May 27, 2010Sbopkg 0.32.0 doesn't find slackbuilds 13.1 repository even though I have modified the sbopkg.conf. Is there going to be an updated sbopkg in the near future?

Slackware :: Any Kind Of Package Manager / Slap-get / Sbopkg For Slackware ARM?
Feb 13, 2011I am very happy to announce that today I succeeded to install full Slackware ARM on the pandaboard: URL...I did the following:
* sd with 2 partitions, one (vfat) for bootloaders (MLO, u-boot.bin) and uImage and the other one (ext2) for minirootfs
* copy xloader (MLO), uboot and uImage from Angstrom distro on the first partition
* copy Slackware ARM minirootfs on the second partition with Angstrom modules in the usual path (/lib/modules/...)
* boot in ARMedslack
* install all the others packages via NFS
I had to make some changes to configuration files as indicated here:URL...The next step is to build a kernel and modules for omap4 by myself and use them instead of the Angstrom ones.One question: is there any kind of package manager, such as slap-get, sbopkg, etc. for Slackware ARM? If not, can I use the SlackBuilds from slackbuilds.org? How to modify them?

Slackware :: SBopkg Queues Git Download?
Jun 4, 2011Anyone know of the simple (!) command syntax to : a) download the full SQF tree from [URl].. b) maintain that tree WITHOUT having to download the whole dang thing again.
I'm 100% certain this is possible - that's exactly what source-code repository tools like subversion and git are supposed to do. But Git is complex and that site doesn't seem to have an obvious (to me) method of doing part b)
Slackware :: Dzen2 Won't Download With Sbopkg
Mar 29, 2010I was very happy to see that dzen2 is now available on SlackBuilds.org because now I can use XMonad to its fullest. Unfortunately, sbopkg is not able to download the source code for dzen2. This is probably because the source is hosted on Google Code, which requires the user to click a second download link for some reason. I downloaded the source and the SlackBuild manually and installed dzen2 that way, and that worked perfectly, but I would really prefer to have sbopkg manage updates for me. Is there any way I could get this working? Perhaps I could just download the source manually, place it in the appropriate directory, and let sbopkg build it and manage updates, but I don't know which directory the source would go in or if this would even work.

I want to know if it is possible to rebuild the complete repository with optimizations for newer architectures, so that the programs can make use of the features of newer processors, like MMX, SSE and so on.

I have cloned a repo from git ..Yesterday I tried to install Libre office using sbopkg..It began with the download and gave an error asking me to retry/abort or continue with the build due to some missing package..I presently have a folder "queues" in /var/lib/sbopkg..I also downloaded another repo and placed it another folder. The problem is that in SBOpkg it is picking up only from the queue folder in /var/lib/SBOpkg/Queues. I dont know how to point to the other folder in /home/downloads/queues/ (the second repo)..I thought of trying this as neither slackbuild or the first repo is working for installing libre office..The internet connectivity is ok!

I tried three times, by removing /var/cache/sbopkg/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz then start sbopkg again.
EDIT: I went to slackbuilds.org, downloaded flashplayer from there, and checked the md5sum. Still the same of course.

Jul 18, 2011I am really enjoying recently slackware. Using slackpkg and sbopkg it is so easy to keep slackware running current. Sometimes I feel like a master of Linux, which is absolutely no true. Apart of some objectives I have regarding slackware's philosophy, I have this question please. I have about 8 packages installed via sbopkg. my question.
1)Is there a way to keep these packages updated via a program? (If not I guess I am obliged to check manually for each of them.) 2) Also, sometimes when we build a package via sbopkg it is necessary to build other packages. Is there an option to install via sbopkg and the package and its dependencies required through just one command?

Slackware :: SBOPKG Errors Viewing Obsolete Source Cache
Apr 10, 2010I'm doing a bit of housekeeping and tidying up of programs I no longer need/use, and as some of these were installed using sbopkg I thought I would also tidy those. However when attempting to view obsolete sources via the utilities sub-menu, sbopkg seems to crash to a cli interface from the ncurses one and spews continuously the error below. This thern continues until I CTRL+C the process which of course then leaves the sbopkg pid file still showing active in /var/run. Anyone else come across this, and a possible way to prevent it.

Jan 31, 2010I have started to write a SlackBuilds installer, similar in spirit to slackpkg. So far it is only about 100 lines of code and it can search for a package and install it automatically from slackbuilds.org. I doubt it will ever be as polished as slackpkg but it may be useful for some people. Maybe something like this already exists? If it does then I would like to check it out. If however this doesn't exist then I will most likely continue to develop my program. So far it is quite crude but it does install and search for packages.

All the dependencies install and compile correctly but during the compile of monodevelop it keeps bombing out.

Slackware :: Why Don't We Have A Ports-like SlackBuilds Tree?
Jan 9, 2010I think I've finally settled on Slackware, but I kept missing Arch or FreeBSD for some reason. Last night I realized it's the abs/ports systems they have. I love the freedom to rebuild any package from source so I can configure build options and not worry about how packages from third party sites were compiled (missing features, patent restrictions, etc.).
SlackBuilds.org is awesome, and according to that site Pat uses SlackBuilds to build the official packages. Wouldn't it be great if there was a /var/slackbuilds/ directory with subdirectories for each software set for the officially supported software and then a subdirectory for each category on SlackBuilds.org?I would really like to see this in Slackware some time. It would help organize all the available software in the official sets and SlackBuilds.org and make it easy to compile anything. Other software would, as usual, be downloaded from third-party sources and simply installed that way.

Oct 1, 2010Since there was a lot of talk about virtualization I thought I try kvm -- before I used VirtualBox. I took the SlackBuild from SlackBuilds.org and got an error with u8 as type in /usr/include/scsi/scsi.h. (sorry, I don't have the exact error message anymore..) I searched for its definition and I only found __u8 in /usr/include/linux/types.h. Then I searched the web and found a "fix" which says I have to change u8 from /usr/include/scsi/scsi.h to __u8. This problem was solved, but when I run the SlackBuild now it stops at some point and I don't know why. These are the last few lines of output:

Slackware :: Create SlackBuilds And Build Them Manually?
Apr 11, 2011I'm using Slackware 13.1. There are some software I need that not presented in repos (e.g GIS software and utilities), so I create SlackBuilds and build them manually.
When compiling some libraries I get problems with libdl - the dynamic linker library. As I understand, this library absolutely required by some other libs.
For some odd reason, it seems that this library is automatically supported on other distros (e.g. Debian), but not on Slackware. As result ./configure script can't find necessary libs and fails with messages like

Mar 9, 2011I plan to install SlackBuild: virtualbox-ose (3.2.10) on my stand alone laptop.The following are excerpts from the SlackBuild Readme file and I was hoping that someone might have the time to clarify a few things:
"By default VirtualBox will be compiled with hardening enabled. That means all binaries will be run suid root, which is the default behaviour of upstream packages. However, you are still able to disable this by passing HARDENING=no to the script."Why would I want to do this? If I did want to do this, how do I pass 'HARDENING=no' to the script? What script?
Edit: I found something on this and see that I'll just include my user in the proper group and I should be ok.'To compile virtualbox without the Qt4 GUI pass QT4=no to the script'I have a package called: qt-4.6.2_2d3d3e5-i486-1 installed - does this mean that I have Qt4 installed?'To enable the webservice pass WEBSERVICE=yes to the script.
