General :: Can't Find An Rpm To Upgrade Nfs On Box?

Dec 8, 2010

I have an older RHEL 3 server that is running nfs v 2. I have a backup appliance that I need to mount to it, but the appliance is only compatible with nfs 3 or 4. i cant mount it to my RHEL 3 box. I have searched redhat and can't find an rpm to upgrade nfs on this box. Does anyone know if there is a way i can download the source for nfs 3 or 4 somewhere and then compile it on my RHEL 3 box?

i just jumped into linux with both feet not having a clue what im doing.. loaded ubuntu 10.10.. liked it but i couldnt get stellarium to work with my ati x1300, so i upgraded to 11.4 and it works fine.. problem is.. i have a applications start on the left side, but i cant seem to find the setup like in 10.10 at the top, where you can go to terminal, admin, synaptic, etc.. the only way i found synaptic was trying to download it and asked me if i wanted to keep it in the bar, so now its on the left, but cant find anything else.. ive been trying to find it on the net but 11.4 seems to be so new that there arent very many faqs or tutorials about it..it would be nice if i can get that stuff back without having to format and reinstall 10.10.. im not going back to windows.. so i might as well figure this out..

Programming :: Netbeans Cannot Find Stddef.h After Upgrade?

Sep 19, 2010

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. All was going well until netbeans started throwing up errors about not being able to find the "stddef.h" header being called from the stdio and stdlib headers. Now I am unable to even initialize variables without failing.

I was using 6.9.1 from the netbeans website, but then I installed 6.9 from the repos alongside, and I still get the same error. Do I need to remove 6.9.1 ( I would rather remove it and keep the repo version), and if so, how do I do it?

where the stddef.h file is located so that I can replace it, or know of any work around?

Slackware :: Sane - After Upgrade To 1.0.22 Cannot Find Scanner

Mar 24, 2011

I have a Samsung SCX-4200. It was working pretty good with sane 1.0.21. I'm using slackware current, keeping updated (almost) every day. On the Mon Feb 28 update sane was updated to sane-1.0.22-i486-1. After that update xsane (as user) cannot find my scanner. I was able to find it running sane-find-scanner as root, but scanimage -L (as root) wasn't able to find the scanner. Now I have updated to the last sane package, named sane-1.0.22-i486-2 . In the changelog I can see that this rebuild should add libusb support.

In fact, now there's no way to find the scanner. And now also sane-find-scanner (as root) is no more able to detect the scanner, also running the command as root. I've tried running sane-find-scanner -v -v and scanimage -v -v -L but I can't get no useful hints. I have checked the sane configuration files but always seems good (the row with USB IDs is not commented in the backend file, which is xerox_mfp, and the backend is listed in dll.conf).

OpenSUSE :: 11.4 Upgrade - Cannot Find Adobe Helvetica Font

Apr 16, 2011

I recently upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4, KDE 4.6.1. I have /home on a separate partition and it was unchanged in the upgrade. If I open Personal Settings-Application Appearance-Fonts, one of my font choices is Adobe Helvetica. If I open Gimp, open a new file, I can select Adobe Helvetica as a font and insert text in my new file. If I open Inkscape (svg drawing application), I can select Adobe Helvetica as a font, text is inserted but when I reselect it for editing, the window indicates that the font is just Sans. (Inkscape has some font selection wierdness, but keep reading). If I open LibreOffice, Adobe Helvetica is NOT on the font list for selection.

If I run
Code:
fc-list |grep Adobe
Adobe Courier:style=Bold
Adobe Utopia:style=Italic
Adobe Times:style=Bold
Adobe Helvetica:style=Bold Oblique
Adobe New Century Schoolbook:style=Bold Italic
Adobe Utopia:style=Bold
Adobe Utopia:style=Regular
Adobe Helvetica:style=Oblique
Adobe Courier:style=Oblique
Adobe New Century Schoolbook:style=Italic
Adobe New Century Schoolbook:style=Bold
Adobe Utopia:style=Bold Italic
Adobe Times:style=Regular
Adobe Times:style=Bold Italic
Adobe Times:style=Italic
Adobe Helvetica:style=Bold
Adobe Helvetica:style=Regular
Adobe New Century Schoolbook:style=Regular
Adobe Courier:style=Regular
Adobe Courier:style=Bold Oblique

However, I cannot find any files named Adobe Helvetica or Helvetica in /usr/share/fonts/* and I am not really sure it is installed. My suspicion is that the upgrade process preserving /home has the system looking at some old information, and that gimp and Inkscape are doing font replacement, while LibreOffice is doing it's own thing. What is the best procedure to refresh the system info on what fonts really are loaded?

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Upgrade On 11.1 - Cannot Find Module After Reboot

Nov 10, 2010

I've upgraded kernel 2.6.27.48-0.2-default to 2.6.27.54-0.1.1 on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to 2.6.27.48-0.3-default where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for 2.6.27.48-0.2-default which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.

Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the 2.6.27.48-0.2-default kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.

Fedora Installation :: Fail Upgrade Attempt - Unable To Find Root

May 26, 2010

I am attempting to upgrade Fedora 12 to 13. I get an error screen that said root could not be found. Four options are given. Not sure exactly their wording, but two appear to allow you to cancel the other two warn that if you reinitialize you will wipe out all data.

I have a Vista partition and a Fedora partition. I've added the vista ntfs partition to fstab with no help. All of the partition use the long UUID form. I added the root location (root (hd0,5) to the upgrade menu item in grub.conf and that didn't work either.

I'm reluctant to proceed for fear of initializing the entire drive. I could live with installing Fedora 13 over the existing partitions.
