I see on the website URl...screenshots number 5 and 6 -- what is used to to get these style of scrollbars? When I launch Opera I get a very ugly scrollbar that does not fit the look of the wm whatsoever.

I've tried KDE, XFCE & fluxbox (this latter of which I think I prefer). They all work but they all have similar streaks & distortions on the GUI. Is this certainly a driver issue?

The error only occurs at startup, and happens less often than not. It has been happening for a very long time, under two different machines and several kernels for the past 2 years to be exact.I'm currently running 64-bit Ubuntu with linux-image-2.6.35-28-generic.Let me know if you need any more details about my setup or anything else.
I'm trying to forward the X session to my Windows laptop (using Xming and putty), and I have no problem opening new programs such as gedit and having them forward, but how would I forward something such as a Firefox window which is already open and running? I don't want to shut it down and restart it. Is there any way of forwarding something that's already running? And if so, can I "unforward" the X session without closing the program down?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post and I am new on Mac OSX. I have create an app using python/py2app.
App is working fine but I need little modification.
1. My app name is test.app. Inside I have Contents/MacOS/test(executable)
2. I rename test(executable) as launch.
3. I create a simple bash script with name test(set executable permission) in Contents/MacOS directory inside app.
4. This script set same environment vars and finally execute launch executable.
5. This works but problem is that a terminal window comes up when launching app.
Is it possible to run the script(test) in such a way that it should not show terminal window?
I'm curious, I believe that one of the ways that OSX make the GUI experience of *nix more 'snappy' was to ditch X and run the window manager more directly on the hardware.
If I'm looking to run Linux on a desktop, and have no interest in sending Windows to other machines on the network, can I run KDE or Gnome with no 'X' to eliminate that ever-so-slight lag with the window manager experience.
I guess basically what I'm asking is is there an equivalent of quartz for Linux?

i have an array var=(node1,node2,node3,node4) and i want to shuffle the array elements randomly every time when unix script will run like that.....
first time when script run order will be shuffle randomly

second time when script run order will be shuffle randomly like

third time when script will run again order will be shuffle randomly like

I don't know if you've been as shocked as i was when using 11.04, but i found the new "overlay scrollbars" completely useless.
what is the logic in hovering in one place to make an invisible scrollbar appear on the right-hand side of the mouse pointer and then move to that scrollbar and use it (if you're lucky enough the scrollbar doesn't disappear as you move towards it)? I've been struggling with that thing for 10 minutes and then i had enough already.
By all means, innovation is great, it's cool to think of new ways to use computers etc. But please don't make default on a distro something as dodgy as this. When i see these scrollbars i have a hard time believing it was widely tested: has there been a poll at all to get user feedback? New things should not be implemented for the sake of being new or different. In my opinion, if something doesn't really improve the OS or desktop environment, then it's not worth making it default.
Is it possible to get the gnome style scrollbars on the classic desktop on 11.04? The new disappearing slider is bugging me. In particular I like clicking on the scrollbar below the slider to advance.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would have thought the arrows at the edges of the new scrollbar move up/down by line and the grey pads of space between the separator would move by pg/up or down. All seems correct with the exception of the arrows to move up/down.I look around through code, manuals and pdfs and such often and used to the use arrow pointers at the top and bottom of the old scrollbar style to move down or up by line all with the mouse....now with the new scroll bar I find myself struggling all the time for this type of simple operation as it seems the arrows in the overlay scrollbar perform a pgDown/pgUp operation not a move down/up line....anyone know how?
PS - If anyone is curious on how to best to test this on your own, a simple test I did was to create a text file of line numbers with the following command:

No matter how many times I update or install new flash plugins in firefox, I always wind up with 2 versions of the 'Shockwave Flash' plugin. The first is the prevous version of Adobe, the second is the current version of either Adobe, Gnash or Swfdec. I use yum to keep my packages in synch. When a new version of Adobe comes though, it erases the older version of the currently installed plugin, keeps the newer currently installed version, and installs itself as the new version, both versions enabled.
Hope that paragraph makes sense to you, it gave me a headache to write. Further, they must both be enabled for any of them to work, and which ever I use the video is slow, choppy and prone to pausing for no apparent reason. The CPU usage is always pegged to the roof and the sound is often out of synch.
What I'm wondering is whether or not this is the normal situation or if I'm doing something wrong? I've been playing with Ubuntu and have noticed that only one version installs at one time, and the video playback is much better, if still not exactly smooth.

I need to modify fs/open.c and fs/read_write.c to make my modifications. I cannot find any options in 'make menuconfig' to make these files modules rather than compiled elements. I'm thinking these cannot be modules because the file system won't work without open.c and read_write.c. Is this correct - I cannot compile fs/open.c and fs/read_write.c as modules, only as compiled elements? Or, is there some way for a module to overwrite these routines when the module is installed and re-enable the routines when the module is removed?

Then I tried running it. The window flashed up for a second, then disappeared. It does this every time I try to run it, even after a cold boot. View 14 Replies View RelatedI like to start Emacs as part of a login script and leave it running for the duration of my login session (which is typically weeks).
I have scripts to call emacs-client which will allow me to use a file-manager or Windows Explorer to locate files and right-click to edit them in Emacs.
I often end up with a lot of emacs windows (frames) open and I like to just be able to close them by clicking on the MS-Windows or KDE X button at the top-right.
The trouble is, if the window is the last one, this will shut down emacs which will lose all kinds of interesting history information.
As a work-around I use C-x 5 0 which won't let me close the last frame but this is often not as convenient as using the mouse
Does anyone know how to configure Emacs so that it can intercept the Window-Close button of the last frame to either request confirmation or simply disallow it?
On MS-Windows, disallowing closing of the last window may cause logoff to hang if emacs is still running but I'm not too worried about that.

I want to prevent users changing the wallpaper, as i couldn't found any direct method I thought of preventing the /usr/bin/gnome-appearance-properties being running,
I know that the user also can set the wallpaper without running that . But didn't found any other way .
I tried to use SELinux to it and I'm stuck at writing a own policy.
According to SELinux, it prevents everything ., but as i have mapped the user to a SElinux user ,even though he can use administrative tasks , he can run the appearance window. that means he has got the permission from a different policy , Currently I'm stuck at this place.
