I am trying to connecting to Wi-Fi from using my Windows 7. But as my keyboard is not working properly I am not able to switch on the Wi-Fi.Is there any hack I can do to switch on the Wi-Fi from Windows 7 or Linux?
What's the best way to establish a VNC connection to a computer located behind a firewall/router, to which you don't have access? I have a home Linux computer on a Comcast connection, which explicitly blocks incoming requests, so I can't hit the IP directly, but I'd like to remote into it from an arbitrary Internet connection. How would I work around this?
I've witnessed some commercial products, such as one employed by Dell tech support, which appears to use a public web server, which you visit from the target computer in order to "expose" it to an incoming VNC connection. Is there anything similar that's free/cheap for personal use?
I have Ubuntu(k)partitioned with WindowsXP home edition(sp3) on a Dell Dimension 9100 MN: 0x8582 512mb RAM; NVIDIA geForce 7600 GS 266Mhz; Intel Pentium 4 630 CPU 3 Ghz. I'm using Lynksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter /Speed Booster MN:WPM54GS and have downloaded NDISWrapper and NDISGTK.
How do i set up a remote desktop connection from my Windows 7 machine to a SFTP server im trying to set up running on Fedora 10.Ive installed vnc server on fedora, and tried tightvnc and real vncviewer on windows and i cant get it to connect. Im not sure how the firewall works in fedora, but ive added the port to the "other ports" section of the firewall. On the windows firewall ive also added the vnc programs to the exception list.
how to get my wireless connection to work on the network. I don't see anywhere to go to see if the wireless adapter is even setup in Fedora. My other question is when I boot up and get the options to select the OS the first one is Fedora but the other one says it is other.
I think that is is booting up the recovery partion of Windows. I don't know how to change it so that it is looking at the correct portition. I know it has something to do with the menu.lst file but when I try to open it says that I do not have premission. I am not sure where to go to edit it.
On PC-BSD 8.1 (KDE) I have four workspaces. I want to launch rdesktop 1.6 in one of them, full screen if possible (I'll settle for nearly-full in a window if I have to), and be able to do the following:
Switch between windows in the remote session using Alt+Tab. Switch between local workspaces using either the default Ctrl+F1 or what I've switched it to, my preferred Alt+F1.
It seems if I use the -K option, I get 2 but not 1. If I don't, I get 1 but not 2. Is there no way to do this? How can I tell rdesktop to send or not send a specific key combination?
I have RHEL 5 installed on VMware 6.0 and the host OS is Windows 7. My Host is connected to internet using a wireless connection and works on shared IP. Earlier when I had Windows vista as host I have managed to get the internet connection on the RHEL but do not remember how I managed it. Now I need help in setting the internet connection on RHEL. I have set up a NAT connection. But of no use.
Each time I start up debian -lenny, the network-manager does not automatically connect me to my wireless network. The connection list shows a lot of networks available, but mine is always absent from the list. This means I each time have to go to "Connect to other Wireless Network" in and write in my network name (SSID) and password (PWA2 Personal). Then is connects nicely and everything works fine until next time I boot
I would like to have all traffic from the ethernet connection out through the wireless (basically using the box as a router) however I am having some trouble doing this.
I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)
at present i have a windows PC with 2 odbc connections 1 to Linux / mysql the other to novell server (micro focus cobol in read only mode) i use access on the windows PC to run query's on novell and write them to mysql on the Linux machine. this is very slow and causes problems because of access limitations. i cant connect the Linux box into the novell server as our IT Manager will not allow this but i can copy the data files to the windows PC first.
How can i connect to the windows PC to access the odbc link on there, and what program would i use for this, would mysql be able to do this? if this cant be done then i can use samba to view the files on the windows PC but then how do i set up an link into the data files (on the windows PC a micro focus cobol driver had to be installed) how would to connect mysql to this ?
I would to make a VNC connection from my Ubuntu (8.10) to a Windows 2003 server and would to know if in any VNC solutions I must install a vnc client on my ubuntu and a vnc server on my Windows ? is it possible to connect to my w2k3 without installing any program on it ? Just like it was a TSE connection between 2 Windows.
I have shared an internet connection in windows on my laptop computer and I tried to configure Fedora 11 to use this internet connection on my desktop computer.
My network configuration on Fedora 11:
My network configuration on Windows XP (SP2):
I can even access the files stored on my laptop but I can't use the shared internet connection.
