I am in process to install oracle 10g on said OS.My process fails and after digging up , I came to know that some of the oracle libraries are compiled on 32-bit architecture and it require glibc-32 bit . also it require for gcc-32 bit.
Now i have downloaded all the required rpm for gcc-32bit . when I try to install glibc and its dependencies , it gives me error that newer version already exist.
How can I install , Gcc-32bit(libgc, libstd-i386 etc) in parallel or standalone?
Installing f10 on an x86_64 platform from CD or netinst. I can't seem to find a way to have it install i386 compatible (32-bit) software at the same time. Is there a repo that has to be enabled? In f8 i think it was just a box to click somewhere.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a PXE/kickstart installation system running ok. I would like to build a custom installation x86_64 .iso with the i386 .rpms removed. Currently I install from the standard x86_64 iso, then go and remove the i386 rpm's with all the attendant problems and impact on docs etc. Has anybody tried this? Is it as simple as just deleting *i386.rpm and then building another .iso from the resultant installation tree?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed CentOS on a 64 bit machine, I selected the 64 bit option. However, for some reason it installed many i386 packages - these were exact duplicates of installed x86_64 packages.Is this typical? How do I prevent this on future installs? If I left them installed, could this have caused a problem in the future? Due to my fastidious nature, I used yum extender to uncheck every duplicate i386 package and uninstalled them. This took some time. I am still not proficient with yum directly so I am wondering if there is a command to uninstall all i386 packages quickly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my x86_64 system from FC8 to FC10 using Pre-Upgrade. (related blog link) It appears that the upgrade process installed a steaming pile of i386 packages that are duplicates of existing x86_64 packages. I now get update errors because of this package clash. I have searched the fora and the most progress I've been able to make so far is: I apparently had 8 unfinished yum transactions so I did yum-complete-transaction 8 times and have no more incomplete transactions.
The output of package-cleanup --dupes is not very helpful:

I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my machine, and cannot get it to find my Hiro H50191 (which runs on realtek drivers) wireless usb. I run strictly wireless, with no way to run an ethernet cable directly into the computer, unless i can somehow use my shared network off of an old Dell laptop running XP.

(Just about when X starts) Maybe my hardware isn't supported yet or something but I can't find out. I don't find any anaconda log-file or anything to give me a clue what goes wrong.

There is no Ethernet (or wireless) connectivity for my new Dell N7010 with Fedora 13 64-bit. The drivers do not appear to be installed. Right now, the goal is to get the Ethernet controller (Atheros Communications AR8152 v1.1 Fast Ethernet) running. I have tried to install the AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13, but the tarball gives an error when attempting to extract it:
"tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors"
I also tried the compat-wireless-2.6 which also gave errors when trying to do a make:
"make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64/build: No such file or directory. Stop.

I've installed the drivers from nVidia. When I go into the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, in the X Server Display Configuration setcion, and click the "Configure" button, "TwinView" is disabled. Also, clicking "Detect Displays" doesn't pick up my monitor (which is connected through a port replicator - keyboard and mouse in that port replicator work fine).
Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a limitation of the current nvidia linux drivers?
Linux (CentOS, Red Hat, Ubuntu) operating systems can't recognize my laptop keyboard, and I'm unable to work with it any more. It had been fine but I don't know what's happened to it now. Note that it works correctly in Windows.

The laptop is configured to boot from the USB ports before booting from the optical drive and then the hard drive. The software I am trying to install is Fedora 15 x86_64. I want to perform the install using a USB drive. I do not want to use DVD media.
how to create minimal boot media as detailed here: [URL] Using dd, efidisk.img has been transferred to a 256MB USB disk. efidisk.img is about 103MB so it fits. I figured this USB drive would boot and take me to a command prompt of some sort but nothing happens. I see activity on the USB drive (flashing light) but then it stops and the laptop boots from the hard drive which currently has Windows on it.
There is $&*# for information on installing to a UEFI system. I don't even know if this efidisk.img USB drive is supposed to present me with a command prompt and from there I can kick off the Fedora installer from another, larger USB drive or the network or whatever. I really don't want to go back to optical media. Also, I burned the F15 x86_64 ISO to a DVD and that DVD does boot. I did not think the stock Fedora DVD version would boot on a UEFI system.

I have ubuntu loaded on my Dell as the only operating system. It was working fine. I would just keep it on all the time, so if there was a problem with it booting previously, I wouldn't have known about it. I recently installed long overdue updates, and when I restarted the computer, it wasn't able to boot. I've tried several times, and I always get the same black screen with white text, and a message it gives me. I'll put that message below the dotted line on this post. There was a series of numbers in there, but I'm not posting those just in case it would be a security risk (not sure if it's a code or something).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 desktop and burned the CD. I changed the boot order on my Dell Inspiron 8100 to search for CD first. On startup, I see it flash - ISO LINUX something ............ The light flashes on my CD drive for a minute or so. I see a little icon at bottom of screen with a stick figure of a man and something else for a few seconds, then I see a white cloud flash on the screen that reduces in size and disappears, after another minute or so of the drive light flashing everything stops and still a black screen. Then, I tried hitting escape key a couple of times and I heard a few seconds of jungle music. The drive light flashes again for a while but nothing else happens. It seems like it's almost there, but not making it all the way for some reason.
By the way, if it matters, my Dell hard drive is partitioned to C: and D: I thought it would run a little faster that way, but not really noticable. I have most everything on C: right now. I hope to install side by side as I have a couple of applications I need Windows for, but would like to use Ubuntu for everything else. More questions about that later, on getting it to boot from the CD?
Since posting the above earlier under Dell, I have been able to boot from a borrowed 9.04 disk okay. And, was able to boot another computer with the 10.04 disk that I burned. The disk is apparently good, so why doesn't 10.04 work and 9.04 does?
I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron n7110 and am trying to install ubuntu 10.04 lts on it.

I am using CentOS 5, I have recently installed it on my Dell LATITUDE laptop but the resolution was 800x600. I've tried to put it on 1680x1050 and it worked out well I guess but the graphics had become very slow. For example I have to wait 5 to 6 seconds to scroll from page to page in a pdf file. Minimizing a window takes also a lot of time. I have a NVIDIA card in my PC.
