However "

So option dumpfile in man page is there to help us!
But well the command

How to force mplayer to dump file -tv flow data to file?

I have a Zotac IONITX-F-E motherboard (Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 GHz + Nvidia ION) -based box with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit installed. My goal is to play back 1080p video.
I have mplayer installed (which I compiled from source with --enable-vdpau). I try to run mplayer with this command:
Code:
mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau path/to/myfile.mkv
I get the following message in my terminal:
Code:
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
I have libvdpau-dev and libvdpau1 installed.
[Code]....
Before doing all this, I was able to get the nvidia 195.36.24 driver installed, but I am still having some trouble, which may or may not be related.

I'm playing a little bit with OpenCV but the webcam that i have on my desktop isn't app-friendly... so i could not get it working with OpenCV, it's a 0ac8:301b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0301 WebCam and it worked out of the box with Cheese and after a little bit of tweak i get it working with camorama also. But some apps, like Skype and OpenCV demos doesn't work, believe me, i tried everything to get it working, i tried even upgrading to a very new kernel.
So i had the idea to create a "virtual" video device and using some app that can read the wcam i could print the wcam's output on such device, which should be compatible and app-friendly, so i would use that device always.

This should be a very elementary question. I have a URL like http://SERVERNAME/file.wmv. When I enter it in "Open Location" in gnome-mpLayer it connects to the server and plays the stream. But when I run
mplayer "URL"
in the terminal I get a crazy endless loop of
Playing URL.
Resolving SERVERNAME for AF_INET6...
Couldn't resolve name for AF_INET6: SERVERNAME
Resolving SERVERNAME for AF_INET...
Connecting to server SERVERNAME[xxx.xx.xxx.xx]: 80...
Cache size set to 320 KBytes
I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private. So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? Or is it possible to see how mplayer is called by gnome-mplayer and what output messages it generates?I use gnome-mplayer 0.9.9.2 and mplayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 on Ubuntu 10.10.

One of my clients needs a backup of his svn repository. I see that this is possible using svadmin dump command. I see where the location of the source repository is, but I don't see anything in documentation as to where the actual dump file is located. I need to know where the dump file is so I can scp or rsync the file to another server for backup.

After booting, my RAID1 device (/dev/md_d0 *) sometimes goes in some funny state and I cannot mount it.
* Originally I created /dev/md0 but it has somehow changed itself into /dev/md_d0.
# mount /opt
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/md_d0,
[code]...
In /proc/partitions the last entry is md_d0 at least now, after reboot, when the device happens to be active again. (I'm not sure if it would be the same when it's inactive.)
Resolution: as Jimmy Hedman suggested, I took the output of mdadm --examine --scan:
ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID=de8fbd92[...]
and added it in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, which seems to have fixed the main problem. After changing /etc/fstab to use /dev/md0 again (instead of /dev/md_d0), the RAID device also gets automatically mounted!

Since I installed Ubuntu 9.10 recently and downloaded a new copy of MPlayer, a Shell execution of Mplayer of a video with the -fps switch, sees the -fps being ignored. The video in question plays the video too fast and goes out of synch with the audio. This has never been a problem as I play the video using the shell and include the -fps option to slow the video down. For instance, the command below would play the video at 30 fps:
mplayer -x 640 -y 480 -fps 30 "/media/USB2/williams.flv"
It has always worked before. What's changed in the latest mplayer, or is there something else I need to install in order to get -fps functionality? I can paste the (rather long) output mplayer gives upon execution of the above command.

I am brand new to linux and i am finding it really frustrating cause i always thought i had quite a knack for computers. ive looked online and searched a bunch of stuff but because im so new to linux i am having a hard time even understand some of the stuff. i really want to get comfortable/fluent with linux and unix and what not.
My netbook model is HP Compaq Mini 110 the distribution i am using is Linux Mint 10
My broadcom wifi device isnt working or something.
When i first installed mint, it said that i needed non-free drivers?
The ethernet cable instantly gave me connection and i was able to run updates but the wifi still doesnt work i think the updates only updated the free ones and not the non-free ones cause i dont remember ever specifying to download the non free ones how do i manually specify to download all available updates?
I also typed:
The output says:
Also when i right click on the little network sign on the bottom right corner, then it says "Wireless Networks device not read (firmware missing)"

