View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed audacity but it doesn't import mp3's. I even reinstalled the version from the packman repository but still no mp3 support. Tried to update it, can't figure out how to get it to play mp3's.
I am just looking for a media player I can open mp3's in, change the pitch and then export again.
So Ive had this issue off and on for a while now, but have never really looked to see if others have had it or how I can fix it. Essentially the problem is that kde seems to randomly decide that I am holding down the shift or ctrl key.Im using a logitech cordless desktop s510, running openSUSE 11.3 x86_64. Ive had this problem on and off using a couple of different logitech keyboards. The most often time when it happens with the shift key is when im coding, and the control key when Im running a keyboard shortcut.
I can usually fix the issue by holding down the key that kde thinks is pressed for like 5-10 seconds and releasing, however sometimes I have to unplug and then replug in the usb adapter for kde to get things right. This doesnt happen if im running a non-graphical terminal (thouhg I cant say whether it happens in gnome as I dont have gnome installed) so I am thinking its related to kde. The keyboard can be plugged into other computers and they dont act the same way.
This gets esspecially annoying when Im coding (because of all the symbols) and generally when the issue occurs. I think it may have something to do with the key being pressed for over a certain length.
One of the very few things I miss from Windows is that when you press LeftShift+Del the delete key acts like the backspace key, in other words you can use Del to delete forwards and LeftShift+Del to delete backwards.
I've been reading man pages such as xmodmap and used xev to get keycodes but I can't work out how to map LeftShift+Del to Backspace.
Can someone tell me how to do this please?
it has installed correctly and asked me to reboot my computer so i did but it automatically boots Windows7 and i dont seem to get a choice, i read up on GRUB 1.99 and it says i have to use shift or esc to run it to select Ubuntu, i did this but shift didnt work, tryed esc but i only caught a glimpse of what i think was GRUB before the computer restarted.

I want to disable the CAPS LOCK key and replace it by pressing SHIFT twice in quick successions (like you do in Android and iOS devices). Disabling the Caps Lock key is easy using xmodmap but is it possible to do what I want to do with the SHIFT key?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to remap the Capslock key to a Shift key. The reason being is the UK keyboard has a very large Caps Lock and a alpha size shift. I have been looking everywhere and there is a lot about turning it into a CTRL key but I don't understand. Can you give me simple instuctions I don't know what keycodes to use and what file to edit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not to clear on the difference between LTS versions and other versions, but think I may want to go with LTS. Can someone tell me if my thinking is correct given the following situation: I have some very cool, but very expensive software installed with a group license from my school, a school which I am not going to be attending for too much longer. So I want to go as long as possible without reinstalling Ubuntu, because once the product is licensed it will be licensed until I reinstall Ubuntu (or I uninstall the program). So I think this is going to require me keep the Ubuntu version I install as long as possible.
So in this case, should I go with 10.04LTS or should I just install Natty Narwhal and keep that as long as possible? It looks like 10.04LTS will be "supported" longer, but I'm not exactly clear on all that "supported" entails. Presumable it means security and software updates will be available for 10.04LTS for much longer than 11.x versions? So I'm thinking I should go with 10.04LTS
Is my thinking correct in going with 10.04LTS? Edit: It was pointed out that this would be against my contractual agreements. Which I suppose is probably true.
In order to make this conversion I have to use a text editor. This is tedious. Is there an easier way to do it, like some program I can run from the Linux or OSX terminal?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think this might be related to the changes to using udev or DeviceKit. It started when I was running the beta versions of F12. Then it crept into Debian Sid. And my Arch Testing and Gentoo also suffer from the same.
What happens is that I'll be working along. Then when I press any key it is as if the SHIFT key is pressed. When I press CAPSLOCK, some of the keys react as they would normally. This never lasts for more than 5 minutes. And seems to happen infrequently. I say seems because there are the times I am at work and it could be that the same thing is happening only there is no one on the keyboard.
