General :: GRUB Loading Error: No Such Partition
May 14, 2010I'm using an Eee netbook so i have no CD drive. I've used Linux for about a week. Someone else installed it for me using their flash drive. If I need to use a flash drive to install I will need info on how to install to a flash drive. I had it set up so i could choose windows or ubuntu at start up. logged into windows to play a game and all it brought up was.
GRUB loading.
error: no such partition
grub rescue>
Now that's all I get when I turn it on.

Aug 22, 2010I've resisted the urge to post for as long as I could. I use these forums quite often in finding answers to the numerous linux questions that I've had & found it to be a great resource. For some reason after an innocent reboot of my Fedora 12 Core system, GRUB decided it would no longer load the O/S. I was just getting a flashing _ in the top left of the screen. I thought there must be a problem with the partition table & have used the systemRescueCd to run testdisk (I have made a copy of the disk first to an image file using dd - don't worry I made sure I got the commands around the correct way!).
testdisk shows that I have a partition which is bootable & Primary, which appears to be the grub partition (I can list the files in test disk). However when I search the disk I get the following after it has found a couple of partitions. (it is an 80Gb disk)

Local techie says the hardware is good. Tried reloading Ubuntu from CD. Tried loading the unmentionable OS.

Apr 10, 2010I was and idiot and stared messing around gparted before I was ready to partition my hard drive. Consequently I messed up my partitions, and when I restarted my computer a screen comes up that reads:
GRUB loading.
error: no such partition
grub rescue> _
Have I killed my computer or is there some way I can fix it?

Mar 11, 2011I am new to linux and don't know much about it. I am currently taking a on-line class on it and seem to get stuck from time to time. I have been trying to install Konqueror on my systems. I have installed the KDEBASE3-3.5.10. However nothing shows up on my menus in GNOME. According to what I have read you can use this program on either of the GUI's. Not sure what details are needed, but below are some.
1) Quad core AMD Processor
2) Fedora 13
3) Kernel Linux 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i686
4) Using Gnome GUI.

I can only use konqueror (asus eeepc 701) to completely view kneetest.html . The image taimoshan-front-qtr.jpg does not show, but if I right click and save, I can view the jpg. I was able to see this jpg earlier in the day, but not now. I've wget'd the site about 5 or 6 times in a day and sometimes I'll miss 2 images. I've also tried without the -U Mozilla option. BTW: Is there a way to get Mozilla to read files from wget?

Jan 7, 2011I'm trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my computer (yes...I know version 10 is out...I will get it when I get this version installed).Here's my dilemma, I get through all the way to the partition. I don't have Windows on the computer, so check the button labeled something like "Whole Disk" or something along those lines. So, after a while (about 1+ hour), it all of a sudden turns into a black screen with the "running" mouse on top of it. The screen isn't frozen, the mouse is still moving, and it sounds like the computer is still "chugging" away

Very helpful for certain offline tasks. What would make it even better is if i could find a way to pass some data to that local process from the html page. The problem that I have is that I have a large amount of usb drives that have a partition table of type "loop" and I need to change them to "msdos". The size of the drives vary and I need to use FAT32 or FAT16 file system.
I've tried various partitioning commands and gui applications but cant find one that I can give a one line command to to set the partition table, maximum partition size and file system.

May 4, 2011I got a new hard disk for my laptop and I want to move my Gentoo installation from old HDD to new.
Most simple guides recommend use of dd to copy the whole partition byte by byte.
I'm moving to the new drive because I don't have enough space on the old drive, so I don't want to simply clone the partition. Instead I need the destination partition to be bigger. Would dd work well in that case?
Assuming that I use same partition types on the new drive, would I be able to use simple cp with appropriate settings?

However, I end up with a file in my home directory called .minecraft and when I try to access it, I receive:

Jun 2, 2010extended sata partition shrunk at 15 partition limit, how to re-enlarge i hit the 15 partition limit, forgetting it now exists for sata drives, thinking i would add more. upon creation of the 15th, it squished the end of the extended partition to meet the last logical partition, leaving a large unallocated portion after the extended partition, which seemingly nothing can be done with, just sat being wasted space. i have since deleted a few of those partitions, but so far have still failed to find a way to recoup the unallocated space back into the extended partition.

if necessary, i'll do it the painful long winded way of backing up and starting the extended partition again from scratch, but i really rather wouldnt have to do that. i'm sure there must be a way of telling the extended partition to once again reach the end of the drive.

Oct 30, 2010I've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for just under a week. Recently, a partition called 'Data' has disappeared, and all my music and documents along with it. The folder is not to be seen in Places or on my desktop. My only way of finding it is to go to terminal. But when I try to open it there I get an error saying I don't have permission to read it. In Puppy Linux and SliTaz I can easily find the partition and read it. What should I do to bring it back in Ubuntu?

May 17, 2011I have the following problem with konqueror. Eveytime when I am trying to enter https://localhost:10000 (this is webmin) or https://localhost:631, konqueror asks me in a popup the following (translated from german):
"The authentification of the server has failed.The certificate does not suite to the server. The certificate has not been signed by a trustable authentification authority"
Then I press "continue". Then the next popup appears asking me: "Do you want to always accept this certificate without any request" And the possible buttons are "always" or "only this session". The problem is that I always press on "always" but obviously konqueror is not remembering this certificate since I have to press all the buttons a hundred times in the ongoing session and every new session. In firefox, I was only asked once and the certificate was stored in list. Does anyone know how to fix this problem in konqueror??
