I'm having a little issue managing my iphone on archlinux+kde. This is the only way I got it to sync.
sudo killall usbmuxd
sudo usbmuxd -f -v
And then the only program that recognices the device is Clementine and it works quite fine. What I'd like to do is to make that automaticaly, so I wouldn't have to do it everytime i turn on my computer.
What software should i use to put in/out apps from/to Iphone...

All i know about the difference between Slackware and Arch is the stability, i.e. Slackware is more stable than Arch !
Is that all or there is some other difference which should be considered ?

I installed Archlinux yesterday on my Aspire One netbook. I installed fluxbux window manager with the ROX file manager/desktop manager.Everything was working fine until I was walking through a guide to set up the Fn keysto use the keyboard hotkeys for changing the brightness and audio settings here: [URL]I used xmodmap to set additional short cuts. Every since, I can't use my keyboard when I run 'startx'. My laptop touch mouse is working but I noticed the cursor speed has slowed down drasticly since I input the above changes.
I tried putting in 'setxkbmap no' in my ~/.xinitrc, 'no' was the language which is set up in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and was working before. I also reverted to a back-up of my xorg.conf which I had saved a few hours before, which also didn't work.What could the problem could be here? How can I ensure my keyboard is being properly initialise when I start up Xorg/fluxbox?
My MBP fails to boot Arch. This is what I did to install ArchLinux. Install rEFIT.
Partition using disk utility such that first one is Mac partition, second is Arch & the third ie the last one is windows.
Then put Windows 7 CD, select it from rEFIT and install it. Similar, install ArchLinux just as I did for windows.
Then finally to install the GRUB, I issued the command $grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/arch - recheck /dev/sda3 (after mounting my /dev/sda3 to /mnt/arch).
This is the exact error and then it drops to recovery:

I just narrowly passed another exam on UNIX Academy. Their DVDs are incredible. While I made some mistakes here and there.I was really stumbled upon a question that was formulated something like "SNMP for managing Linux machines remotely".I can't remember the exact definition. I'm not sure what it was about.I was under impression that SNMP it is a carrier protocol for commands like "ping" and "traceroute". I was trying to read about it online but it is way too broad and technical, they're loosing me on very first page. I suspect there's some kind of product or technology that uses SNMP in some way to handle Linux, I'm not sure.

The problem is that the language list is huge, what makes switching between the languages difficult. There are more than 20 types of English spelling and 3 Duch spellings (see the screen-shot).

I would eventually like to modify the mod_auth_mysql.c source code so I can append a salt/padding to the end of the hashes (that mod_auth_mysql reads from the database), but I will be happy if I can just install the damn thing.

2. Scheduling backup of some mount points with rsycn to store data in remote hard disk
3. User and group administration, with sudo access.
4. Creating and Managing Xen Virtual machines and giving access to other project teams.
5. Automating some tasks with Shell Scripting.
6. Managing FTP server for user uploads.
I have practiced a lot in my home laptop without RHEL training, Cleared RHCE and LPIC1. I want to do some advanced system admin tasks, but do not have option in my current data centre. With Above skills is it possible to get a job ?

My FC13 installation works fine. I use SquirrelMail no problem, and have also used emacs's Rmail for sending and getting mail. I'd like to be able to use my iPhone use my server for sending and retrieving mail, but I guess I just don't understand what's required. For example, I add a new account on my iphone for an imap account and add the host name under incoming and outgoing mail server, but the account verification just times out. I can't send or receive mail. Clearly there's more to it than I understand. Is there a setup guide somewhere or can someone advise how to set this up?

I've just come back to Linux running Ubuntu 11.04 and need to find an app to manage files on an iPhone 4. When I connect via usb I can open a file browser window and see the folders on the iPhone but not the files. Also the system suggests using the photo manager and banshee to view the files but when I open them I still can't see the files. Can anyone recommend an app to open, view and manage files on an iPhone?

