General :: An Isolated System In Total Chroot Running Lighttpd, Mysql, Ssh - Get "Connection Refused"?

Basically they all cover running a 32bit app running on 64bit host and so on.I want to have an isolated system in total chroot (running lighttpd, mysql, ssh, etc from there).(For security reasons I have to isolate the dev from the live one.) So I installed the chroot environment, mounted all the neccessary things and chrooted in. Everything went fine. Edited /etc/ssh/sshd_config to use port 22222 instead of 22. Used service ssh start then. It says service running but if I try this: ssh -p 22222 localhost I get "Connection refused". The chrooted is system is very minimal so far so there is no firewall, hosts.allow/deny or anything.
ps.: The chroot environment will be a development area as I already mentioned. I thought chroot is the easiest way but if you say KVM is better or something I can go for it. The machine is easily capable of running even 10 VMs easily.
what the procedure is to file bugs against slackware so I will post here. The rc.lighttpd I have works but the function to check if lighttpd is running has an exception when there's no lighttpd.
I'm try to setup a database server using mysql, the server starts fine, and I can access it using the built in mysql client via console (adding databases and tables works fine), but the problem is... I always get a connection refused error whenever I access the database outside the built in mysql client (example, if I write a code that connects to mysql). So, I tried execute an nmap command and the only ports open are these ports:

there's no 3306 for mysql... I'm thinking that the firewall is just blocking the port that mysql is using, but my question is, how could the built in client connect to the server if there's no open port for mysql server? Don't clients usually access a servers through ports?
recently we decided to make our own panel (like Plesk or cPanel) but for Ubuntu and it will be licenced under GPL (like any other professional sofware).want to make a panel not only that fits our needs but also the needs of other system administrators and domain owners. We researched other panels and found out that non of them has security/look/ease of use in one package. Bad codig is another problem found in other panels.I made a short overwiev of what I think we have to have in the beginning.I Security :1. Completely chroot enviornoment where every single service is in chroot mode (bind,mysql, postfix, .... )2. Easily managed IPtables trough web-based interface. 3. Coding rules has to be strict.

I have been trying for weeks to solve this one and have researched everywhere I know to look. Nothing has helped. I am trying to ssh to my other machine (machine1=galla, machine2=cachin). Both run Maverick Meerkat 10.10. I get the following error when trying to ssh to galla:ssh: connect to host galla port 22: Connection refused

I imagine herein lies the problem. But why won't it stay running?I am not running any firewall on galla (iptables -L told me that).P.S. I can sucessfully ssh out of galla to cachin. And, even if I just try to ssh localhost on galla, same thing happens.
I have 2 servers.. let say server A and server B On server A open ssh is configured and is running on port 2298. So from my machine I can login there using ssh on port 2298 But when I login to server B and from there I try to connect to server A I cannot. ssh: connect to host <ipaddress here> port 2298: Connection refused
I had configured MySQL Server (Distrib 5.1.41) on My Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid sever.I had installed mysql through apt-get install.Now every thing including replication is done and working fine.Now i had a requirement to run MySQL in chroot environment.Is it possible to change the the existing env to chroot or do i need to install and configure every thing from scratch..
I got connecting to our NAS over NFS working perfectly. Direct NAS Reading & Writing - How? But on Saturday I found out it had stopped working. For no apparent reason, not straight after an update either I don't think. When I manually try to mount --verbose:

Corresponding fstab line that used to work just fine. 192.168.100.14:/IHL /mnt/IHL nfs auto 0 0 For now, I can drop back to Samba but this is a PITA as I can't open OpenOffice documents and write to them directly on the NAS. The fact smb://192.168.100.14/IHL works proves networking wise we're cool too. There is no firewall between this PC and the NAS, the NAS is instructed to allow my PC's LAN IP full access. OpenSuse's software firewall has been told to allow NFS Client too. Why would this setup break out of nowhere? How can I debug this best? I see nothing relevant in /var/log/messages How can I get it to work again? A hopeful reboot didn't do its usual wonders...
Does this mean that all of my network interfaces are listening as opposed to just one specific network interface? Would 0.0.0.0 include 127.0.0.1?
Also, this computer(A) is on a LAN at my house. It has two network interfaces(eth0 & eth1), both on different subnets. I can connect from another computer(B) on my LAN to this one on one interface(eth0) via SSH just fine. The other interface(eth1) on this computer is hooked up to it's own gateway to the internet using DSL. I'm using this interface(eth1) for running bind.
Anyhow, here's my issue. When using a computer(C), which is a hosted VM , from outside my LAN, to connect to computer(A) via SSH, I get connection refused. So I checked my hosts.deny & hosts.allow files, both empty. I run nmap from computer C and SSH comes up as closed. So I'm thinking it's a firewall issue.

