General :: Check Quality Of A Specific Column In A Tab-delimited File?
Mar 8, 2010
shell commands for such two goals?
In a tab-delimited file,
Code:
1aIa11aa
2bIIa22aa
1cIIIaabcaa
4dIVaabcaa
1. How can I find the non-unique values in the 1st column (1, in this case)?
2. How can I find the non-integer values in the 5th column (abc, in this case)?

Im trying to use awk to do matching in only a specific column
example.txt:
www.google.com www.example.com
www.google.com/search www.example2.com
i used:
awk '{ (if $1 == "http://www.google.com") print $2}' example.txt
this awk statement only returns the first line, and i cant seems to make it perform in a way to match based on keywords like GREP. Is there any way to make display the other lines which contains "google" also?

need to monitor pecific processes over a time frame in terms of the amount of memory and cpu usage it utilizes. I can do this using the top -p <pid> option and using ps to retrieve the pid's. However, seeing that the pid's might differ and it needs to be run on about 13 different machines, I would like to write a script for this that can be run at set intervals. My problem that I have is this:
- When running top -p <pid> I can specify a comma seperated list of the processes required to monitor at that specific time.
- I can use ps -ef | grep <process> | grep -v grep| awk '{ print $2 }' to retrive the list of pid's and output this to a file.
However, how can I output these to the file as a comma seperated list without having to manually do this every time? The reason for this is (an example), lets say I want to monitor the cpu and memory usage of postgresql as well as all its child processes, then I would ps grep for postgres and get the list of pid's for instance.This list then needs to be passed to top -p as a comma seperated list of pid's I suspect that awk or sed might have some options available for this but I do not know this well enough.

I want to be able to check the contents of a text file for a specific string and remove it from the file from the command prompt. I would basically be searching through a number of files and if a specific string is found I would like it removed automatically. pretty much a find and replace, were the replace is nothing. any one got any ideas on how you would do this. I already have the search part sorted just need to be able to remove the string I don't want from the multiple files.

I did some searches and after a few hours was able to get what I needed. What I didn't find was a fully encompased means of what I'm used to in the windows world in working with delimted files. Hopefully this is helpful to others and if there is something better or leaner way, even better.We have an issue where managing printers, just viewing on RHEL w/ sys-conf-prtr we lose any number of, up to ~30 printers from lpadmin. Rather than stare and compare to find the missing ones, I wanted to make an intuitive script. This is what I came up with.
Code:
#!/bin/sh
while IFS="," read Prntr IP; do

I have a large tab delimited text file, about 17gb. It only has 6 column. On column number 4, it is all numbers. Ranging from 1-1000. I want to count how many times each number occured. So the output I want is in 2 columns, first one is a number, second column is how many times it occured. I tried
head -n 1000 coverage | cut -f 4 | uniq -c
Didn't work for me, the first column returned is not unique.

I was trying to redirect the output of two variables to different columns of a .csv file in MS excel like this,
Code:
echo "$a $b" > abc.csv
But I am getting both $a and $b in the same column, is there anything I can use instead of to move the value of $b to the next column? Or is there a good different approach to do it?

I have 2 large text files , one looks like this:
<contact type="1">blahblah@hotmail.com</contact>
<contact type="1">blahblah2@hotmail.com</contact>
<contact type="1">blahblah3@hotmail.com</contact>
The other is a list of emails in single column format like this:
emailaddy@hotmail.com
emailaddy2@hotmail.com
emailaddy3@hotmail.com , etc
Is there a command to delete all the blahblah emails from text file 1 and replace them with the ones from text file 2?
Or maybe a linux version of 'Csved' which has the ability to add,remove,insert columns?

I am trying to do this:
1. Read csv delimited file line1 and store all values in array
2. Use the values stored in the array and replace values in other text file with them
3. read line2 in the cvs file and repeat the process
4. Do above for all lines in the cvs file
for example:
file1.cvs content:
text1,text2,text3,"text 4"
a1,a2,3,"a 4"
file.txt content:
some text $array1$ some text
some text $array2$ some text
1. read line 1 - text1,text2,text3,"text 4" put each value in array X[] lines that contain spaces in cvs will have double quotes
2. read x[1] and replace value $array1$ (in file.txt) with x[1]read x[2] and replace value $array2$ (in file.txt) with x[2] and so on
Can above be accomplished in BASH and how?

I have a vp6 codec flv. I have a wav file that I want to convert into mp3 and added to the vp6 flv. So when I play the flv the audio is added and the video quality is not changed.I tried:ffmpeg -i 20.flv -i 20.wav -vcodec copy -acodec libmp3lame new_file.flvbut I an error "Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?)". I'm guessing because it is a vp6 flv codec.Is there a way to just add an audio file to the flv? There is no audio in the current flv. I cannot lose any quality in the video.

I have a file that stores employee login IDs, names, types, and permissions. Our software reads the information based on byte-columns, so it reads a column as any ASCII character (spaces, letters, numbers, punctuation, etc.). I want to create a web-interface for adding and removing users, and storing the data in a MySQL database. However, if I am creating the files from the MySQL output, I need a way to write to specific column locations in the file ...
User ID: Columns 1-4
User Name: Columns 6-30
Type: 32-40
Permissions: 42-45
I want to use a scripting language, preferably C-Shell, to call MySQL for the data and write the data to the correct columns of the file. I wrote a script that takes the data from the file, and dumps it into the MySQL table, so maybe I can pad the remaining space in the table column to fill with spaces ...

i use this script to get the time and date of back and fourth transactions for a particular execution id. I use a substr command on the 5th column to to cut the milli seconds off the time value. - otherwise the times would look like 08:30:04.235
grep <executionID> <auditfile> | awk '{ print $1, $2, $3, $4, substr($5,1,8}
FIX -> Mon 3/1/2010 08:30:04
FIX <- Mon 3/1/2010 08:32:36
FIX <- Mon 3/1/2010 08:35:08
[code].....
anyhow - i append two sed commands to further clarify the direction of the message.
awk '{ print $1, $2, $3, $4, substr($5,1,8} | sed -e 's/->/ ->IN/g' | sed -e 's/<-/<-OUT/g'
FIX -> IN Mon 3/1/2010 08:30:04
FIX <- OUT Mon 3/1/2010 08:32:36
[code]....
I tried using an awk gsub () command within the string instead of the two seds, but it did not work:
awk '{ print gsub(/<regex>/, <replace with>,$1), $2, $3, $4, substr($5,1,8}
the sed works ok, but it would be cooler to make the replacement within the awk command:
gsub(/->/,-> IN, $1)
Is there a way where i could replace the value of the $1 column in the awk print string?
