we have a DNS server is being used for external clients .Recently we installed awstat monioring tool in ordr to collect either ftp or mail statistic. Since our server is DNS server by defenition we may see all external clients requests to the ftp/mail services .But a LAN clients cannot be resolved by their IPs . The second nameserver line doesn't work. DNS server's conf file looks like :
search mycompany.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver LAN_IP_Address
How to configure the server it will resolve both external and corporate clients ?

I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.

Upgraded two machines to 11.3 in the past 2 weeks. NFS is broken on both, in different ways. The problem I'll mention here is that the nfs server is running, but clients can't connect.
The server is running:
tinderbox:~ # /etc/init.d/nfsserver status
Checking for kernel based NFS server: idmapd running
mounted running
statd running
nfsd running
It has a valid export list:
tinderbox:~ # showmount -e
Export list for tinderbox:
/usr/local/share/common 192.168.1.0/24
The export exists:
tinderbox:~ # ls -lR /usr/local/share/
/usr/local/share/:
total 4
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jan 2 12:10 common
/usr/local/share/common:
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 2 12:10 test.txt
But attempts to mount the export are unsuccessful, both from the local machine:
tinderbox:~ # mount.nfs 192.169.1.200:/usr/local/share/common /mnt -v
mount.nfs: timeout set for Sun Jan 2 12:14:19 2011
mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'addr=192.169.1.200,vers=4,clientaddr=192.168.1.200'
mount.nfs: mount(2): Connection timed out
mount.nfs: Connection timed out
...and from an OpenSUSE 11.0 machine.
moira:~ # mount.nfs 192.169.1.200:/usr/local/share/common /mnt/tmp/ -v
mount.nfs: timeout set for Sun Jan 2 11:52:17 2011
mount.nfs: text-based options: 'addr=192.169.1.200'
mount.nfs: Unable to connect to 192.169.1.200:111, errno 110 (Connection timed out)
mount.nfs: mount to NFS server 'rpcbind' failed: timed out, giving up
I've had NFS running on my local network for over a decade, and never had problems like this before.

At some point my Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop install has stopped being able to connect via ftp to servers. I have several servers that I have accounts to and I have several ftp clients installed on my system, including gftp, Filezilla, and command line ftp tools. None of them can connect to any of my servers.
Here it is from the command line:
> ftp mywebsite.com
ftp: connect: Connection refused
I can connect fine with my netbook running Ubuntu, only my desktop has this problem, and of course I use my desktop for development. Do I have a firewall running or something that's blocking my outgoing requests over port 21?

I'm trying to get a pptp server up and running. The server starts just fine, but encounters errors when a client tries to connect.
Code:
CTRL: I wrote 32 bytes to the client.
Dec 29 23:27:48 frankenstein pptpd[9402]: CTRL: Sent packet to client
Dec 29 23:27:48 frankenstein pptpd[9403]: CTRL (PPPD Launcher): program binary = /usr/sbin/pppd
[code]....
I assume the failed read line is the culprit. I am currently running on a test machine. There is no firewall. I read on this error points to a firewall misconfiguration, but there isn't one.

Has anyone got sendmail to connect to Rackspace using smarthost? I've setup rackspace as a smarthost in my sendmail.cf. I have a authinfo in my /etc/mail directory. It connects to smtp.emailsrvr.com (rackspace server) but I get the 'service unavailable' in the maillog. Rackspace says that they can see me sending mails but that they're not seeing the login and password. Not sure if they're right about that or not.

I'd like to go one step further now, with my laptop. As I'll be travelling more often in the foreseeable future, I'd like to be able to connect to WLAN hot spots in hotels, railway stations and air ports with a minimum of hassle. What's the best way to go about it?
Of course, Wicd is quite useful, but I'd prefer a KDE application, and I'd like to be able to define "profiles" for various scenarios. Certainly I am not the first Slackware user with this requiremnent, and probably there are tons or docs regarding this topic. However, searching LQ and the internet I haven't found what I am looking for.

I am using webmin for my daily tasks. I have fedora 13, whenever I click on ''Sendmail M4 Configuration'' or Outgoing Addresses (generics)'' I get the following error message
Quote:
The Sendmail M4 configuration base directory /usr/share/sendmail-cf was not found on your system, or is not the correct directory. Maybe it has not been installed (common for packaged installs of Sendmail), or the module config is incorrect. I read documentation at sendmail.org, it seems that structure of directories for send mail has been changed in version sendmail-8.1.4 shipped with FC13. In webmin config module we have
Quote:
Sendmail M4 base directory = /usr/share/sendmail-cf
which is not there. I did a locate / sendmail-cf on the command line, it finds nothing