Following the Grub2 tutorials I have tried editing /etc/grub.d/40_custom as follows:-

But no luck. Only way into Archlinux is to get into the edit shell and manually add the missing line and remove other stuff not needed. I have spent hours trying to resolve this issue and I am fairly p----d off
I am triple-booting the OS mentioned above. I only recently decided to try Arch. The issue however is with Arch & Ubuntu. My hard drive contains a common swap partition for Ubuntu and Arch, the home directories of both Linux, the C: drive for WinXP and a partition called 'Share' which as the name suggests I use to keep all the files (work, music, vids etc.) that I want to share between the various OS.
Till before Arch, I could easily share files between Ubuntu and WIndows. It seems it was possible because Windows does not respect the file permission restrictions, or may be not at least the ones imposed by Ubuntu. However now that I have Arch on a partition, Arch can not read the files owned by my user on the ntfs partition. This basically blocks my access to everything on the Arch system except for the system files.
I would like to know how I can securely share my files between the too Linux. If it is advisable and also if it is secure. For the workaround, I am not worried about using the cli, however one shall have to be patient with me since I am not a veteran at Linux.
How do I determine what graphics card I am using in Linux? In windows it's no problem, but I don't know how to determine such things as a) what hardware am I using? and b) what driver am I using? After determining which hardware my display is using, what is the best way to manage the drivers to ensure i'm using the most up to date version?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a program to manage my music, and if I keep using Banshee, I'm likely to break something in my house. All I want to do is edit file tags (like genre, artist, and album title) - but it won't let me do that. I can't edit the files directly - first I have to get them into the "library", and in order to do that, I can't drag and drop them - it forces me to actually open up the files (which plays them, and sticks them smack into the middle of the "library", and I then have to go searching/scrolling through the whole thing in order to locate them and then finally edit them). And after all this, spending like 4 hours doing all this, I find out that IT DIDN'T ACTUALLY EDIT THE FILES. It edited them in its own mind - for the duration that they were in the "library" - but it didn't make a change to the actual files.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhat I've noticed recently in file managing is that sometimes one file might fit multiple categories yet you must fit it into just one (without linking the file). It is most essential when managing an ebook library or a project library (for example have I placed a particular script under PHP_Scripts folder or CMS folder... I tend to forget).
What I'm looking for is a Tag categorization type of management for files. The PS3 file manager is a good example for this since I could make it generate folders by the artist's name, the year etc. for music files, then I would just navigate to the particular folder to find what I was looking for. Now my question is if such thing already exists as a nautilus extension or as a stand alone application... If not would you guys think it would be worth creating? If you do should it be approached as:
* A Nautilus extension? * or as a python script? For example one that creates a folder with folders in it, made up from the [nautilus] tags of the files you want to browse, then creates links of all the files [you wanted to browse] automatically to the appropriate tag folder[s] generated.
I finished a program that connects to a remote server and does some stuff there for a while. What I want to do is to run several instances of the program to have different connections at the same time, and to be able to manage those processes automatically (for example, if the connection stops, detect it and reconect).
I guess I will have to use the pid of the processes and handle them somehow but I dont really know what to do because I haven't used c++ in a while and I never went that deep. All this will be running in suse, debian and/or yellowdog distros Maybe there's a tutorial or you guys know some tool that i can use,
Currently i using webmin,but it missing some important things like $variable -where $variable would be automatically replaced with added domain,and it's kind a strange since plugin for managing other dns server on webmin does that. Also i was not able to generate 100% correct all records,only partial,which make it useless since i was need to fully replace it anyway.So can someone recommend any script/tools for it?I would be even happy with combination of batch tools(which might be even best solution since then i would not need to bother with installing script). I reckon I waste several tens of gigabytes of storage by holding unwanted copies of personal data and media files over very many partitions. Sometimes they will have identical names, dates and sizes. Other times they may be slightly different in terms of metadata but nonetheless essentially identical in respect of content. It is becoming a nightmare. Any suggestions for how best to get rid of these unwanted files?
