I have 1000 jpg files in which all have a white background. Is is possible to change the white background color to red (for example) of all the files in order not to have to do it one by one ?
I would prefer to use Linux but I can handle Windows.
For example, change this Logo with white background to red background.
I have a router that is 1000 Base T and two computers each with ethernet cards that support 1000 Base T. All are equipped with Cat 5e cable. Before I had a router that only went up to 100 Base T and I would setup one box with linux running proftpd. On the other box,I would use win xp pro and use firefox to ftp into the other box and download a file. Download speeds went up to 11.2 MB/sec. Now when I switched routers, I expected something like 120 MB/sec but I'm only getting 5.3 MB/sec. What do I need to change?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives in my desktop. One HD has a working Ubuntu system-hence the ability to post here- and the other contains Windows XP Pro. When the XP drive crashed I was able to re-install an image I had saved using Acronis. Unfortunately the dual-boot option at startup is no longer available. I can only boot to Ubuntu. Not so bad really but there are some programs on Windows that I need to use. Is there any way, using Grub perhaps, that I can reconfigure an MBR to include the second hard drive and the Windows system?

At 192.168.0.2, "telnet 192.168.0.4" make connection successfully at port 23, however "telnet 192.168.0.4 1000" does not make connection at port 1000.
I have tried several different distros - but none seems to work. The pc is a HP mini 1000 with 16 Gb flashdisk, 1 Gb ram, American keyboard. It had an Win Xp installed when it was bought. Later it worked with an Ubuntu. My older son, who owned the pc before me, will not give me his password. He wanted me to install a fresh, new Linux.
I have now tried to install Ubuntu, Knoppix, PcLinux, Mandriva, Feodora and a few more, using the universal usb installer. Ubuntu, Slacks and Mandriva works fine from the usb-key. But when I try to install to the minis flashdisk, it freezes.
Ubuntu stops during the install process just after I have selected the keybord (I have tried default English and Danish).
Mandriva lets me format the flashdisk, but freezes with white screen just before the install is finished. There after Mandriva can start booting from the minis flashdisk, but it stops for a long time showing the startup screen. After very long time I get a terminal screen asking for login name and password. (I guess Mandriva wants the password from my sons Linux installation).
I have a Seagate Expansion external drive.
It won't load as it is NTFS. Am I okay to reformat it using GParted? I'm unable to get the drive up in a window, but GParted can see it.
Xubuntu is great don't get me wrong, but there's a few things I don't like about it. So my main question is, I've installed ubuntu-desktop package, how can I remove Xubuntu and just keep it as Ubuntu without having to reformat? I'd even like to change the boot screen to show Ubuntu instead of Xubuntu.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just erased +200GB worth of photos, documents, music and videos on my external hard drive.I wanted to try the new Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Alpha 2, so I downloaded the .iso, launched the live USB disk creator and tried to format my 1GB pendrive to make room for the OS. Somehow, I ended formatting my 320GB external USB hard drive. The hard drive had to partitions (one EXT3 and one NTFS), but now it only has a FAT partition that spans the whole drive.I understand that the new FAT partition may have erased the EXT3 data structures at the beggining of the partition, making file recovery next to impossible.A confirmation dialog on the live USB disk creator wouldn't have hurted either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a working dell deminsions, no problems 2gb of ram, all that good stuff running xp.I have an older HP Pavilion with about 1Gb of ram, running windows 98. There were some issues with the partitions and registries and i want to install Linux over it to fix all issues and make it a working computer again.I burnt the ISO as an image on a cd using, Nero. no problems with the cd. I could not get the Hp to recognize the cd, and it wont boot. So i took the HDD out of the HP and put it into my dell. I can get to the Install part of the setup and that's where it goes to just a black screen with a flashing cursor.I am considering, booting to XP and reformatting the disk, and trying to install it using the HP again.

Lets say I put a 900mb file on my 4gb flash drive, then I delete it. It will still ll me that only 3100MB are left in free space. If I try to add more than that it tells me the drive is full. I keep reformatting and reformatting into all different types on file systems but nothing works.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having difficulty repairing/reformatting a USB drive. I've yet to explore and get me on the right track. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. I have a generic USB drive, 4GB, currently formatted FAT. I can't save files to it, can't format it using Ubuntu's Disk Utility. Attempts to format using Disk Utility return the following error:
Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: Error calling fsync(2) on /dev/sdb: Input/output error Yesterday I got fed up and tried to just zero the thing out using a dd command... ran it in verbose, the right stuff returned to screen, still no dice. I can't get it to a point where I can format it either using Disk Utility or mkfs.
My wireless connection has always slow on my ubuntu desktop. I have always thought this was a matter of hardware, but after reformatting my harddrive because of recent problems, the wireless has slowed to point of ridiculousness. I would guess I had a dial-up connection if I didn't know better. I've tried simple things like rebooting and removing add-ons, but nothing seems to work.