I've been meaning to learn more about iptables, but which chain is for which network interface? I have also tried running nmap from computer(C) to test bind out on tcp 53 that comes up closed. I run udp 53 and that comes up as closed but then again udp is funny because it's stateless. If I run netcat on udp port 53 from computer C I get a blank line as if it's still running. However, I get that for all other ports anyways so that's of no use.
Unless my AT&T DSL is blocking those ports. But if that were the case would the error 'Connection refused' come up when I try to connect via SSH?
I now have a .tar.gz that has been created during my script, and finnaly i need to upload it via ftp to my computer, but i am unable to because i keep getting the "Connection refused" error, despite the fact that all the syntax appears to be right. in a bout of frustration, i have deleted the code and now no longer have what i had written.. so could someone please let me know the syntax to upload a file to a server? I am aware that other threads have been started about this issue but I am trying to ftp from an iPhone to a computer...

When trying to sendmail from host1 to an email address stored on host2. but with the format username@host1, the sendmail service returns Connection refused by host1.

I reinstalled unbuntu server recently and i am trying to get it to only allow one computer to accsess it. So after doing this etc/ssh/ sudo nano sshd_config I uncomment #ListenAddress 0.0.0.0 Ok so i am trying to accsess my server from a windows machine so i tpyed ipconfig /all to find my ip I found the IPV4 address and i put that address like so ListenAddress 192.168.1.22 But when i try and connect it says connection refused.
I've used fetchmail for quite a while now and never had a problem, until (without having changed anything) today it suddenly quit working, giving me the error message:

I tried to finally set-up surround sound on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine and i was successful in doing so after a while of changing settings and tinkering. After doing so though, i was later in the day not able to get into the Pulseaudio Volume Control, therefore, everything is stuck where it is and i can't change anything. When i try to open Pulseaudio Volume Control i get the error message, Connection failed, Connection refused. My programs still play sound and i can control the sound of the programs through the programs, but i cant control the sound of the sorround sound now and my main sound bar only affects my stereo speakers, not the surround ones.
I believe this may have happened after the random disk check on restart, but i can't 100% confirm that and i'm not even sure if they are related. I still have sound, but i have no way to control the volume of my entire system at once. I did some looking around online and saw that others are having or had the same issue, and it was through different versions of Linux also. somehow reset everything so i can access PAVC and start over . I also tried steps listed in another thread here on the same topic, but they weren't working and it also seemed to be for older Ubuntu versions.
I'm trying to create a PAN (Personal Area Network) using a laptop (Siragon ML-1040) and my desktop computer, but I get the Connection Refused (111) error.
Blueman doesn't detect any network service between the two computers unless I start PAND on one of them and then it detects the NAP service. That, only after I enable the NAP/Workgroup services on the Services submenu in Blueman. However, it doesn't work neither with the NM plugins or without them (dhclient and that other one I can't remember the name of).
Any clues over here? I'm using pand 4.91 and blueman.
The server I am working with is running CentOS 5.x. MySQL and FTP access is tunnelled through SSH using OpenSSH. Users are chrooted to their home directory as follows:
User: tristan Home: /web/tristan/
Now, up to this point everything works fine (FTP access) except for MySQL tunnelling. The application I use for MySQL administration is Navicat. It allows me to access the remote SQL server as though it's local using a SSH tunnel. The problem is that I am unable to create a connection to the SQL server through tunnelling unless chroot is removed for the user. Once chroot is removed, I am able to connect to the SQL server just fine via tunnelling. However, ow when using SFTP, the user's "home" directory is now the root of the drive (which is what we don't want).
I wish I could give you more information about the configuration. Another user set this server up and unfortunately I will not be able to access the machine until a few days from now so my information is limited.

I am trying to monitorize an OpenWRT (Backfire 10.03, r23115) router from an Ubuntu server, but I am having some problems. I have installed Nrpe (2.12) on the remote host (OpenWRT), I have executed the program as a deamon (/usr/sbin/nrpe -d) but when I start the NRPE deamon, I don't get anything about NRPE executing netstat -at or ps -ef.I would need to install check_nrpe on OpenWRT to find out if NRPE is working, but I can't find any ipk package with it.
