Just upgraded from 10.10 to 11..04 ,personal folders in Evolution email client have disappeared. The default folders are there with old sent mails in the sent folder. Should I inform Evolution developers?
View 1 Replieswhen all the other messages in my inbox suddenly disappeared. I have checked all the folders in evolution and tried showing hidden message (from the view menu) while looking in each folder in case I had managed to do something really weird by mistake, but they appear to have vanished. The message I dragged over to the new folder is however there!
The other weird thing is that the trash folder has randomly partially emptied itself at the same time, and it is not set to empty itself on exiting the program.What have I done and how do I get them back??? I don't care about the trash but need the inbox messages back.
I had recently had a problem with my service provider and my system couldn't connect via the Internet. When I started Evolution, the problems started. Obviously it stalled for password confirmation from my Email accounts but I had to cancel any downloading of emails. The problem was I had to reconfigure my passwords for my email accounts, but I lost those folders that I had stored old emails in for each account. Is there a way to get these back b/c they have my passwords to some sites?

I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

When I click on the contacts button in Evolution, and then click on a particular contact (in the personal contact list), I can't seem to modify the name or email; I can click in the boxes and cursor about, but no editing; the entire panel seems to be greyed out. I have searched a bit, but have not seen this particular problem addressed.

As a check I have a netbook and the file transferred fine to that (10.04 netbook remix) -that is with all the folders.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to be able to have email sent directly to my computer at home (i.e. run some kind of mail server on it) instead of having to rely on Gmail, Yahoo or someone else. From what I've read it should be possible, but most of the guides out there seem to be oriented to enterprise-class setups, or at the very least a small business, and I think that a lot of that would be overkill for just getting my personal mail. The minimum *I think* is
- register a domain name, with the DNS pointing to my public IP (which is dynamic, so one question I have is whether I would have to use DynDNS or is DNS at any registrar going to be flexible enough to modify if/when my IP changes?)- something about MX records (I'm really unsure here, what exactly are these and where do I set them up? I don't think a free DynDNS account lets one handle this, does someone know which of their account types supports setting this up?)
- Install sendmail and postfix (which seems like a PITA, but much documentation appears to be available)
- Profit?
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwe had a server with Hostway, and it was running ubuntu. The server also had Plesk installed, which did some funny things. We had several websites on that server, and many email addresses. Then we changed servers. Now we have a server through Rackspace and it is also running Ubuntu. It also has Virtualmin installed, which generally does not impose as many unconventional changes on Ubuntu as Plesk did.
Rather than using Thunderbird to download my email (which is what I used to do) I've decided I'll start reading my email on the server. So I will ssh to the server and then use some email client, such as Alpine, to read the email. So I installed Alpine. I have an email account for "lawrence". The email address is lawrence @ krubner. Currently, when mail arrives for that account, it is stored here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it is transferred to hear:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
When I start Alpine, while logged in as lawrence, Alpine automatically sets up an inbox for me here:
/home/lawrence/mail/
How do I get Alpine (or any other client) to read from the correct folder? I'm fairly sure the email package (the MTA) at work on this new server is Postfix. As near as I can tell, my email is held for 24 hours in this folder:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it gets transferred here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
Alpine only lets me set one path for my Inbox, so I'm not sure what path I should set. If I use "cur" I will see all email 1 day late, but if I use "new" then I will miss email if I go a day without checking.
Basically it's all in the title. Birthday and anniversary dates from address books other than Personal - whether these are local or remote - do not display in the calendar. I have so far found no settings whatsoever that would trigger the expected behaviour. It would in fact be good enough if the display could be switched to other than Personal address book at all...

And the mail server requires user ID login and password.how do I setup a text command based email client in my Linux (Centos 5.1) to send out email through the existing email server above, which is in another machine? The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.
In linux version of firefox (specifically in my case Debian's rebranded Iceweasel), folders of bookmarks in the personal toolbar show a little down arrow on the right of the name. It serves no real purpouse and just takes up horizontal space, is there a way to remove it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to reload from 10.4 to 10.10. On 10.4 I had no problems with the email. Now with 10.10 I cannot get it set up. I use att/yahoo and I set up my pop 3 and stmp setting correct. It will save them but I cannot secure the one with ssh and there is no where in the wizard to store you password. In turn i cannot get my email thru evolution. And the send/recieve button is not highlighted at all. I dumped evolution and then reloaded it but still have the same issue.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been backing up onto a 60G ext2/3/4 partition on a 1TB external USB hard disk for a year or so now and have built up a few folders of .thunderbird, .mozilla, and other assorted files - using this as my standard "backup system" - but suddenly all the files and folders in this partition seem to have disappeared.
In Gparted and KParted the partition shows up as the correct size with the correct amount of "used space" (= yellow coloured portion), as it does when running offof any CD/standalone OS. And the small bars under the volume names in Dolphin show about the right amount having been "used" too.But however I try to access this partition (or, to be correct LVM I spose:-)) it still always comes up as empty - ie 0 files in it. After months of working just fine.The NTFS partition on the same external USB sdd reads and writes quite OK/normally and also shows the correct amount of "used space" - but even from root I can't see any of the old files in, or read/write to the linux one. It comes up with "Denied"/"Can't Write to.." errors when trying to write anything to it.
I ran a freeware utility called DiskInternals Linux-Recovery from winDoze which, after half an hour, came up with a list showing all the folders and files in the partition. It said that they would be written back onto the hard drive that they were "retrieved" from - but no change happened - still no contents showing when booting up in any linux.

I get a lot of email from different yahoogroups, but am having a bit of trouble in one group.
Every so often I'll get a message that is written in rich text and sent from the group's web post feature, but only half of it is displayed. If I check the message source the entire message is there, and if I change Evolutions settings to plain instead of HTML then the entire message is there.
The weird thing is it only seems to be the messages from one particular poster that is being cut off.
It'd be nice if I could stick with HTML and Evolution.
I just upgraded to Maverick yesterday. When I used to compose a new email I was able to add my email signature to it via a little drop down menu in the compose window. Where has it gone? I can't see any way at all to add my signature to my emails.

1 Yahoo account for everything else so most spam will go there.
1 University account that I have to use while taking a masters degree program
1 AOL account - a holdout from a long time ago that I hardly ever check.
What would be my reason for using a computer based email system like Evolution or Thunderbird? Could I combine all this accounts to one place? Would I want to? I don't have a job right now so I don't have a work email. I thought it would me nice if I could somehow go to one place to see all these email accounts. I will check it out on my own but I thought I would ask the forum for some wisdom.