I'm unable to connect to a windows vpn connection using pptp this was working yesterday but for some strange reason it stopped working. My other vpn tunnels to cisco and so on are working great. I have the following log:
[Code]....
Nov 26 17:05:15 falx NetworkManager[1319]: <info> VPN service 'pptp' disappeared I have the latest updates, so that means that selinux was updated today. My selinux policy was enforcing but I changed it to disable and allready rebooted. Iḿ using Fedora 14 (I already regret for making the upgrade from 13, also have a problem with display drivers or something, but thats another story) does anyone encounter a problem like mine with pptp? can you share the solution if there is one?
Alexandre. Update: At the moment after connecting by Ethernet cable to my home network the connection wold be established but no address would work to the remote network, I've disconnected the cable and resumed using my wifi connection and the VPN connection is working again!! I don't have a clue about what just happened.. since itś working I need to get some work done and will provide more info on this matter if I found something new.
I have a Windows XP Professional desktop that I would like to remote connect to from my Ubuntu 9.10 laptop. I would like to connect in such a way that the current user of the XP machine doesn't get logged off when I connect. I have googled this subject and have been unable to find this exact subject. I am fairly comfortable using the terminal although I am still learning it. I have heard FreeNX is a good program but from what I can tell it's only used to connect from Windows to Ubuntu. Is this correct? I would also like to remote connect from the above mentioned laptop to the XP machine while at work over the internet if that's possible.
I am trying to connect with Winsock Windows sockets from a PC running Windows XP with a utility program that enables a dialogue over sockets. I have the listener running on Ubuntu on Port 6330. I can telnet to the listener and interact from both the Ubuntu desktop and the XP PC. But my utility program using Winsock is unable to connect. I have no firewalls impeding this. Maybe there is a better vehicle than the Windows Winsock.dll? I dont need network file access, just TCP ports/.sockets.
I have 2 computers, one running Windows 7 (and connected to my router wirelessly) and another running the latest Ubuntu Server version and I am just wondering, since I've already got the windows machine to share the internet connection via their LAN connection, how would I get the Ubuntu to use it?
Thought about posting in the Networking board, but I believe this is a much more security-oriented thread. So let's say I bring my computer to a public place, say a library with one open, public, shared wireless network. I connect to that network. Let's assume that everyone else who's connected is using Windows. Can they see my computer (through Network Manager or other software) and attack it (SYN flood or something)? Or does it depend on the network settings?
At my grandparents house, there is a Wi-Fi network that we can (sometimes) connect to. However, it lately hasn't been allowing our Win 7 laptops to connect. It does let my Wii and my iPod Touch connect with no problems. I've tried restarting, but that doesn't work. We don't have access to the router, so we can't reset that. I would really like this fixed since mobile Safari is not the best browser in the world and WiiNet is even worse..
Note: Neither of the laptops are mine (one is my sister's and one is my parents'). I would never allow a computer of mine to use such an operating system.
I would want to connect to Ubuntu 10.10 via windows. i have tried to connect to it using my IP address locally and it works however when i try to access it from outside (not Locally) it does not work - I keep getting the message IP Does not exist or something?
I have created a MLPPP connection using pppd(s).My PPP config file is as follow code...
Now after connecting a TCP socket from peer entity, I am getting certain Window Overflow errors which means that request is greater than receiver's advertise windows size. The peer is not in Linux. On running wireshark I have found these windows size PPPd= 1040 ;Peer=1000
For ethernet the connection made successfully. Ethernet=6500 ; Peer=1000
Is there anyway, to increase windows size in case of PPP connections?
I'm trying to do a ssh connection (using Quest Putty) from Windows to Linux. As linux are joined to Active Directory, is possible to do a SSO (using kerberos). If I connect from linux to linux using ssh, it works fine. If I connect form Windows (Win7) to Linux using Quest Putty or Centrify Putty, an error is displayed:
Code: C:Program FilesCentrifyCentrify PuTTY>Plink.exe -A -K -v serverl001.jed Looking up host "serverl001.buss.red" Connecting to 10.16.44.234 port 22 Server version: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.4 We claim version: SSH-2.0-PuTTY_Release_0.60_(Centrify_GSS_1.4)
Trying to set up a VPN connection from with Virtual Windows XP (virtualbox) and the network shows verifying user name and password but then times out and give me a message that it could not connect to the serve.
