View 1 RepliesI am trying to make a liveUSB(my DVD drive run out monthes ago), I use this iso image: openSUSE-11.1-KDE4-Reloaded-LiveCD.x86_64-4.3.1-Build4.1.iso I just cp the file in the iso into the usb, and cp the L : ootx86_64loader*.* into my usb, mv the isolinux.cfg into syslinux and run with syslinux command to install the bootloader. and boot with my usb drive, get Error: .. Loading device nodes with udev Boot logging started on.
... No devices matches MBR identifier: 0x5b265f15 reboot Exception: error console at Alt - F3/F4 ...
Question may be stupid, but I have LiveCD image to boot from, and I do not want to buy cd-rw or cd-r, I want to write it on DVD, but it looks like I have to convert structure CD to DVD, because I need to boot from it. K3B refuse to burn LiveCD to DVD disk.

I have been having a problem with K9 Copy whenever I try to convert a DVD to MPEG files using the method without encoding, but for some reason lately it seems to be splitting each episode into about 6 or 7 pieces instead of just one. I never usually have a problem with this, but for some reason it seems to be doing this whenever I try to rip something. On a side note, I am running on Obuntu 9.10 and have K9Copy version 2.3.0 installed. I have tried installing several other versions, but it does the same thing with each.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running 10.10 64-bit and am trying to get an option in WinFF to convert an MPEG file to an iPod compatible video. All of the HOT_TO guides I could find involve installing the FFmpeg libraries, which I have done as well as I could have. The problem is that within WinFF, I don't see anything different in the "Convert To ..." drop-down. The Wiki I am reading tells me to select iPod, but this isn't available. What do I need to do to get this to be selectable?

Why i need this ?
We need to play some HD videos (in wmv format) under linux on our school computers and so i need some Linux Live CD Distro (not dvd please only CD) that we can easily get this task done.
I need aufs support/patch for kernel 2.6.34.1 as i i need to create a live linux distro for my organization and linux live scripts (the scripts which I am using for creating live linux distro) require aufs and squashfs support. There is a directive for squashfs in kernel configuration file but nothing for aufs and the patch available at linux-live site seems not to work.

I'm trying to rescue files from an Iomega NAS device that seems to be corrupted. This is the Storcenter rack-mount server - four 1tb drives, celeron, 1gb, etc. I'm hoping there's a live distro that would allow me to mount the RAID volume in order to determine if my files are accessible. Ubuntu 10.10 nearly got me there but reported "Not enough components available to start the RAID Array".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to put both the 32-bit and 64-bit OSS 11.3 onto a 2GB usb stick from their respective Live CD ISOs. I tried to make a partitions on the usb ( 1GB ) each, and then dd each ISO to separate partitions, make 1 of the partition bootable. But that doesn't work, even from the bootable partition. Any suggestions how to achieve that goal? Ideally there would be a main boot loader, which then provides option to boot each of the distro.

View 14 Replies View RelatedOn a Linux CD/DVD, there are compressed filesystem images for the live version for KDE or Gnome for example, but they have no extension, but they are clearly an image file ( compressed filesystem images for the live version before installation ) !!
I was wondering, How do I mount these compressed filesystem images, after I copy the ISO content of the CD/DVD on my system .... I want to edit some files or packages and make some changes, like if I want to customize a live version of gnome for example ! ... ( I know you might be tempted to tell me to use KIWI etc to customize etc ..... ) ... but I want to be able to mount the compressed file system image, then edit it for reading and writing while it is in a subdirectory on its own ... i want to open it ! ... is there a way to do this ??? ... these type of files have no extension ...
i can open this compressed filesystem image then to edit for read & write ... before I roll it back again ..... If and when I succeed .... what should I watch out for ? ... will the same compressed file image but slightly modified work again ?
PS. that same question could be kind of translated or be extended like : how do I use unionfs/squashfs programs on the command line to mount these image files with no extension for read & write mode ???
I've NEVER had a single problem in any distro with my Sound Blaster Live (Yeah; it's old school but works). However, my brand new install of Debian Squeeze (minimal with LXDE) is giving me crap. Alsa is up and running and some reason it doesn't want to use my SBLive... It's STUCK on my X-Fi card. Before you say take the XFi out; it's my Win 7 card.. I need to have it and don't want to have to pull it all the time...
Is there any other file like alsaconf? I don't know where to start. Maybe someone can shed some light of where I should go to attack this problem. I've never had an issue in ubuntu, fedora, freeBSD never gave me trouble. I usually simply use alsamixer to switch and never have an issue.
I'm building a cheap htpc for my garage so I can watch the news, listen to music and browse a few car forums when needed. Here are the specs I am looking at:

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W
500GB sata2 or 32gb ssd drive
Will Ubuntu be able to use a ssd? If so this box can pull movies in from my server. Which distro will play movies, watch live tv, and play music the best on the specs I provided?
