View 2 RepliesI'm an emacs (and ubuntu of course!) enthusiast, and I'd like to use it to write latex file. I'm using longlines mode in emacs to wrap around the lines, the problem is though that once a line is wrapped, the indentation is lost...
is there a feature which could be activated to prevent this?
I open a file in Ubuntu nano editor from the comand line and I want to copy all the contents of the file so I can paste it in an another application outside the shell. So far I can only copy using shift on the screen that is visible but not on all content.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought an acer aspire one and didn't know the OS was linux. I thought I'd give it a go anyway. I've been researching how to change the desktop type and discovered i need a script reading/writing program to do this. a bit more research told me to download the nano program. I've now done this but have no idea how to go about installing the software.

I am trying to copy paste from a file in Nano to a text editor outside of nano on my machine (I am running windows using Nano through Putty) and I cannot figure out how to do it. I can select with mouse support enabled everything that I want to in Nano and I can cut it, but when I try to copy into my other text editor, it does not work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to use visudo in order to make a shell script properly work, certain parts of it require that I can use sudo without being prompted to enter my password and I need to use visudo to properly edit sudoers. I cannot stand vi, I don't know how to use it very well, the documentation/manual is confusing and to be honest i would rather use nano, I personally hate vi or vim and would never in a million years want to use it. Is it possible in fedora 12 to change visudo to sue nano instead? I don't care if I have to recompile visudo to make this a possibility because it beats using vi any day of the week. (In fact I don't get why it is the default, it is very awkward!)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to restore my ipod nano 3rd gen. Banshee, rhythmbox, and gtkpod do not work properly so I've resorted to using virtualbox and windows xp with itunes. My problem is I can only mount the ipod in virtualbox once per boot. If i have to unplug it i have to completely restart my computer to get the ipod to be mounted again. oddly, this is only a problem after I launch virtualbox. I can unplug and plug in my ipod as many times as i want in ubuntu and it'll mount every time. However, as soon as I launch virtualbox I get one chance in windows vm and then its gone. even if I close virtualbox I can't get ubuntu to see my ipod.

lxde
On a notebook mainboard, that has no display, a vga display is connected, I want to set mainboard display to turned off and vga display turned on and primary. Keeping the settings after restarting.
In lxde there is 'display settings'. If I set 'turn off laptop lcd and use external monitor only vga', it does not keep the setting, not even until the computer is turned off. It defaults to the setting with both displays turned on.
I got this link [URL] ....
I cannot find the location of the file.
Using nano editor on a file, can I set the vga display to get the only and primary display also after restarting the mainboard? What file and location?
Should I edit text to
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1024x768 --rate 60
xrandr --output VGA1 --primary
What do I write to turn off lvds display? Will the settings apply such that the debian login screen will show on the vga display when starting the mainboard?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy iPod Nano 3G, which used to work perfectly in 9.10, doesn't seem to work in 10.04. It's detected by Ubuntu and Rhythmbox, but Rhythmbox can't see what's on it and you can't synch to it. Banshee doesn't even detect it at all. I thought iPod compatibility had been improved for this release, not gotten worse? Anyway, what can I do to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2nd Gen iPod Nano isn't syncing with Rhythmbox, Banshee, or any other music program. My computer will see the iPod and mount it fine, but only as a Read-Only drive (so I can't drag files onto it). In Banshee, for example, it will see the drive, but none of the sync options work, and I can't drag music files from the library onto the iPod.and if anyone knows anything, that'd be great. Also, if you need more info, let me know. Trying to move everything into Linux and this is really the last thing I want to work to make the move final.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a: biostar viotech 3100+ MB with 1GB DDR2 @ 667MHz a DVD drive and a 40Gig on the IDE port
When I try to install the Ubuntu distro 9.10, 64 bit, from a DVD. I get the error messy that the CPU isn't a 64 bit.
Biostar support isn't any help because they think there is an Atom Intel instead. So they told me I can't install a 64 bit OS since I have a Intel Atom CPU.
Am I stuck living in a 32 bit world? is that there is a BIOS setting I can change?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've looked at tutorials but can't find out how to save a cron job in nano text editor.
I open crontab with

crontab -e
The cron job I want to save is
Quote:
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
So now I've got this in nano text editor
Quote:
# m h dom mon dow command
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
What exactly do I do now to save the cron job? File doesn't have a Save As option,;just Open Terminal, Open Tab and New Profile.
I am trying to get working properly with Ubuntu. Currently I am trying to get it to work with Banshee.Originally, my girlfriend connected it to iTunes running under Windows, and configured it and loaded music, photos and podcasts onto it. Unfortunately for her, the Windows machine had a hardware failure, and there is no other PC running real Windows for her to use. I have some Windows Virtual Machines on my Ubuntu server, but there are known problems passing through the iPod USB connection to a KVM Virtual Machine.
I tried iTunes under Wine (using the PlayOnLinux software to install and configure), but that also doesn't work (also apparently a known problem). So I am left with getting the iPod working with real native Ubuntu software. I tried Rhythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support writing to an iPod. Then I tried Banshee, which claims to be able to do it all.Banshee can connect to the iPod, and I can load music and videos onto the iPod, but:Banshee cannot see any of the music already on the iPod (loaded with ITunes),The iPod cannot see any of the files (music or video, nor any new Playlists) loaded by Banshee. The files are there (I can see them by browsing the iPod device with Nautilus), and they are certainly taking up storage space, but they do not show up when using the iPod directly. It is as if there are 2 iPods: the real iPod, and a virtual iPod accessed by Banshee.
I am running Banshee 1.6 Beta 3 (1.5.2), on Jaunty (9.04).When I first connected the iPod to Banshee it told me that, because the device had been used with a new version of iTunes, the media catalogue would have to be rebuilt, to which I agreed. I am starting to suspect that there are now 2 media catalogues on the iPod, one being used by Banshee, and the other by the iPod iteslf.
I used this code ffmpeg -i video.flv -r 12.5 -s 320x240 -vcodec mpeg -ar 22050 -ab 128k -acodec ac3 out.mp4 for converting a flv to mp4. The output is all right, but in the ipod nano 3g 4GB it has no sound. What's wrong? Maybe I put the wrong -acodec ac3 options?
Code:
-acodec libfaac
Code:
-acodec aac
gives me
Code:
Unknown encoder 'libfaac'
I have an iPod nano 5th generation and can't get it to recognise any music I load from amarok or rhythmbox. I tried to install iTunes with wine but that didn't work and I have no access to a windows installation disk so I can run iTunes through virtual box. If anyone knows of any fix (even if it's temporary) that I can use to get music to play on my iPod, I have a 36 hour journey coming up and really want to be able to listen to some music to dull the boredom.
