Ubuntu :: Update Manager Can't Download Files From The Getdeb.net Server
Oct 17, 2010
For some weird reason my update manager can't download files from the getdeb.net server.[URL].. Why is that? Is t here a bug in my system or are the server down or something?Because it can download everything else perfectly.
I keep getting this error when trying to update but I know it is a bug and has been filed as a bug report. Code: Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20100429)/dists/lucid/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20100429)/dists/lucid/restricted/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I updated from karmic to lucid server edition and now firefox wants to download some php files. index.php which is in the same directory is apparently correctly parsed.
Google chrome tells me that the site may be temporarily down and Opera informs me that the connection has been closed by the remote server.
Under karmic I had a standard lamp server installed and everything worked fine.
This is the first time I post in a forum and I hope this is fine here.
I just moved the scripts from the server to a local machine which I updated a couple of weeks ago to lucid.
I started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router
When I open Update Manager and click "check," it starts downloading package information and then the following pops up: Could not download all repository indexes.
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.45 80] Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.45 80] Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I opened Software Sources to try and remove the repositories, but couldn't find them. Plus I'm not sure if I need to manually replace these repositories with newer ones- I'm still relatively new at using Ubuntu (made the full switch from windows in October 2009). Plus, whenever I do install updates with the update manager, the "last updated" time doesn't reset itself. It finishes installing the selected packages, and the message at the top of the Update Manager window reads "Your system is up-to-date. The package information was last updated 28 days ago. Using Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64
Ran the update manager, system was pretty much up to date, only a few files to download. Was it ever SLOW. Most of the time I can download from other sites about 650 kB/s. The update was around 10 kB/s and slower sometimes. What is wrong? Just a lot of people updating at the same time?
downloaded wubi 10.04 & after install wireless inop. 64bit 10.04 & unable to connect with a cat5 to download fixes My problem is finding the fix for wireless & downloading it with windows. So how can i download the fix in windows & install with the update manager or whatever. Bottom line what is the fix & how can i download it with windows?
I'm quite new to Linux and Ubuntu 10.10 and I wonder if it is good practice to always download and install the available software from the update manager or does it slows down the computer?
I have a system that has very limited disk space on /var and everytime I attempt to do any updates to the system via update manager it was always error saying that there is not enough disk space. I wanted to know how I can change the download directory of the update manager to a partition with more space?
Which download manager i can use for linux and how...kindly let me know can i use windows download manager such as DAP or internet download manager with wine in linux...
I am getting this errors when I check for new updates: Code: W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found , W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found , E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I have ubuntu 10.04 32 bit installed on my laptop. When i want to use the update manager and try to check for update and I want to upgrade my 10.04 to 10.10.Every time i click to check ... it gave me in the end this message "couldn't download all repository indexes"with alot of errors in the box.I tried to use different server, all gave me the same thing. I don't know why !!before my laptop was just fine, but i didn't use it for nearly a month. and now the update manger not working..
I keep getting a red triangle at the top right corner of my screen that says I need to update my software, but when I run update manager, I get an error window with the title of this post saying the following in its details:
I tried following the instructions in this post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1787167, but even though I successfully switch servers, I still get the same update manager failure.
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Hash Sum mismatch E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Tried 3 different mirrors all have the same error. I assume this is the same issue we had a while back where one package was messing things up. Mirrors I my sources.list
i have been trying to complete the following project1) Configure a FTP server where we can upload and download files.........2) server must run at 9 pm & stop at 9 am automatically ............although the first task was easy ,i have no idea how to accomplish the 2nd task(not to mention I'm a new user)
can't seem to get my Linux AntiVirus Live update to download virus defs from my Windows Symantec Update Server?Windows workstations can update and download without a problem? When I run LiveUpdate from the side it errors out with "an error has occurred (code=-2,001)" Also, I'm not sure where the Linux defs are to be placed on my windows side for download from my linux workstations? I've found a couple good articles but everything I've tried hasn't fixed my problem? If I download the virus defs locally to each linux box I can update the virus defs without a problem, not a good option when I have several Linux boxes.
I am having issues with Update Manager after cancelling an Update. The Update Manager shows a number of required updates, but when I click on Install Updates... Nothing happensWhen I launch sudo dpkg --configure -a in a terminal I receive the following message:dpkg: status database area is locked by another process. On another forum i saw something regarding a gksu.lock file that needed to be deleted... but I can't find any such file....If I try to launch update manager via a terminal: sudo update-manager I get the following error:
requiredDownload could not be calculated: E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_karmic-updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages (2), E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_karmic-updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages (1), E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/apt/lists
Alternative to Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download movies from any website.Ok, so one of the cool things about IDM was that i was able to download movies from ..... and other sites that have video clips on their site, but now that i have switch all my computers over to ubuntu linux, i now need an alternative to this problem because IDM will not work with the firefox on ubuntu linux. So my question is, do you guys know of an alternative software for downloading movies from any site such as ..... and other sites?
Version 8.1. I am trying to update all software packages on my netbook. When I run the update manager and press check, it scans for a while saying downloading 1 of 15 packages and then returns with errors like:
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to connect to 10.0.1.248 8080:
W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
how do I upgrade software on my netbook to their latest version?
Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??
I can't download files from my server that I have. code...
it have worked before when the server used port 21 but now when they changed it to 4700 it doesn't work. I have emailed them and they get it to work with FLASHFXP but that is a freeware and it is for windows.
in filezilla I get "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing"
I have a question about using ubuntu to download files from an HTTP server remotely and didn't know where to put it, so hopefully it falls under general support. Anyway, I am about to move into a place with an incredibly slow internet connection and a tiny data allowance and my brother has said that, if possible, I can use his internet connection to download any large files to a box I can just leave at his place, then I can simply come over to his place every few weeks and copy said files to a hard drive and all will be well. The problem is that I am not sure how to do this.
Today I went out and bought a few parts and built a cheap computer with a HDD big enough to hold whatever I need, however when I got home I realised I had no idea how I was going to handle the software aspect of this. Is there any way that I can access that computer remotely over the internet and schedule fairly large downloads from an http server? Also after talking to a friend I was told that I need to install the server version of ubuntu if this is to work, is this correct? Also, if its relevant the specs of the computer I have for this is using an "Intel Desktop Board D510M0 + Intel Atom Processor D510" which uses 64 bit architecture.
When I check for updates, it just malfunctions and i get this hogwash: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Could not connect to packages.freecontrib.org:80 (34.52.53.34), connection timed out
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to connect to packages.freecontrib.org http: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to connect to packages.freecontrib.org http: W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
Here at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
