I just finished set up a PXE server, and was wondering is it possible to automated save/redirect files from the client into server? Basically, test will be running on client, and wanted to save the result(text file) into server after done testing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some time now, I'm having some problems with configuring an NFSv4 server to let it work with a firewall. I've already searched to web, but I was unable to find a solution that works for me.
The situation is as follows:
I'm trying to connect an NFS client to an NFS server that is behind a firewall. I don't have access to this firewall, but I can contact the administrator to open some ports for me. I already did this for opening port 2049.
The result is that the client can read files from the server, but is unable to write files to the server. I believe that for writing an extra RPC-connection needs to be set up. However, the ports on which the RPC-connection is set up, seem to be different for every connection (I verified this using 'netstat -tn').
Clearly, this is a problem since the server is protected by the firewall.
Thus, what I want to do is configure the server in such a way, that it always uses the same server-side port(s) to connect with the writing clients (just like 2049 for reading). I've already tried to configure the /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server and /etc/default/nfs-common files, but that hasn't really worked out yet.
Note: Because I don't like to contact the system admin every day, I hooked up 2 computers (client/server) on which I set up the same configuration (without the firewall). I'd like to see it working on those machines first (that is, 'netstat -tn' showing the correct port), before I contact the admin to open some extra ports.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post and I am a linux newbie.. took on the challenge of setting up an ubuntu server with proxy and firewall with vpn access as well.. sounds good? While messing with things, I installed ebox server, know called Zentyal and perform backups, however, when performing a full restore, following instructions and all it does not restore correctly. I ran many attempts with verious configurations and still allways got some errors, such as eboc-ebackup failing to start, etc. most noteably wa sthe ldap error, which i figured out how to fix by restarting once logged into and then rebooting.
I say the Clonezilla options for a full backup, and it sounds great, but does require me to perform a full abckup, while bring the server down to perform. What I wanted to know, was what do you recommend for performing a full backup (possibly to NTFS partition or USB key with FAT32) with automation or even if i had to perform the trigger, just without needing to bring the server down, so when i go into production i dont have any issues backing up anytime?
just thought i would throw this out there as a google search doesnt even come back with what i need. I have setup proftp with a mysql auth on a debian box. When i save files or try to modify them i get an error. Ie i dont have permission. When i look at the permissions for the files, it has a 2001 user permission and a ftpgroup as the group permission.
I want it to be ftpuser and ftpgroup with readable and writable permissions for the user and group. This is my second proftp box and i basiclly copied the config files over from the old box.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on some scheduled task script files to keep nightly backups of some of our database information in place, and it's a bit annoying when they blow up. I know how to redirect stdout and stderr to a flat file I can view when I come in, and I know that 2>&1 maps them both to the same file (whatever was named in 1). However, I'm running into some cron-time situations where it's easier to have the two streams together, and other cron-time situations where it's easier to have them separated. I can't really tell which is going to happen; is there some way I could create both kinds of output file for my scripts, so that I've got a std_err only file and an interleaved std_out/std_err file?
Note: I've looked at the 'tee' command, but I don't think it will work for what I'm after. 'tee' appears to only work with stdout; I'm trying to work with stderr.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been having some PC troubles since yesterday after downloading VistaOSx onto my computer. (I don't know why I downloaded it, I was bored.) Well now I have a virus on my computer that wont let windows start. Every time I go to turn on my computer, I get a black screen with just my mouse pointer.
So, I went looking for the disk that the guys at FRY'S gave me after they worked on my computer, and it was an MSI disk, and I booted from it, and now I'm in some OS called Winki 3 which is linux based and I don't know what I'm doing, to my surprise, I'm online.
I need to be able to get my computer working again, and I don't want to loose any of my files if I have to reinstall windows. I have a few questions before I start getting into this and try to get my computer to work but only mess it up worse.
1) What in the world is Winki 3? I've never heard of it.
2) How can I execute a .exe file? I'm trying to see if I can run my virus scan to get rid of whatever it is that is screwing with my computer.
3) I can see all my program files and everything, so I need to save some stuff on my USB's in case I do need to reinstall windows so that way I don't loose anything. How do I do that?
4) I know this isn't a place to ask windows questions, but I must. I don't have a restore disk, or a reboot disk or whatever, just this MSI disk that brought me to this Winki 3. How can I restore my computer without the restore disk, and without taking it to some place that's going to charge me an arm and a leg? There has to be some way, I mean I have this Winki 3 running, I should be able to do something that will restore the computer back to the default factory settings after I save all my files onto my USB's, right?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe server is named alpha and is running Archlinux. It is exporting a directory named /files. The server is a couple of years old and I have accessed it extensively from clients running Arch, Suse, PCLinuxOS, and maybe some others, all with no problems. The clients (3 of them) are new installations of Linux Mint 10 (Julia). When I mount the nfs all of the nfs files are visible as expected. However, the owner/group is drastically different than on the server.
I might add that I have set up user id's and group id's the same. My user is 1003 on all systems, and the users group is 100 on all systems. When I am on alpha (via ssh), here is a partial file listing.

If have searched the Mint forums, LQ forums, and google in general. I must be missing something in my search because I can't believe that no one else has this same problem and I am having it on 3 different boxes.
I'm carrying out a project for my university (CIT in Cork, Ireland) and I'm using CentOS running over WMware. I have a server and a client. The server has no GUI (command line UI) while the client has a UI. I need to install a Simple Forum Machine application and I'm told to FTP the files into the server. I figured out that the best option is to load the files in the client via the GUI and then ftp them in the server. How do I transfer the files from a the client t o the server using FTP? I'm totally new to Linux so the more details the better. Also I'm trying to mount a USB key on the server but have had no luck.

I have set up an openvpn server on ubuntu via port tcp 443. The server use a public network and almost every ports are blocked (not 443) So when a client connect to the server, if it send traffic needing a blocked port, the connection cannot been etablished of course. So i d like to know if it is possible to redirect all incoming traffic on the server to an other unblocked port (like 443) to bypass firewall.
I dont think openvpn offer this possibility but maybe with linux it is possible..

Ok, this ol' fudge is trying to figure out how to save some files to a Live Thumbdrive USBboot of Kiwi10.08 which is running on the Ubuntu 10.04.1 desktop. Using the included File Manager, I can access the fat32 USB flashdrive, read the folder named "Buk" I created in XP at the root of the drive and displayed as "isodevices/Buk" when viewed through "System Files" or "Files System", which ever it is. The options to copy/move itesm to that folder are greyed out or missing. Both copy and move options seem to work as normal otherwise on the desktop. I should check and see if it is even saving/modifying items there but I would almost guess to be correct in saying... NO! As i said this is a kind of Live boot from the Kiwi ISO.I was told about "Chown" but I have not a clue of it and the Wiki just made my head ring.One more question, where can I find a good ol' Linux Dunce Reference that wont confuse you more. Don't get me wrong, I tried math for dummies once, it confused me more, so I re-wrote the pages as I went, or thats what we're suppose to do ?

I am using Xfce as the desktop enviroment and Mozilla Firefox as the webrowser. Within the webrowser window, I do File>Save Page As. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.

As ServerB only allows login with username+password the whole stuff gets more complex. SSH provides key authentication enabling passwordless login as you probably know. When I open the NFS Client on another host and select "Choose", there is popup that states "Scanning for hosts on this LAN...". Then it returns an error "No NFS server found on your network. ..." That's funny because I had previously mounted the two exported directories already by entering the server name manually. How do I get the NFS server to respond to an automated search?