The reason I pick out udev/DeviceKit is that when it used to happen to F12 beta, the other distros had not yet made the move. So back then it was only a F12 issue. Now it is happening across the board. And only started recently.
1. I have dual booted Suse and Win Xp in past. Can idea be applied to different versions of Suse? I have a working Suse11.2 , and I have a spare partition (15GB) which can be re-formated.
2. Can i do a clean new install to the spare partition? Thus ending with two working Suse versions? ( Separate /home partitions). This would allow a) reserve of a working system while checking that 11.3 works. Then remove 11.2 later , and how to do that.
I installed Slackware 13.37 current 32 bit (kernel 2.6.38.7-smp) last saturday and almost everything works fine. I don't understand why I cannot use Ctrl-Ins and Shift-Ins shortcuts for copy and paste in console terminal. Shortcuts works fine in X terminal (fluxbox) Konsole... but they don't in text console.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI checked my kernel version (uname -r) and see I'm on "2.6.34.8-0.2-default", and I noticed that they just released 2.6.39. I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that there's been at least versions 2.6.35/6/7/8 released in there. Why isn't my openSUSE 11.3 using anything more recent than .34? How does this updating work? Is 11.4 on a more recent one?
View 8 Replies View Relatedthat's it! I got OpenSuse 11.2 and the size of the Repo has exceeded the 4 GB limit. This means that the mirror doesn't fit on my USB-stick anymore, nor would it fit on aDVD-RAM/RW (thus I can't distribute the updates anymore). Yes, there are bigger USB-sticks and BR-RWs, but in the end it is pure insanity!

I'm having trouble installing the latest openSuSE 11.2 32bit using NFS. The issue appears during the text-interface, before switching to the GUI. The first strange thing I noticed after mounting the ISO is the change in User/Group-IDs. Earlier versions don't do this:
Code:
# mount ./openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso /images/suse11.2 -o loop
# ls -lah /images
dr-xr-xr-x 7 root root 6.0K Dec 1 2006 suse10.2/
dr-xr-xr-x 8 root root 6.0K Jun 10 2008 suse11/
drwxr-xr-x 8 98 98 6.0K Nov 6 16:21 suse11.2/
drwxr-xr-x 8 98 98 6.0K Nov 6 14:14 suse11.2_x64/
When starting the installation process on the client system I get a "No repository found" message. Checking the error console (Alt+F4) shows:
Code:
SQUASHFS error: Minor/Major mismatch, trying to mount a newer 4.0 filesystem
SQUASHFS error: Please update your kernel
Older Versions (11.0, 11.1) are working OK. This error is suspicious since it remains after deactivating the NFSv4 in /etc/sysconfig/nfs and commenting out the NFSv4 export lines in /etc/exports.
Here's my /etc/exports:
Code:
/images/suse11 *(ro,root_squash,async,subtree_check)
/images/suse11_x64 *(ro,root_squash,async,subtree_check)
/images/suse11.2 *(ro,root_squash,async,subtree_check)
/images/suse11.2_x64 *(ro,root_squash,async,subtree_check)
I just installed openSuse 11.2. I added extra repo's like packman and Mozilla. I gave them priority level 80. The normal openSuse repo's have priority level 99.Still, Yast does not show newer versions from Packman or Mozilla.Yast completely ignores the prioritylevels of the repo's.The only time Yast shows packages from other repo's, is when they are not in the default repo's, like XMMS,w32codec-all, etc.So the repo's are added in the right way,but something strange happens in software management.
When I search for firefox, it shows the old version 3.5.6-1.1.1.When I click on the tab versions, I see that version 3.6.0-1.2 is there from openSuse buildservice. Why is Yast not showing the higher version (available) in the mainscreen? When I select it manually, Yast complains about dependancies because it is not aware of newer versions of mozilla xulrunner.
I have a strange problem, I opensuse. I myself live versions on the Internet, but I'm not the version installed! I connected with usb modem.