Since I could connect from a Windows system at another location, I assume there is something in Ubuntu that is preventing the connection so I tried to set up a VPN connection in Ubuntu.
I installed "network-manager-pptp" and "pptp-linux" as mentioned in the documentation but when I try to create a VPN connection using [main menu]>[System]>[Preferences]>[network connections] the VPN tab has a padlock on it. I set up the VPN but did not put a DOMAIN name on it because the server does not have a DOMAIN and it did not appear to be necessary on the dedicated Windows machine.
In spite of configuring the VPN connection, I cannot find the connection anywhere so I can see the server at the other end.
When I try to use [main menu]>[places]>[Connect to Server] using [windows share] and enter the IP number of the server, I get the message "Cannot display location smb:// {server IP address}"
And if anyone knows why the Virtual windows cannot connect.
From the command shell, how do I get to a network connected drive?I do a "Connect to Server" -> "Windows share" and connect to one of my Windows XP systems. Everything is fine. But how do I get to that drive from the command line prompt so I can do terminal commands or open files programmatically (hmmm is that spelled right?) Thus far, I see no way to do it.
i have an evdo connection with which i connect to the internet. i have been trying to share this connection for quite a few days from my lucid machine to a windows 7 pc but have failed. i have tried dhcp3-server, firestarter, network manager's built in capabilities but have failed! today i manually configured da windows 7 pc to an ip address within da range which network manager ws assigning when 'shared to other computers' ws selected and it worked! Now da question is how do i do it automatically? dhcp3-server never starts, it always fails with the error 'not configured to listen' or sumthng like it! Plus i want the wireless of my laptop to make an ad hoc connection to my mobile fone, which is also no possible...i think its some problem with da dhcp server.
I'm trying to share the internet connection of my Windows XP Virtual Machine (virtualbox) to Ubuntu. I know it sounds weird, but what happens is that i'm using a 3G modem to connect to the internet and 3G connections are still very unstable with ubuntu's network manager. Fortunately, the modem works a lot better with my Virtual Machine. I have already set up a "host only" network between my Windows XP guest and my Ubuntu host and i can they can ping each other but i still can't share the connection of my virtual machine. I already selected "share this connection" on win xp but i think i still have to configure something on ubuntu for it to work. The interface Ubuntu uses is vboxnet0 (not eth0).
This is the last thing to do before i can get rid of my Windows XP partition
configuring Internet Connection Sharing from my Ubuntu 10.10 machine to a Windows XP machine. I've seen How To's but they didn't work, yet.
The Ubuntu machine connects to the Internet through a DSL USB modem that required packages not provided with the distribution, and specific instructions to configure it; so getting Internet working alone was difficult. As a result, I don't even use Network Manager, rather connect using the command pppoe-start. The machine is connected to the Windows PC through a simple cable, through the Ethernet card.
Some tutorials I've seen on ICS are for machines with two Ethernet cards, or for wireless connections; but I've seen none for a USB modem. However I once found one, years ago, and it worked, but I couldn't find it now. It was using iptables, and I didn't really understand what I was doing, but it worked. But then I had to format the disk, and now I can't find a way to get it working again.
I bought a new Laptop 2 week ago. It works well, but internet connection ist very slow. I use cable internet speed 25Mbit/s, normal with my old Laptop (Window xp) I can DL with speeds ca.1 Mbit/s but with this new ca. 15 kbit/s (same file). too much different!!! If anyone know, how to troubleshoot this problem, please tell me. And i get a advice that i should crate a new connection using the "workgroup" model instead. I've tried to do but failed. Who knows "how to" please explain it for me.
I'd like to connect to my Ubuntu via my Android Nexus S phone, and ideally using something works similar on Windows 7 as well. I realize that this topic must of been covered a hundred times before, but given I'm not confident even in the basic theory please stay with me;I need to connect via SSL (installing something like open SSL server on the desk top machines) and a suitable app on the phone (like Connectbot for example)And then a VNC client on the phone as well as my Ubuntu and window 7 machines (?)
Can anyone recommend GUI interfaces, good practice tutorials, that they've found helpful. I'm starting on the OpenSSL docs, but an overview just to make sure that I'm looking along the right lines would be cool.
After I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 in dual boot, I miss my Internet connection in Windows XP. I've reinstalled windows XP, but without success in this problem.