Amavis-new on my mail server is marking my emails as spam, like so:
Quote:
Apr 16 12:15:52 myserver amavis[30979]: (o3GIFltt008868) Blocked SPAM, AM.PDP-SOCK [xx.xx.xx.xx] [xx.xx.xx.xx] <myemail@mydomain.com> -> <myfriend@hisdomain.com>, quarantine: spam-w1hxRn9Pr4P6.gz, Message-ID: <4BC8A9E8.2070108@mydomain.com>, mail_id: w1hxRn9Pr4P6, Hits: 7.844, size: 6763, 1986 ms
The mail server is not on my local LAN, and all the primary users are roaming. They connect via TLS auth, which is required to make a sendmail connection to my server. I could whitelist all addresses in my domain, but then anyone spoofing my email wouldn't be seen as spam. How do I simply tell amavis-new and/or sendmail not to spam scan TLS authenticated users?

I recently modified sendmail.cf to use a third party SMTP server to send emails. It works great. But when I run sendmail from the command line, I have to specify the -C flag and force feed it the location of my sendmail.cf, or else it doesn't work.
So in other words, the following works great:
However, if I don't specify the -C flag, sendmail doesn't consider what's in the sendmail.cf and barfs:
I don't run sendmail as a daemon. I'm only using it to send emails. I know my modifications of sendmail.cf are correct because it works perfectly when I use the -C flag. I searched my disk to see if I could find another sendmail.cf on the machine and only the one in /etc/mail came up.
Why sendmail is not reading my sendmail.cf?
I'm running Sendmail version 8.14.2 on Fedora Core 8.

I have a Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, with an external HD shared via Samba, with some users and folders on it. I have another computer on the network running Winblows Server 03', handling Active Directory (that I am still setting up and testing before any serious implementation.) I've been testing GPOs I am building on an XP SP3 virtual machine that is running off my Ubuntu desktop as well, that I joined to the AD domain.
However, the Domain Controller doesn't have a very big hard drive, and I'd like to take advantage of having 930GB free on this external hard drive for roaming user profiles, especially since I backup all of the drive contents every week. This would simplify a lot for me. What would you recommend is the best way to go about setting this up with my Samba configuration? I have a feeling /media/Slave/UserProfiles permissions will get somewhat complex.

I have deployed proxy server in my office about a month ago. I have about 7-8 client accessing it through port 3128. After some days of deployment, my server started creating problems. Some clients were not able to access proxy while other clients were accessing it. The error message which I found in cache.log was:
Code:
WARNING: Closing client 192.168.2.99 connection due to lifetime timeout
In this way it was disconnecting clients randomly. The problem resolves when I restart proxy server
Im sending my cache.log file
Code:
Last login: Mon Nov 15 12:37:29 2010 from 192.168.2.2
[root@localhost ~]# cat /var/log/squid/cache.log

I have a network consisting mostly of Windows Vista and 7 clients and an Ubuntu server. The server provides both the DHCP and NTP services through dhcp3-server and openntpd. In my dhcpd.conf, the subnet is declared as follows:
subnet 10.10.10.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.200;
option broadcast-address 10.10.10.255;
option routers 10.10.10.1;
option ntp-servers 10.10.10.1;
The clients don't seem to be using the NTP server though. When I capture the network traffic with Wireshark during the DHCP process, I also see no mention of the NTP option in the DHCP offer message. I am not quite sure if the clients would have to specifically request that option to receive it or if I have to make another configuration to offer the option.

I'm curious but recently I was troubleshooting some iptables rules to allow nfs clients access to my nfs server. What was strange was that I setup a tcpdump session on my nfs server so that I can see which ports were being requested. I ran several tcpdump sessions with the following filters in place.
tcpdump -vv src ip_of_client and dst _ip_of_client
tcpdump -vv src hostname_of_client and dst hostname_of_client
However, the only packet I ever saw come over the wire to me was the client host asking for a arp resolution. Anyhow, I finally just ran 'rcpinfo -p' and added those ports to my iptables rules and it worked great. However, I would like to understand how nfs works in case I need to troubleshoot it in the future. I do understand that nfs uses portmappers, would this explain the behavior?

i'm using Fedora 13 with wireless card: Intel 622 ANHMW i'm testing the roaming quility under F13, if i set 3 ap's with same SSID "51g" and different channel "1" "6" "11" I can roaming from ap's when the strength of ap is less than 50%(maybe) but if the strength of ap1 is greater than 70%(maybe) ,
i can't roaming to another ap2 although the laptop just put beside ap2
1. can i set some files that indicate what strength F13 will detect another ap ?
2. when the ap's strength less than a value, it take about 30's or more to detect & transfer from weak ap to strength ap, does that situation normal? or how to speed up the ap's roaming?
