is using CentOS, when it occurs I can not SSH the server either, all other ports and methods are disabled by firewall (iptables appears to have no effect in regards to this issue either). Fundamentally I am just thinking if anybody could think of any reason the VPS would only refuse connection to myself that restarting the network service would fix. A few other notes, the physical Server is hosted within a Datacenter, running 24/7 with a static IP. No other VPSs hosted on the machine have any such issues, the machine appears running normally via console and has no visible errors or logs that I know of reporting any issues that could be causing this.
I have Redhat enterprise linux 4 and it is used for squid. This machine is behind the Cisco PIX Firewall and it is handled by our network administrator. few days ago, my boss ordered me to allow Mail (Yahoo, Hotmail, G-Mail) only to some users and block every things for them. But, when I restart the network service this IPv6 address is gone. How could I make it as a permanent IPv6 address( that should be edited or deleted when I want but not when I only restart the network)to my interface?
Is it possible to have a user in Ubuntu/Debian that does not have access to synaptic, apt-get, dpkg and cannot even download anything from the Web, but has root privileges otherwise?

how the file is generated or what it contains is not important at this point.The important question is how to prevent the file from being downloaded and its contents from being displayed in the browser window?Since it is not recognized by the web browser so it is downloaded on the system. That way, what the script does is exposed to the outside world.Okay, I usually keep such scripts in../cgi-bin/. But for files (text files, in the example) which are being uploaded by a user should not be downloaded by another user.

I tried to make this permanent by adding net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding=1 to the /etc/sysctl.conf file.

Whilst I was messing around with my graphics drivers I managed to totally screw up the system, now my desktop won't start, leaving me with just the command prompt. In order to fix it I will need to get my wireless adapter connected to my home network, this is proving tricky. I understand that NetworkManager is responsible for bringing up the network but unfortunately without starting GNOME I don't have the settings available to me (through the nm-cli) or a way to configure it.
Is there a way to bring up whatever service holds the network settings without GNOME? In the meantime I am looking into alternative ways of configuring NM, perhaps through the DBUS interface? Even so, I suspect that I will still need a settings ervice at the end of it..

I remember back when I used Windows, there was a shell command call "net view", which would allow me to see all the other users on my wireless net.
Is there any command or application that can do this? I dont mind if it is a terminal command either, but I would really like to know a way that I could see other users on my network.

As superuser, I can access the network (internet router) via "Wicd" perfectly well.
Both Client users can't.
Do I have to give them special user priviledges? If yes, which ones?
I installed ldap on my server and one of my client machines yesterday.It also now won't let me get into graphical utilities that require root privileges; synaptic for example. It comes back with "incorrect password". I noticed that in the terminal it now requires me to enter two passwords to become root: the root password and the ldap password. I wonder if the two are related.I'm not sure what information to post; there's a ton of configuration files associated with this setup. Can somebody help me troubleshoot this? Thanks!