Some background:
- the disk images are from the reboot disks that came with my labtop
- I do not have access to windows
Edits:
Using gparted, I turned my external hard drive into a bootable and put both ISO disc on it. Once I plugged it in my labtop and turned my labtop on, I get an error messages that says "BOOTMGR is missing".
- I ripped the both ISO images from the 2 system recovery disc that I ordered from HP specially for my brand of laptop.
- My CD-ROM drive does not work, or else I would have just used the disc regularly
- The operating system currently on the labtop is Ubuntu 10.04
I have Dell XPS M1330, i had Windows 7 x64 installed on a partition of the hard drive. I installed Ubuntu 10.1 64-bit on a an unallocated partition. Ubuntu installed fine except now when i restart my computer i dont get to chose which OS i want to use and Ubuntu starts automatically. What can i do to get to chose the OS at startup?

View 4 Replies View RelatedXP and Ubuntu are on different drives and they were booting ok prior the the reformatting. With the Ubuntu drive selected as the 1st hd boot device in Bios: I can boot into Ubuntu ok if I select it in the Grub2 menu If I select XP in the Grub menu I get:

If I select the XP drive as the 1st hd boot device in Bios I can boot straight into XP.So that is ok. Whenever I start XFce, about 20 Nautilus windows also start up, choking the system and generally being a nuisance. I don't even use Nautilus as my file manager under XFce, and whenever I try to delete it or set it not to run on the XFce session manager, it still appears on next startup. I've tried to find where XFce stores its session information - deleting Nautilus shortcuts from ~/.config/session-state did nothing - and had no luck. I'm using Ubuntu (not xubuntu) Lucid.

I can mount the laptop's windows partition with no issues using NTFS Config (after installing hal), but every time after I reboot ubuntu tells me that it cannot mount the windows partition. If I reopen NTFS config after reboot now my previously-mounted partition shows as having 0Gb of data and there is a new /host partition that represents the windows partition. I can then mount it again by renaming it into /media/Windows and it again works until a reboot.

i am using fedora 14. Each time i login i have to manually mount my windows drives. Is there any script or system setting which will help me to auto mount my windows drive on startup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter booting, the sda5 and sda8 mounts work fine, but the Windows shares haven't been mounted. If I enter the command: mount -a everything works fine. I don't know if this a timing issue, or something to do with the new systemd stuff, but it has happened in previous Fedora releases from time to time.

So, I have to open up a Terminal window, and issue sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/Windows and everything is fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu (the full version). I liked Wubi a lot, but that's because I just had to press down and enter during startup. After uninstalling it, I went to the full version, but that's been giving me more trouble than Wubi, lol.
First, it replaced my Windows Boot Manager with GRUB (which IMO sucks because it takes like 15 seconds to load the menu and it lags when you want to press an arrow key). Second, it screwed up my Windows (the first time I started up Windows I got like 50 lines of errors and after that I had to do the disk check thing but now it works). I use Vista x32, and when I try to boot into Windows it gets to the (C)Microsoft with the green loading bars thing and after about 5-10 seconds my computer randomly (without warning, the screen just turns black) restarts. Goes back to the BIOS menu, a full restart.
My first priority is to get Windows fully running without restarts during boot time. Then I'd like to use Windows boot manager to start Ubuntu (I checked with EasyBCD, Ubuntu doesn't show in WBM.
Oh BTW, dual-booting ubuntu 10.04 and WinVista SP2.
i just installed Ubuntu from an ISO about a year old and of course i updated it to the latest version and when i get that screen at startup where i have a choice of which version to load i get something like this: My current version, memtest, an old installation of Ubuntu and some really old versions. The problem is i also have Windows7 and Vista installed(vista really needs to go) but i don't have either of them as a choice in the bootloader. How do i get it back? Also before the update i had it on the list.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched around but did not find anything similar, so I make a new post. I have installed Mac4Lin icons, theme and font, and I am using Emerald (with "emerald --replace" command in the window manager of compiz) and everythin is fine.
Some few times (every 4~5 days), when I start the system, it opens up as the title, like Emerald is not starting or something. If I logoff and then logon again, it is fine. Not that is a serious problem... just annoying in case you want to demonstrate the "power of the system" in an important meeting and it shows up like that.
