OpenSUSE Network :: Susie 11.4 Network Manager Doesnt Start At Bootup

May 22, 2011

I am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.

Ubuntu Networking :: No DNS For Wireless - How To Start Network Manager

Apr 30, 2010

I have 10.04 installed on my HP MiniNote Netbook. If I plug it into the the ethernet directly, all is well, but if I only use the wireless, i get no DNS servers. And one of my wireless networks is on the same router as the wired connection. Also, wireless works just perfectly on my MacBook Air. So, I do not think it is the router. So why am I not getting DNS addresses? How would I set them manually? I can't figure out how to start network manager.

OpenSUSE Network :: Manager / Default Keyring Very Slow Start?

Jan 21, 2011

Recently I purchased a new laptop and installed openSUSE 11.3 x64 Gnome. I was running openSUSE 11.2 x86 Gnome on my previous laptop. Most things are working well, although still tweaking things here and there.

The biggest issue at the moment is starting the network. When I boot the system it loads into desktop (gnome) no problem, but then takes between 3 - 5 minutes to come up asking for Default Keyring Password before it will launch network manager. Everything else has loaded and it running fine except the network.

The first time I launched the system (after install) it worked perfectly, however soon as a set the password for the Default Key this started happening. The time delay before it launches does vary each time but always around 3 minute mark.

Debian Installation :: No Network-Manager - Pull Up The Terminal And Enter A Command To Start?

Sep 1, 2011

I downloaded Debian Stable last night, and everything appear to go smoothly. Today, I booted up the new OS to try it out for the first time. As I was exploring a few of the features, I decided to pull up a web browser. No internet connection.

No big deal, I thought, as I searched around for a way to connect wirelessly. I couldn't find a way to do so. I consulted one of my more Linux savvy friends, who advised me to pull up the terminal and enter a command to start the network-manager. According to the terminal, no such file currently exists on my system.

This is a bit of a conundrum for me, since I am on my university campus with no ethernet cord to attempt a direct connection. Is there any way to get the network-manager onto my computer? Also, did I mess up somewhere in the installation, or did someone not package the file with CD1 for some unknown reason?

General :: Way To Prevent Network Manager From Storing Password For Wireless Network

Sep 27, 2010

Our corporate wireless network uses continuously changing passwords with RSA tokens. So every time we need to connect to the wireless we need to enter a new password off the RSA token. For extra fun using the wrong password a couple of times in a row causes the users account to be locked.Network manager automatically stores and reuses the password, with the net result that it is constant getting my account locked. Is there some way to prevent it from storing my password for that network?

Ubuntu :: No Network-manager Or Nework-manager-gnome

Oct 6, 2009

I have been trying to lighten the load that Ubuntu uses on my RAM and processor, and decided to try LXDE, as it is the lightest-weight DE that I have tried and liked. I noticed I didn't have any wireless connectivty under LXDE, so I checked the LXDE site for the solution, and it said to download and install LXNM, which supports wireless connections. Unfortunately, installing LXNM (apt-get install lxnm) also uninstalled nework-manager, and network-manager-gnome, on top of lxnm not working properly, and stranding me without any way of reinstalling the OS, and without an internet connection (I can't connect with a wired connection, either). Is there anything I can do, aside from reinstalling?

General :: Debian Squeeze No Network Manager

Jul 31, 2011

Okay, so today I decided I was bored with my current Fedora 15 installation and tried a little distro hopping. Eventually I ended up at Debian Squeeze. I downloaded the cd version as a net install won't work because of driver issues. I used the graphical interface to install it.When it finished installing I booted it up, made sure everything was working. Now in all my past I think 6 linux installations, all I had to do to get the internet working was move a file someone gave me a while to my /lib/firmware. I'm not sure if this is the problem, but no matter what, where ever I go, I can't find an actual manager to connect to the internet. This might be a stupid question to a lot of people, but I'm stumped. There is nothing in the menu's.

Now I've been working with GNU/Linux for almost a year now and have come across many problems, but never like this. I've Googled up and down, and searched the forums here and still nothing. I've looked in the menu's and the only network related thing is network-proxy. Just for kicks I also tried

General :: Use Franklin U301 Aircard Without Network Manager?

Jan 30, 2011

Using Network manager, I have been able to use my Aircard to get on the internet. However, many times, the connection is dropped after a short time (<1min), I can reconnect after waiting about another minute. After going through this cycle a couple of times, the aircard stays connected. Since Network Manager doesn't use the "normal" config files for network interfaces I have been chasing my tail trying to figure out what is going on.

Have recently added a router to my system Linksys Model BEFSR41. Now, I can connect to the internet with the aircard but firefox will not find the internet unless I disconnect from the router. Some website have stated that Network Manager is not meant for wired networks - not sure why since there is clearly a tab for that.

In any event, I would like to get rid of Network Manager and just use more normal config files for my networking. Before I delete Network Manager, I want to make sure I can access the internet through the aircard. Does anyone know how to do this? I've tried PON with various settings but don't seem to be able to get anywhere. No DSL, cable or other inet connections in my neighborhood. Aircard is my only (affordable) option.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Will Not Auto-connect To New Network After Resume?

Jul 1, 2010

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. It would not connect to the school network unless I explicitly told it to.irst, I'll describe the fix. If you're having this problem, you can this. Copy the following:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
case "$1" in

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Stopped Recognizing Wireless Network

Jan 24, 2011

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...

Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.

P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
