General :: Can't Roaming To Another Ap2 - Detect & Transfer
Jul 13, 2010
i'm using Fedora 13 with wireless card: Intel 622 ANHMW i'm testing the roaming quility under F13, if i set 3 ap's with same SSID "51g" and different channel "1" "6" "11" I can roaming from ap's when the strength of ap is less than 50%(maybe) but if the strength of ap1 is greater than 70%(maybe) ,
i can't roaming to another ap2 although the laptop just put beside ap2
1. can i set some files that indicate what strength F13 will detect another ap ?
2. when the ap's strength less than a value, it take about 30's or more to detect & transfer from weak ap to strength ap, does that situation normal? or how to speed up the ap's roaming?
Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
i m working on roaming profile where linux is the server & windows is the client... i m implementing it using samba as pdc my linux version is 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64 but my samba server is not working windows is not authenticating my domain name following is the copy of my smb.conf file
Quote:
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
I'm using Fedora 13 , wireless card:Intel 512AN_MMW kernel version:2.6.33.6-147.fc13.i686 below is my problem: when i finished install F13,i can use Wireless card surfing internet i have multiple ap's , and if the ap set with same ssid and different channel, i can roaming between ap's if i'm accessing the internet , otherwise, it won't change to greater signal ap if i'm not using the internet , does this condition normally ?
The other question is , if i'm using different ssid , like "wlan01" "wlan02", can i roaming between this two ap's automatically?
Everything works fine in doing this, however every time a user logs into the Windows Citrix Session the roaming profile created on the linux samba share creates their Windows Profile with a 755 perms. I understand that the default umask is (globally on my RHEL host is 022 ??) but in my smb.conf file the definition that is defined for the directory is set to a create mask of 0700. What is going on?
I have CentOS 5 + Sendmail within the local network with Smarthosting settings. How my Laptops users will connect my local Sendmail server for sending / receiving e-mails while out of the office network. I have router but no firewall in place in local network.
i am trying to transfer a file from my live linux machine to remote linux machine it is a mail server and single .tar.gz file include all data. but during transfer it stop working. how can i work and trouble shooot the matter. is there any better way then this to transfer huge 14 gb file over network, vpn, wan transfer. the speed is 1mbps,rest of the file it copy it.

I have finally weaned my laptop from network manager by setting up my /etc/network/interfaces file. # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback
wireless automatically connects to my home wireless network (linksysn). But suppose I wanted to take this laptop to the coffee house where they have free wifi. I am assuming that my wireless will not automatically connect to any other wifi hotspot except linksysn. So how do i set it up to roam like NM did?
How can I stop my wifi roaming when I don't want it to? I connect to the internet through one of a number of hotspots in my area, all with the same name. Frequently, sometimes several times an hour, my machine will spontaneously switch to a much weaker hotspot than the one I normally use. This causes an enormous amount of disruption, with today's disruption really taking the biscuit: I was in the middle of an international VOIP conversation with a potential employer.
I can't remember whether things were better when I was using wicd instead of network manager, but wicd had a huge hit on my system resources (2% or more of CPU), so it's not a great solution. In the KDE interface to Network Manager you can specify which ESSID to connect to, but these settings are ignored.
I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card. What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?
using Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant, like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.
I'm trying to setup roaming profiles on our Samba PDC. I've been at it all day, running into a lot of issues with access denied, and going around changing permissions hoping to fix it
The problem seems to have evolved over the day, getting worse. Right now it's an error message on logging in: Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile.....
DETAIL- The network name cannot be found. In addition, the user does not have access to any shares by default.
The server can be accessed manually and the user can connect to shares. The server can be pinged by the client. The client's user profiles do not get stored or retrieved on logout/in
current smb.conf # Samba config file created using SWAT # from UNKNOWN () # Date: 2010/08/22 16:34:42 [global] workgroup = ROSHNI.LOCAL
I've been at this for hours now and am still not getting it to work. I recently installed Squeeze on my home server, overwriting a Lenny installation. I've been able to add my NT domain accounts back in and pdbedit shows the expeted values - e.g.:
root@whenim64:/home/samba/profiles# pdbedit -Lv garydale Unix username: garydale NT username: Account Flags: [U ] User SID: S-1-5-21-832165970-4128531365-4003982369-1002 Primary Group SID: S-1-5-21-832165970-4128531365-4003982369-513 Full Name: Gary Dale [Code].....
However, although I can log on, I can't get the roaming profiles working. I get the "windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile" message. Since my Unix account names/numbers are the same and the profiles are in the previously working /home folder that didn't get touched, I can't see how it''s a permissions problem. Noneheless, I removed an old profile which should have let WIndows create a new one. It didn't. I still got the same error. I did have to reinstate the groupmaps (don't know why the samba install doesn't do this) but they seem OK.
I want to create an extra Ubuntu Server for storing roaming profiles,
I got: One Win2k8 server as Domain controller. One Ubuntu 9.10 server who is a member of the domain using Samba. Winbind is working correctly.. I can at least connect to shares with user names of the AD. Anyway my client (WinXP) currently logs on to the AD and works from there. I want to configure it so that all accounts are going to use roaming profiles, but here it comes... I want to store the roaming profiles on the extra Ubuntu server.
