I'm sure both username and password are exactly right. But I can not access the folder. Only when I check "Allow guest user access" it will allow me to access my data, Which is not secure enough for me.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi had just edited a picture in digikam that was going to be my new desktop wallpaper.when i went into system/preferences/appearance to make the new change it would not show the new picture that i had just edited as a choice to change my new wallpaper to. then i tried closing the appearance box and it would not close.then i shut down and restarted and when i bring up the appearance box it does not let me click on anything within.also can't close it.seems like other applications are working normally.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have been running windows from ME through to Windows 7 over the years. and i must admit that because of all the flaws with the earlier versions and those wonderful little viruses that seem to show up even though your teenagers swear they didn't do anything ,have made me somewhat skilled at formatting and reinstalling the OS to the point where i have done it for several other ppl to help them out. I rather enjoy doing it actually.
and i have been a big fan of lets just call it "open source" windows software. now this ubuntu thing seems to have taken some of the fun away..
i ran the cd version of 10.10 and really liked what i saw so i installed it alongside my windows 7. naturally as luck would have it something went astray and i can no longer boot to win7. not a big deal. i was going to format and reinstall anyways. ha ha.

I am attempting to make a shared folder for people that VPN into the network. This folder needs to be accessible to windows and mac machines. So far I have the VPN through ppptd working. I just don't know how to make a folder. I feel like this should be fairly easy. I am using Lucid Lynx server edition.

I have Samba set up to access my files and I set up a recycle feature so anything deleted will get moved to a Recycled folder. (I learned this the hard way after hitting delete key by accident while browsing the shares in windows. Lost 100 GB of data)
Now it is for the most part working but the permissions on folders isn't getting set right. If I delete a file in a share I can go to Recycle bin folder and delete the file for good. But if I delete a folder I can not access that folder to delete or restore from the Recycle bin folder. I have to chmod the folder before I can do anything with it. Anything I can change to get folders deleted via windows to have the right permissions when it is moved to the Recycle bin folder?

I'm working on sharing a user's home folder using the username and password of the user's lLnux account. I noticed that home folder sharing is quite easy as I just need to change the smb.conf file to enable it. However I can't seem to login anyway. It seems that Samba keeps its own records of username and passwords. Is there a way that I can map/sync the Linux users' usernames and passwords automatically to Samba? The end result should be that whenever I add a new user or a user changes his/her Linux login password,Samba automatically changes its password as well.