I am trying to get mplayer-vaapi working on my system, so I can watch 1080p videos with hardware acceleration (and to remove the tear effect).
Anyway I am having trouble getting VA Api to work correctly. I have extensively google-ed around, and I cannot find a way to fix this problem.
Here is the output for vainfo (the error from vainfo is the same as mplayer-vaapi):
Code:
libva: libva version 0.31.1-sds1
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
[Code].....
but I have found that:
1. The Xlib error shouldn't matter
2. I do have an fglrx_drv_video.so file in /usr/lib/va/drivers
3. I have installed the latest libva amd64 deb package
4. I have installed the latest xvba amd64 deb package
I am running Lucid on 2.6.34-020634-generic kernel (with a patched fglrx module). I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series card.
Also before I found the deb package for libva I followed this tutorial to compile it (some things had to be tweaked for it to compile successfully) [URL]. But I did reinstall libva when I found the .deb package.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10. At some point gnome-mplayer (and gecko-player) have stopped working. Try open any audio or video file there is nothing (the progress bar just shows "stopped"). However, Smplayer is working flawlessly for both video and audio files so I am sure it is not a mplayer problem
I have delete the folder .conf/gnome-mplayer but nothing changes.
gnome-mplayer version 0.9.9.2
mplayer version 2.0

I am "fleshing out" my USB flash drive Netbook Remix of Ubuntu and have run into a snag on getting Mplayer Movie Encoder to work. Synaptics eventually showed 28 new packages will be installed which was done. But, the skin showing the "controls" (fast forward, pause etc) is dead. I am using the USB flash on a HP desktop and all other Remix features work well. Plus the Nvidea gui card fills my 19" flat screen exquisitely well. And, the stick works very nicely on my Acer Netbook (aspire one 250) too.

I downloaded camE and camorama in hope of controling my webcam's framerate for skype because right now it's 24-30 which gives me dark video. But if I lower the frame rate to something like 10, the video magically brightens. camE doesn't do anything..like it turns on my webcam and does some ftp..fails..turns of my webcam ..back to normal. Camorama can't connect to my webcame. Cheese, guvideo are successfully able to conect to my webcam and play around with it.What I want to do is edit my /dev/video0 or some file from where I can fix the framerate for skype.

What I want to be able to do is open the (theoretical) output stream it produces in vlc and record it from there. Then I run into my next issue. There is no video* folder or link or file in my /dev directory and I can't stream video directly from the appropriate 'special file' inside /dev/bus/usb/00*/00*

Seemingly at random when I reboot my PC which I do every now and then, when I get it back up and running it will sometimes have switched my video card from using /dev/video1 to /dev/video0 or vice versa. It's not a huge deal but it is slightly annoying and I would like to understand why it does it and how I can stop it from flip flopping.
Not sure what you need to know in order to answer but I use 9.10, gnome 2.28.1, the video card is a Hauppauge 150 PVR something.

Running Lucid - was an LTS upgrade from 8.04.
I have a usb webcam (off brand). When installed, /dev/video0 is properly created and I can access the webcam through cheese as a regular user.
Code:
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 81, 0 2010-12-31 16:00 /dev/video0
The regular user is already a member of the video group, and I have checked all permissions under System->Admin->User/Groups->Advanced.
However, when as this regular user, I go to a website that tries to access my webcam via flash (ie, chatroulette or omegle), it does not detect the cam. (Firefox 3.6.13 with Flash 10)
I've already set the LD_PRELOAD as suggested elsewhere.
HOWEVER, if I LD_PRELOAD and run Firefox as root, all works fine and the flash plugin sees the webcam.

I have 3 old video capture cards which I would like to use for CCTV. Each card supports 1 camera. So I would like to have 3 cameras setup in the end and monitor them with zoneminder. When each card is plugged in on it's own, it works fine. Video comes through clearly with xawtv and zoneminder. However as soon as I plug in a 2nd card (with or without a camera connected) the output in xawtv and zoneminder goes haywire. It looks like the 2nd card takes over the first card, resulting in majority of the picture coming from the 2nd card, and some (if any) from the 1st card. When viewing either of the two cards /dev/video0 or /dev/video1 in xawtv the output is identical. I've tried this on a fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install, and on an older MythTV debian computer, the same results. Here are lspci -vv outputs with 2 combinations of cards (same fuzzy output):
[URL]
My thoughts are because the capture cards are cheap (similar to winmodems), the problem may be in the software kernel modules not allowing room for other similar capture cards to run at the same time. Can anyone suggest me in the right direction? Do I need to setup some sort of memory allocation for each card manually? Something in the BIOS? An extra option when the card modules are loaded?

Last week my uncle gave me a Logitech webcam (According to lsusb: Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Ultra Vision). It works fine in my 32 bit Debian install but in my 64 bit install, nothing works with it. Heres the issues I get:
Skype: Simply will not use it but can detect it
Cheese: Segmentation faults immediately
eViacam: Can't detect it
VLC: Detects it and can use it but almost everything is completely gray
v4lucp: Gets several errors relating to things like color, brightness, contrast, etc
I have just about everything related to v4l and v4l2 installed, including 32 bit libraries. Why is this webcam so "defective" in 64 bit if its actually listed as /dev/video0?