I've been thinking about setting up roaming profiles so that I can access my profile and settings from any computer in the house that has ubuntu booting on it. One thing that concerns me is, what happens if I log in using my profile from more than one computer at the same time? A couple examples:
1. I'm working on something on one pc, and go downstairs. A little while later I fire up a laptop down there and want to browse the web. What would happen?
2. I am logged in to my desktop, but let it go to standby. I later log on to a different pc on the network and load the same profile that was logged in (but in standby). What happens to the state of the profile when the desktop wakes up again?
I'm doing some research into ip roaming and haven't come across a whole lot. My definition of IP roaming is the client / server changing of IP addresses on a regular basis using a pre-set number of IP addresses that both client and server have knowledge of. Specifically I'm interested in if anyone knows of any Linux applications that allow for IP address changing on regular intervals.
I'd like to go one step further now, with my laptop. As I'll be travelling more often in the foreseeable future, I'd like to be able to connect to WLAN hot spots in hotels, railway stations and air ports with a minimum of hassle. What's the best way to go about it?
Of course, Wicd is quite useful, but I'd prefer a KDE application, and I'd like to be able to define "profiles" for various scenarios. Certainly I am not the first Slackware user with this requiremnent, and probably there are tons or docs regarding this topic. However, searching LQ and the internet I haven't found what I am looking for.
I have a new F12 install, and my syslog is filling up with messages about USB. I have 2 USB devices plugged in directly to the mobo (bluetooth keyboard receiver, touchscreen), and it keeps redetecting them and then disabling the port for some reason.
I was successfully using samba + fedora directory server in fedora 10 as a primary domain controller for my home network (achieved mostly by following barry905's instructions here: [url].
After upgrading to fedora 11, some of the pdc functionality no longer worked.
For example, when i ran 'pdbedit -Lv', i got:
Code:
I was able to fix this by adding to the [global] section in /etc/samba/smb.conf:
Code:
I also found that i could no longer join an xp computer to the domain. i discovered that for some reason, the samba administrator password had been cleared. after running:
Code:
That was fixed.
The last problem, which i have still not fixed, is that roaming profiles no longer work. when i try to do a domain login as user 'htpc' from an xp machine, i get the following message in xp:
I'd like to set up a Ubuntu server with windows clients running roaming profiles. I know this is possible but do not know how to set it up. Does anyone know of a guide or anything that can explain this?
I want to be able to create a php webpage that will show the logged in users files and how full their home directory is (roaming profiles). The php side isn't a problem....the problem is how do i determine the username of the user who is logged into Linux not the webpage itself?
What i want is when the user opens this page, it knows who they are already. I have seen this done on an intranet at work (don't know what OS it is running on tho) where I login to the network, view the page and it says my name.
I have a Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, with an external HD shared via Samba, with some users and folders on it. I have another computer on the network running Winblows Server 03', handling Active Directory (that I am still setting up and testing before any serious implementation.) I've been testing GPOs I am building on an XP SP3 virtual machine that is running off my Ubuntu desktop as well, that I joined to the AD domain.
However, the Domain Controller doesn't have a very big hard drive, and I'd like to take advantage of having 930GB free on this external hard drive for roaming user profiles, especially since I backup all of the drive contents every week. This would simplify a lot for me. What would you recommend is the best way to go about setting this up with my Samba configuration? I have a feeling /media/Slave/UserProfiles permissions will get somewhat complex.
I'm having problems connecting to a wireless network on my Dell inspiron 1520. i can't seem to enable wireless roaming on ubuntu and i get various error messages when i try.
When i run iwconfig, i get:
running iwlistscan gives me:
When i right click the network manager, there is no "enable wireless" option. I know that wireless works since i used it last night on windows, and the radio is turned on.
On all of my xp clients no matter what the username is is I am continously getting the error saying that the profile cannot be found. I just built this domain recently and since day 1 the roaming profiles have not worked.
Im trying to set up a samba PDC and login to it from Vista, and everything is fine except that the login script is not getting run at all. I dont want roaming profiles, I just want a script to map the samba users drive and a couple of other network shares. Pasting smb.conf at end of post. The logon script is in the netlogon directory and Im pretty sure all the permissions are ok. /home/samba/netlogon/logon.cmd This is a windows file.Vista logs in ok as the domain user, just no script!
Code:
[global] ; General server settings netbios name = TILVERTON server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu)
I have heard the wpa_supplicant in roaming mode, although absent from the various Debian (and Debian-related) forums and wikis, can handle automatic connections to a variety of encrypted and open networks as well as network-manager does... and better when using the MadWifi drivers!
I have puppy linux on a 512mb usb flash drive. I would like to put all of it onto a different usb flash drive with more memory. I used windows vista and copied all of the files from my first usb to my second but when I tried to boot it did not work.
Machine A holds important source data that needs to be backed up. Machine B is where the data will be backed up to.They're both Ubuntu.I want to have an automated process that allows machine A to create an encrypted tarball and copy it to machine B, without human intervention, but doesn't allow anything except copying the file over to a target directory.I thought about using a chroot jailed account, but this seems to be a pain to set up and overly complex. I really just want to be able to have machine A to copy files to machine B, via automatic cron, but I also want to prevent the mechanism that allows the copy from allowing any other actions (copying to any other directory, logging in, executing any other commands noninteractively, etc.). Also, the transfer must be encrypted (e.g. using ssh somehow).
