It showing that no package is found. For some reason, after i installed wine it doesn't have a link that takes me to the C: drive that Thunar used to open so I could access what I installed thats only compatible with windows, such as World Of Warcraft. I am trying to do a find/grep/wc command to find matching files, print the filename and then the word count of a specific pattern per file. Here is my best (non-working) attempt so far:
wc `find . ( -name "*.as" -o -name "*.mxml" ) -exec grep -H HeightResizableList {}` ;
Is there a way to specify to find that I only want text files (and not binary files)? Grep has an option to exclude binary files, so I thought find probably has a similar feature, but I've been unable to find it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have installed Debian maybe 30 times over the years since about 2003, stable, testing and Sid on two different desktops and two different laptops. The only problem I have ever had is sometimes with a flaky daily build. It is one of my favorite distros.
BUT, I am totally frustrated is trying to install to a USB. I have followed the manual step by step about 6 times in the past two weeks. The result is always the same. The installation fails to find an installation iso image. Yes, I know the iso image and the hd-media vmlinuz and initrd.gz files are supposed to be the same version.

The USB boots to a Language selection screen and proceeds through the Keyboard selection screen with no problems.
The next step which searches for an installation iso image fails.
Skipping that step and trying to load installer components from iso image also fails.
Searching the entire PC for an installation iso image also fails. (I even copied the netinst iso image to the HD root directory.)
I followed the steps from [url] to download and install the kernel source code.

The instaler doesnt find my partitions and the XP that is installed too! For some reasons i cannot delete the whole hdd... if i format the partition, where (i want to install ubuntu) with fat, the pc crashes during the installing process after the tastaturlayout question! if i try some other formats, the installer tells me, that there are no Operating Systems installed and the hdd is unpartitioned!
if i start ubuntu live from the cd, the system finds all partitions, but if i run cfdisk in a terminal, i get a fatal error (cannot open disk space)... My machine is a acer aspire 1694 WLMi (pretty old, but should be no problem), bios is up to date, Windows is XP home edition with SP3.
I had been using ubuntu for quite a while.But alas , I had to switch to WinXp when I started learning VS using its IDE.I installed Windows over Ubuntu wiping its grub.I hoped I will repair grub when I would need to.Now when I boot from Live CD to install grub it can't find the installation present.Moreover,when I try to make a fresh installation it can't find any Operating System in the HDD and asks to format WHOLE.. hard disk to make partition table and continue installation.

I'm using Debian since about two years now and I'm happy with it. Yesterday I used Synaptic to install the Typo3 4.2 meta package from the main sources.I wasn't sure if it would be a better idea to use the newer version 4.4, but thought it would be the least tricky thing to stick with the officially supported versions for Debian Lenny. So I picked up a book for this older version of Typo3 from the library and wanted to start learning the CMS.
The problem I encountered was the fact, that the installation didn't produce any folder on "/var/www/" from which I could start. As well I couldn't find any man, help or info entriesNothing so far on the internet as well. I just tried to install Fedora 12 x_64 on a machine that is currently running Fedora 11 x_64. It's a new machine for use as a server and is running a Phenom II 4 core on a gigabyte M/B - 4GB RAM, onboard ATI graphics, an Adaptec 5405Z RAID Controller that is in the 16 lane PCIe slot, and 3 SSD SATA dives in a RAID 0.I installed Fedora 11 x_64 on this machine just last week and it went perfectly smooth. The install recognized the video hardware, controller card and the RAID, installed correctly, boots fine, runs solid.When I attempt to install Fedora 12 x_64 on the same machine, it does NOT recognize the controller, nor the RAID and doesn't seem to like the video hardware. I stuck on a floppy drive and made a driver disk from the Adaptec provided Linux drivers, but the install fails to mount the floppy when I try to add the driver during boot from DVD - although it tries. (It's possible that my floppy drive and/or disks are too old to be useful. Seriously, loading drivers from a FLOPPY? Most computers don't even HAVE one any more.Sheesh...). The video also seems squirrelly and works better using the "simple" video drivers.
Anyone got any clues on this. It seems odd that the newer version works less well than the previous one.Maybe I'll try a different .iso - CDs or a live version or something just to check - and maybe try an install on a different machine. Yes, I put the install DVD through the self-test and it passed. I have tried 2 different copies and both fail.LATER - tried with live CD - boots OK, splash screen is OK, after bootup finishes it looks like maybe it's trying to start a different video driver - then the screen goes black and stays that way. Tomorrow I may stick in a discrete video card and see if that makes any difference.
Still Later: I have tried discrete video card, tried moving the RAID controller to the 4 lane slot, tried to install a driver from floppy (still no go) and have tried noprobe on boot command line. Although the "noprobe" got the video to keep going (albeit at a low resolution) it STILL refuses to see the RAID controller. The LED indicators on the RAID card SEEM to be indicating that the card locks up during Fedora 12 boot, but I haven't checked on that just yet. Fedora 11 continues to boot and run fine on the same machine - I'm running it right now. as I type this.Later yet: Ubuntu 9.10 86_64 that was released a couple weeks ago DOES, IN FACT see the controller and the RAID when I run the install process. Looks like Fedora 12 is badly broken after all. (Damn those even numbered releases anyway.....{;>D)=) Guess I'm going to be "stuck" with either Ubuntu or Fedora 11 unless a solution appears pretty soon. I have sent an inquiry to Adaptec, but I'm guessing they are going to say, "we don't support Fedora linux except Fedora 5 and Fedora 6" as those are the only drivers they seem to have available
Friday 11/20 - I've attached a SATA drive to the same computer. By using the "basic" video driver from the install DVD I am able to install F12 to the SATA drive without issue - it installs fine, boots fine, runs fine. However, it still will NOT see the RAID controller. I tried installing the driver .rpm from the disk that came from Adaptec, but the vanilla linux driver doesn't seem to be effective. So far, Fedora 12 continues to be a big FAIL! as far as this particular machine goes.
What do I need to grab for my install media/type in order to get a Fedora 13 32bit PAE install?
Also, do I need to do anything special to get a PAE kernel on a spin vs. the default Fedora?
I am installing Avg on F14 it's looks like installing perfectly no eror appearing but unable to find avg at the end of the installation. What should I do now?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 15 installed alongside Windows and Debian. The bootloader found Windows without any trouble, but it did not add an entry for the Debian install. os-prober sees both Windows and Debian as follows:

Since I'm new to Fedora and lack experience with Grub2, I'm asking for advice here before I go off and try to repair this in some silly way that will make life even more difficult. So...what's the tried-and-true Fedora approach to this?
