General :: Finding An Email Client Optimized For Screen Readers And Accessibility?

I'm currently working on a project to help visually impaired people. We're planning to use Orca screen reader for gnome. Everything is doing great but there is a problem with email web clients the most popular ones(gmail, yahoo, hotmail) are not optimized for screen readers. Is there some kind of simple email client optimized for this? Need to be very simple and straight foward and support multiple users too.40
In my Windows environment, I use email client such as Microsoft Outlook to connect to our email server to send email with the following configuration:
Incoming server (POP3): 995 - (requires with SSL) Outgoing server (SMTP): 465 - (use encrypted connection SSL)

And the mail server requires user ID login and password.how do I setup a text command based email client in my Linux (Centos 5.1) to send out email through the existing email server above, which is in another machine? The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.
we had a server with Hostway, and it was running ubuntu. The server also had Plesk installed, which did some funny things. We had several websites on that server, and many email addresses. Then we changed servers. Now we have a server through Rackspace and it is also running Ubuntu. It also has Virtualmin installed, which generally does not impose as many unconventional changes on Ubuntu as Plesk did.
Rather than using Thunderbird to download my email (which is what I used to do) I've decided I'll start reading my email on the server. So I will ssh to the server and then use some email client, such as Alpine, to read the email. So I installed Alpine. I have an email account for "lawrence". The email address is lawrence @ krubner. Currently, when mail arrives for that account, it is stored here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it is transferred to hear:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
When I start Alpine, while logged in as lawrence, Alpine automatically sets up an inbox for me here:
/home/lawrence/mail/
How do I get Alpine (or any other client) to read from the correct folder? I'm fairly sure the email package (the MTA) at work on this new server is Postfix. As near as I can tell, my email is held for 24 hours in this folder:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it gets transferred here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
Alpine only lets me set one path for my Inbox, so I'm not sure what path I should set. If I use "cur" I will see all email 1 day late, but if I use "new" then I will miss email if I go a day without checking.
I switched to Ubuntu a couple weeks ago, and I like it very much. The only problem I've got is I can't subscribe to podcasts as I used to with iTunes. Is there a podcast client like iTunes for Windows?
I'm following [URL] to build a mail server running postfix virtual. The server is now running able to send and receive mails. But remote mail client 'Evolution' can't login the server to send/receive mails. # tail /var/log/mail.log

Still fail: "Login authentication" and "plain authentication" same result.
I have a server (RHEL 4.7) with an mqueue that keeps growing over a two or three day interval. Then I have to manually flush the queue by removing all the mail in the spool directory as the sendmail flush command doesn't work. I've looked at the mail queue manually with a sendmail -bp command and it seems to show an occaisional mail item in the queue. On the other hand, there seems to be a lot more non-legitimate emails in the queue spool. how do I find out the source of the email in the main queue? Next, how do I stop it from building the queue? Next, is there anyway to automatically flush the queue once it builds if I need to?
I currently have a NAS (Ubuntu 10.04) on my network without an access to a monitor due to a lack of a graphics card. I noticed that every time I restart the NAS, it's been taking longer to fully restart. I suspect that something might be wrong, and the warning or error messages are being displayed during startup.
Is there a log file that Ubuntu prints to for everything that is displayed from the moment the system starts up until the login screen? I have email set up on the system via .mailrc and .mstmprc where I could email out with the mail command. I would like to email myself the log file every time the system starts up so I can monitor the system's health.
I just installed RSS feed reader application Liferea as it said the best in GNOME linux. But the problem is that i can't see any ..... or flash videos in that, though it presents in website. It just left space instead of video. At-least it is not directing me to ...... If i see any large space i am going to website to watch the video. Its quit a bit difficult.
I am looking for an easy to use svn client for linux.I have been suggested to use kdesvn. The problem with that client is that there are a few things that I do not understand.
In kdesvn there is the Subversion->Ceneral->check out repository and there is also the File->open,
1) what is the difference between these two?
2) Also is there a way every time I launch kdesvn to have the same repository loaded in the same working directory?
3) When I change something into a file should I do file or whole folder commit? I am not sure what will be the best based on that I only write one comment which in the first case associates with the file only and in the latter associates with the whole folder.
I am looking for an email client with the following specifications. I have trialled most of the commonly recommended clients but have found ongoing irritations that push me to keep looking.

