I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way- 1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.
I just installed gewsense on my dell studio xps. I have a dual boot with windows vista. Problem is I cant get the internet to work via lan or wireless. I have read it could be incompatibility with my hardware but wanted to know what can I do to troubleshoot and resolve.
I came to know about namebench tool while working on a setup of DNS server, test results showed some servers working pretty fast. After investigating different options and many tests i managed to keep a good rank of DNS slave server. The idea was to keep checking available fastest DNS servers in the region and modify named.conf accordingly. As many of us are not building a DNS server, I am not going to discuss it in details here, however in case you are using some flavour of GNU/Linux, UNIX you can use following method to have a faster internet experience.
To have it accomplished we are going to use namebench, cron and a small script. namebench looks for the fastest DNS (Domain Name System) servers accessible to your computer.

I have been having difficulty with my BT Broadband over the last few weeks, it has now been resolved, but I can no longer connect to either my home network or the internet from my laptop though when I re-installed windows 7 the connection was automatic. I can see the link but can't connect.I also dual boot Vista with Mint 8 Helena on my desktop box and cannot connect Helena to either the network or the internet. My router is a BTHomeHub2 and it was recently suggested that it could be being blocked by BT!
