General :: WINE GNOME Menus Won't Show Up After Re-install Of WINE?

Dec 18, 2009

Lot of questions about WINE... When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done. The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

General :: Make Slitaz USB Automatically Persistent?

Mar 24, 2010

I installed Slitaz on my USB. However I can't figure out how to make it persistent automatically. There are different sources telling me different ways to make it persistent.

One told me to add "slitaz home=usb" to the syslinux.cfg file like this:

append initrd=/boot/rootfs.gz rw root=/dev/null vga=normal autologin slitaz home=usb

but it didn't work for me.

http://www.slitaz.org/en/doc/handbook/liveusb.html gave an example of how to do it manually but I didn't try it and I also want it to happen automatically.

custompc.co.uk/features/602451/make-any-pc-your-own-with-linux-on-a-usb-key.html is an older article that also explains how to make the USB persistent but I don't want to try it cause it looks outdated (from 2008)

does anyone know the best way to make the USB automatically persistent?

General :: Adding CIFS Support To Ophcrack (SliTaz)

Oct 1, 2010

I've used linux for basic things in the past but I'm afraid I need to recompile a kernel and I don't even know where to get started. There's so much information on google and I'm not familiar with the terminology to even know how to effectively search for what I'm looking for.

Basically, I'm loading Ophcrack via TFTP/PXE, but I want to be able to mount one of the shares on my samba server instead of it looking for a /tables/ folder on the current device. I already know how to modify the launch.sh script to get it to do what I want, however I'm stuck on how to mount a samba share through CIFS.

Code:
modprobe mount.cifs
returns that the module is not loaded or is not found. Is there a way to add mount.cifs?

Code:
su
root
mkdir -p /mnt/tables/
mount -t cifs //10.10.2.3/pxeboot/ophcrack/tables/XP/ /mnt/tables/
Doesn't work either. I'm kinda stuck.

I have a Slitaz 3.0 install on a UBB stick (via tazusb). It uses the cooking version. After a boot, all seems to be working except for the keyboard. Not a good start. Nothing wrong with the keyboard (typing this in Ubuntu and no probs in XP) so must be something wrong in Slitaz.

Hardware :: Make A Webcam Work On Slitaz 2.0?

Feb 10, 2010

I'm trying to make a webcam work on my Slitaz 2.0.

Busybox

I tested the webcam on my Mandriva 2010 and it works just fine with UVCvideo so i decided to compile UVCVideo for the slitaz Kernel.

I downloaded the files, then uncompressed them. I cheched my kernel source and gcc,make,.... utilities. Then I typed make and ....

There was an error with an ln command in v4l/Makefile in the following line:

General :: How To Install Notepad++ Via WINE On Ubuntu

Dec 14, 2010

Firstly, I'll say that I have scanned the internet far and wide and am not looking for the responses that many new linux users with an affinity for notepad++ almost invariably received... "use this linux based INE or this one or download plugins for this other one"... No, sir. I miss notepad++. I moved to linux land, (exiled from windows for having an expired VISA) and I'll do anything to get her to move here with me.

I downloaded the npp.5.8.5.Installer.exe... I have wine installed... I have no idea what directory or where in god's name this .exe exists or if i have to query wine or what.

I'm also going to want to install itunes as well. That's not as important, but if the commands are similar I figure I might as well aim to request the killing of two birds with one.

General :: Microsoft Install Via Wine - INF Driver?

Apr 10, 2011

I'm still a bit green at Linux - not enough that the terminal scares me, but I still need to figure out with my 'networking' which programs do what. I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like. Anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end.

General :: Install Wine Without Being Conected To The Internet?

Apr 10, 2010

I want to switch over to Unbutu 9.10 and I intend to run some .exe files on it. But to do that I need to install Wine. Unfortunately the only way I found to do that requires being connected to the internet in Unbutu. And I can connect to internet only by pluging in a modem and running executable file afterwards which is something I can't currently do with Unbutu.

General :: Install/Uninstall ITunes With WINE

Sep 1, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my husband's laptop. He insists that I install iTunes. Wine comes with the 10.04 release. I downloaded iTunes 9.2.1.5(32x) and it appeared to install ok. It said it was successful. However, immediately upon the 'installation successful' notification, another window popped up that said, "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Whenever I try to open iTunes, this error message pops up. I used the WINE uninstall option for iTunes, however, the window pops up giving the option to either repair or uninstall, and when I click uninstall it appears to go through the process and even says it did - only to discover the fine print telling me that it "installed" the program sucessfully. This is very frustrating. I cannot seem to get the program to uninstall.

I found a thread that said to delete the files manually, but I don't know how to do this. I need to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it and make it work.

Networking :: Can't Get Wireless Working In Slitaz (Asus Aspire ZG5, Atheros Wifi)?

Sep 17, 2010

So I decided to wipe out Windows and try Slitaz. It's an awesome well featured distro for it's size. One huge problem tho: I can't get wireless to work for the life of me. I actually went as far as to manually load the ath5k module but It just refuses to recognize my wireless router, much less any nearby routers. It simply doesn't see anything when it scans for wireless networks. I have no problem with that in Puppy Lucid. But I'd really like to use Slitaz, just for it's small size and quick bootup. Can anyone PLEASE help me with that?

PS: It happened here before that I had to plea and beg for any response, so PLEASE(!!) don't let me hang like that this time.

Server :: SSH Into Initramfs On Headless SliTaz Server?

Dec 24, 2010

I've installed SliTaz Linux onto a headless server with the following partition scheme:

/dev/hdb1 ext3 main system
/dev/hdb2 ext3 currently empty
/dev/hdb3 swap

I would like to further configure this machine so that (1) a VirtualBox virtual machine is automatically started during boot with no user intervention, and (2) /dev/hdb1 /dev/hdb2 are encrypted with LUKS or the like.

Because /dev/hdb1 and /dev/hdb2 will be encrypted, I will need to decrypt them with my passphrase during boot. But since this will be a headless server, I need to SSH in before the main OS loads, i.e. I probably need to SSH into initramfs? So far, I've found (1) VBoxTool which starts a virtual machine during boot, and (2) and early-ssh which installs dropbear SSH server into initramfs. However, since all my partitions (/dev/hdb1, /dev/hdb2) will be encrypted, I need to decrypt them before the boot process can continue after initramfs. This seems to imply that I need to modify the initramfs process so that I can (1) login via early-ssh mentioned above, (2) enter my decryption passphrase, then (3) let the normal boot process continue. Therefore, my question is: how do I find and edit my initramfs so that I can add the needed decryption tools (what are they?) and be prompted to enter my passphrase via SSH during boot?

Debian :: Can't Remove Wine - Apt-get Bricked - Could Not Perform Immediate Configuration On 'wine-unstable'

Feb 16, 2011

while trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :

dpkg -i wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb

The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :

dpkg -i --force-depends wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb

This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details.