Evolution matches 5, 6 and 9. The program is a good general client but slow and glitchy. Can't scan for viruses in emails. Kmail matches 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Does most of what I need with the powertools plugin but does not play well with Gnome. The program comes with too many dependencies that makes it very hard to move data around or even use on various machines. The dependence on the akonadi server is quite frustrating and makes this kde application a great product but only really useful on kde. Thunderbird matches 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9. Again reasonably comprehensive but lacks the basic ability to scan incoming emails (filters can pipe incoming data to an external program). The fact that the mail is intrinsically linked with your Mozilla profile makes working with the email file very difficult.
Clawsmail matches 1, 2 (old version), 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 (Windows Port old and not maintained) and 9. Looks good but appears to lack portability and a current windows version. I want to check my mail (predominantly POP accounts), have spam and viruses set aside/deleted/quarantined, have my attachments saved to a directory so my mailbox does not get too big and for the emails and configuration data be stored in a distinct directory that can be readily synchronized between computers. The program should be able to run on Ubuntu and Windows XP/Vista/7, on the same data once the data directories are synchronized. And no, I don't want an Internet based option like gmail or yahoo.
Our office has been using davical with Ubuntu Server 9.10 and it is working fine with Thunderbird 3.x and was working fine with Evolution but recently it has stopped working in Evolution and was wondering if anyone else is having the same issue? We have the most up to date version of davical on our server at this time.
I'm a Linux newbie and for my new job I have to do a lot of instant messaging to clients. They are on a variety of services, aim, icq, msn, myspace, facebook, yahoo, Google Talk, jabber, and .mac/ichat Is there a good instant messaging client that covers most of these on one application? I am using Mandriva with KDE 4.2.
I am running debian testing, amd64 architecture on my box. I have 3 gmail accounts that I use regularly. I have used mainly thunderbird/icedove to access my mailboxes via imap.However, now two of them have really several tens of thousands of emails I often experience difficulties in dealing with them (the connection often freezes, browsing my folders is a pain).I tried also sylpheed and claws, but the situation has not really improved.I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong in the way I configured my accounts on the various clients (actually, some of them even boast automatic setup of gmail accounts).
I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on laptop behind XP and Win7. No problems at all so far. Even got wireless to work (awesomeness). But trying to set up the email program it continues to say there's a problem. I'm trying to use Hotmail. And the way the email wizard? is set up it's a little off for me. I'm not too experienced with Ubuntu, or Linux for that matter. Mainly a Microsoft OS user. give me the info on setting up the email client to work with Hotmail?
I received a suspect E mail from paypal which I reported to them, I did'nt click on anything in the E mail. The Question I am asking is there any way that some one could get in to my email client Thunderbird or Firefox. When I used thunderbird to report the e mail I received a problem reporting that my email couldn,t be sent due to AOL smpt not excepting email because of ssl encrpyption. I checked the settings for the account all seemed ok ssl was still marked. Also while I was on the internet yesterday I got the popup regarding did I want to save a "file" I canceled as I didn,t click anything to download anything.
I'm looking for an application for Linux that will connect to an H.323 video conference and allow the user to send their desktop as a video stream, instead of using the image from a webcam. This is for giving presentations, when it is usually more useful to see the speaker's slides than their face.
All I have found so far is Ekiga, but as far as I can see it doesn't offer this facility. Something free would be nice of course, but paid-for software would also be of interest.
Web Browsers and email clients unable to access the Internet. Able to get software and updates with no problem.
The IVP6 setting is ignored in the Network Configuration. I have triggered it both ways. As for the firewall configuration, well it freezes at the splash screen when invoked.
Fedora 12 is the first spin, since Fedora 9, that I was able to get any updates. Versions 10 and 11 could not access the internet with anything, no matter what was attempted.
BTW, I am using Mandriva 2010 to get through here.
Just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer laptop last night. I wasn't able to surf the net at first but after searching these forums, managed to get it right (changed setting in firefox). I was able to use update manager and the software program ok (downloading and installing). I am using a adsl via wifi. Networked pcs and my NAS/samba work fine My current problem is that while I can surf the net and download updates etc, I can't seem to get email and chat working, it just gives a timeout error for some reason.
I have a very basic install of dovecot and postfix on the latest version of Ubuntu server. This is an internal only email server with internal only DNS. I can send email via clients and check said emails via the command line when logged in as the appropriate user. I cannot for the life of me check said emails via SquirrelMail on the server nor using IMAP clients. I have no idea where to look and I can't find a basic tutorial for the life of me. Where should I start?
I have configured the postix email server in Centos. Its working fine with Squirrel mail client. But If I configured in microsoft Outlook. it is working. with this post I have attached the error message. So I've tried finding a solution to this on my own for the past few days (believing it is a simple solution), but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I'm running 11.2 and I have Evolution as a start-up program and I have finally got my wireless working, so it connects automatically at start-up also. I figured out how to have network manager automatically unlock the default keyring, but...
Each time evolution starts up I am prompted to unlock the default keyring. How can I give Evolution permission / access to the default keyring automatically so it can check me email upon start-up without me having to type in my password?
Just upgraded from 10.10 to 11..04 ,personal folders in Evolution email client have disappeared. The default folders are there with old sent mails in the sent folder. Should I inform Evolution developers?
I've been using Trillian under Windoz, for one reason only - the email message-handling is amazing. Here are the features that impressed me the most with Trillian:
Check multiple email accounts + notifications (but that exists in many other clients) Preview subject line + message body teaser (this exists to some extent in Adium) Preview the above not only upon email-check, but in the client window itself or as tooltips when hovering over email-account name Email ACTIONS - right-clicking on individual messages, can perform common tasks (archive, delete, view, mark as read).
The actions available change for different protocols AUTO LOGIN-when double-clicking the account a browser window will open and automatically log me into the account That last feature is the most important one - at the moment, Pidgin/Adium/Empathy just send me to the email-account's homepage. I have (too) many email accounts, and having to enter login details to each is a pain. With Trillian, I could d-click an account, see my inbox, logout and then d-click another account - and be logged into that one... easy peasy.
Now, this is not a commercial for Trillian... really not. I just haven't found any other client that can do these things, nor have I found plugins for Empathy/Pidgin that enable this. I've been using Pidgin for now, cos it doesn't give any trouble with Skype integration (already tried the skype4empathyandpidgin, didn't work out) and has nice (not amazing) integration to the messaging menu.
A friend of mine decided it would be funny to turn on all the accessibility options at the login screen on my install of Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Because the screen's so small, half of the screen is used for magnification. The half of the screen that is now completely useless, is the half of the screen that has the accessibility options on it. I can't change them back. So I'm wondering if there's a way to disable them from the command prompt or something. I've tried the failsafe graphics, and they're even worse.
